Back to the thread. A&E caved. Now what does Jesse do?
This is not over. Jesse Jackson, having read Current Events, heads to Florida to warn black men to watch out for some white guy with a gun who will shoot them the moment they step in his direction.

It's crazy because 18 month-2 1/2 year olds loved teletubbies... Mine, but others as well... It spoke to them? ... I could never figure out how the guy who created it realized it would? But they were fascinated..

"Thank you Jesse Jackson for delivering the ultimatum that shook ...........nobody! " Does anyone actually know about this ultimatium besides you and Jesse? Perhaps you could share a link with this ultimatium with the board? I really didn't care what various people said about it including Palin as the issue was always between A&E, Phil, and the various sponsors of the show, plus disgruntled audience members that made their views known. I think Sarah Palin and her daughter made the home page of MSN due to their comments on this situation but I never saw anything about Jesse Jackson or any other public personality on that same home page. But given the NAACP did publicly comment I suppose its not surprising he wanted his soundbite in the sun just like the Palins.

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other. He has a right to his opinion and a right to say what he thinks/feels. Others have a right to disagree. A and E just wanted to Cover their Butts.

Wrong. "Gallup finds 64% of Americans saying gay or lesbian relations between consenting adults should be legal, the highest since it first asked the question more than 30 years ago." GallupI can find something sinful in accordance with my religious believes and still support the idea that it is not up the my government to make decisions about it. I agree with this srtatment 100%...which is why I believe that states should not have laws making same sex marraiges illegal.

I think marriage shouldn't be a govt regulated matter.

I think marriage shouldn't be a govt regulated matter. So there should be no restrictions? Siblings should be allowed to marry? People should have as many spouses as they want?

Yes, because these laws are necessary for dozens of legal reasons, especially inheritance and spousal rights reasons. Without them, children's and spousal rights would be eliminated, resulting in chaos, inquities, and legal anarchy.

You seriously want to marry your brother? If you do, who cares? It doesn't affect my life. Men have multiple partners and call them "wives." Does it concern me? Nope.

Why? Because you think they'll breed children with "issues?" We have them already.

I support the right for all competent adults to determine what marriage will look like for them. I do believe that there is a compelling state interest in requiring those who wish to register a multiple person relationship with the state (i.e. purchase a marriage license) to have a prenuptial agreement on how asset and child custody issues would be resolved in case of dissolution of part or all of the relationship. I don't think that we through our government should have to either work out all the possible permutations that might be necessary or take the court time to figure it out after the fact.

Maybe not, but it sure as hell concerns their children. Not a concern that's not solvable. True. All those issues can be solved by law. In fact, they have ALREADY been solved by law. Marraige and divorce law. Why in the world would anyone toss out law that has been refined over thousands of years only to replace it with all new laws? Allowing gay marraige does not significantly change law, other than to broaden the umbrella of legal protection, just like the abolishment of interracial marraige laws did. BTW, California did not stop banning interacial marriage until 1948. The world did not end.

Considering the context was marrying a sibling, I guessed your concern was that of inbreeding. But if it's just legal issues you're worried about, then there is no concern with sibling marriages or marriages between parents and their children. We just apply existing law.

I have absolutely no clue as to what you are talking about. I have never posted a word about sibling marraige, or any other incest related issue.

If it is necessary for me to spell it out for you, I was saying that if a man claims to have several wives, then which child of which wife inherits the house and farm? Somehow, you have gotten me mixed up with Miss tequila, reply 526.

Why should states have no laws regarding same sex marriage, but should have laws against other marriages between consenting adults?

Surely you are not so obtuse that you do not know the consequences and cost to society of interbreeding within a family. One only needs to study the decendents of Queen Victoria's children and grandchildren to find hemophilia, birth defects and geneticly inherited disease that was directly resulting from interbreeding within the royal families of Europe.

Since the government decided to give special privileges and benefits to A spouse, then you get to pick ONE. Choose wisely.
