Ha! I knew someone would have to go after him for racism. I was worried there for a minute How ìs the paragraph racist? I'm confused....they start the letter about his recent "racist, homophobic comments". I had just gone done saying to some people offline that I was surprised that it was the "gay is a sin" that caused the uproar and not his comments on the happy blacks. While I don't think he was trying to be racist, I definitely thought those comments would cause an uproar

Do they make fluffy buttermilk pancakes? The people I know that rave about it talk a out biscuits and gravy. That's sounds absolutely disgusting to me! I hate eggs but I do love good buttermilk pancakes You can get pancakes among other things for breakfast. Do you have Perkins restaurants where you are? The are good for breakfast all day too. Pancakes too. Yep. Perkins is my to to place...though I do love the blueberry creeps from Bob Evans. I think having someone recommend biscuits and gravy is what turned me off from Cracker Barrel. Clearly I have no issues wih chain restaurants!

Hopefully no Smurfs saw your disparaging comment about blue "creeps" or you would be receiving thousands of letters at home.

Stupid show, with a bunch of dirty looking hillbillies that the wives they are married to wouldn't even give a second look at if they didn't have money.
I've watched it a few times, kind of a glorified Beverly hillbillies. A dumbed down show. Except for the fact that those women married one of them before they were rich. Korie and Willie have been married for 21 years - which predates by quite a bit him striking it rich. Phil and Kay have been married for like 100 years. An interview in Game & Fish magazine states that ALL of the wives met and wed their husbands while they were poor. Jase told Game & Fish magazine that the question the bearded Robertson men get asked most by viewers is how they managed to snag such beautiful wives. "You hear people say 'Oh these women married these guys for their money,' because we're successful now, but what they don't realize is that when they met us, we didn't have any money. We were all poor, and we've all been married for lots of years," Jase explained. "I always think that's comical. We really came from humble beginnings. It's just been the American dream lived out, we do what we love to do, and it just worked out. But you know our wives are with us because of our spiritual qualities, which flies in the face of what most people think."
But hey. Don't let facts get in the way of your prejudices and stereotypes. I would remind you that using the word "hillbilly" in a derogatory manner is just as offensive to those people who have family who came from Appalachia as the word "retard" is to those who may have family members with special needs.

... I'm still waiting for someone to explain GLAAD's response to me... ... Their response was a hypocritical attempt to silence anything that is not 100% supportive of anything and everything LGBT. Is that the answer you want? If that is your honest opinion, then sure. I was more looking for someone to tell me wtf they are talking about, frankly, I don't see it.

It's not just the articles, here is what GLAAD said in their statement: "Phil's decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families." GLAAD reached out to A&E to speak about if the network stands behind Robertson's comments." linkWhich they have a right to do, and which A&E has a right to answer, or choose not to answer. Understood. My post was to confirm what MT had read in articles about GLAAD's demands to A&E.

I am curious though, how many times did you have to watch the show before you noticed it was dumbed down, or did you keep watch despite your determination that it was dumbed down?

My last bf kept saying he was going to grow a beard like them, I told him he better be a light sleeper so he doesn't sleep through me cutting the ugly thing off his face cuz those beards are so not hot. He kept the beard nice and trimmed while I was dating him. I'm half expecting him to have the beard next time I see him though.

No, it would be more like referring to a homeosexual as a queer.

My grandpa was full blooded irish, mean guy. They came up out of the hills to work the coalmines in Indiana. They said grandpa and some guy got into it and they thought he had killed him. They took grandpa down to the hills, family did, and hid him out till they determined the guy was going to make it. They were a clannish bunch. Now tell me about hill folk. So based on one experience you are going to label all people from there?

Hell, my family was all hillbillies on dads side. They came from the Kentucky Hills. My old aunt used snuff and they lived different then other folks. That PC crap is getting old. You can't even call something what it is anymore, jeez. Doesn't bother me a bit, I'm not to far from it either.
I only watched it a couple of times where they were out blowing stuff up with dynamite and messing with an alligator, enough for me. Lol! I'm as far as one can get from PC...liberals are normally all about being PC, though ;-)

The video was made in 2010 and the interview was based on that video (of a speech he made at a wild game supper in the Berean Baptist church in Pennsylvania). Since the contents of the video (which was uncovered by GQ) were the subject of the interview, the video becomes very relevant, IMO. It's quite long and I don't have time to finish it now, but I'll watch it all before I comment further. I want to know what the man actually said, not what someone else says he said. I don't disagree hat it is relevant. My point was this shows that Phil Robertson has long had these very public views yet A&E chose to hire him. They only had an issue when the gay community got up in arms. this is central to the point, but not in the way you think. A&E has the right to hire him or fire him for any reasons, unless his contract specifies otherwise. in other words, this is not an issue of free speech at all. if i hire a band to play for a new year's eve party, or a bar mitzvah, and they come and shout Nazi slogans for two hours, they are not going to get paid, and i am never going to hire them again. sorry, but that is just how it goes. while you are on my clock, your time is mine. you have no free speech rights other than the ones i give you. if you want free speech rights, then start your own business, and say whatever you like.

Now because a gay group gets their little feelings be t out if shape, they suspend him.

Do they even have employment contracts in the south? Very true though- this has nothing to do with free speech at all, or freedom of religion either. No worries though- the top media whore has their back, even though she is so busy fighting the war against Xmas: www.opednews.com/articles/Sarah-Palin-s-Impressively-by-Matt-Taibbi-Duck-Dynasty_Sarah-Palin_Sarah-Palin-And-Her-IQ-131221-236.html Sarah Palin, ably staying in character in her new role as a professional media ambulance-chaser, was one of the first to rush to Robertson's defense. She posted a photo of herself with the Robertsons and tweeted the following: "Free speech is endangered species; those 'intolerants' hatin' & taking on Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing personal opinion take on us all." Conservatives have always had trouble grasping the difference between public censorship and private enterprise. With a few exceptions, like whistleblower laws and National Labor Relations Board protections against being fired for off-site discussions about work conditions (exceptions that, in almost every case, conservatives bitterly opposed), there is no legal or constitutional right to free speech on private property. You can be fired for calling your boss a dick, and you can just as easily be let go by a profit-seeking media company for imperiling its relationship with advertisers. And incidentally, this is the way true conservatives, and especially true hardcore speech advocates, have always wanted it. Could you imagine the uproar if someone passed a law saying that Martin Bashir couldn't be bounced from a broadcast job for saying Sarah Palin was a good candidate to have feces shoved in her mouth? Now that would be censorship Well put

Maybe I'm wrong about the demographics but i just don't see GLAAD members in the target audience of the commercials run during duck dynasty.

Never watched the show. I know for a fact, people believe what they wish to believe or not and make it known to others. Not a crime, right? The response to what is truth for one will not be truth for all. In other words. We may as well agree to disagreeing. We are never going to catch the tail that'll cause everyone to be in total agreement about most anything, no matter how many rounds we go. Especially when it come to Jesus! Great discussion though.
