Where didninsay anything about free speech? My point was A&E had no issues hiring him or keeping him employed,'all while similar videos were in the Internet. Now because a gay group gets their little feelings be t out if shape, they suspend him. probably hoped that their audience would never find out. sucks to be them. Their audience is full of rednecks...do you know any rednecks? My BIl is a redneck. In an assure you that he and his hunting buddies would not care that Phil Robertson thinks bein gay is a sin.

But if hat band was known for their nazi rants, you hired them anyway and all the while they were posting videos on the Internet with he same nazi rants and then one day some Eskimo causes a stink (trying to think of an unrelated party!l) and then you can the band, then you would be comparing apples to apples i guess so- unless my contract specifically barred them from nazi rants. do we know anything about THAT aspect of their relationship? No I do not

DDD'ey even have employment contracts in the south? Very true though- this has nothing to do with free speech at all, or freedom of religion either. No worries though- the top media whore has their back, even though she is so busy fighting the war against Xmas: www.opednews.com/articles/Sarah-Palin-s-Impressively-by-Matt-Taibbi-Duck-Dynasty_Sarah-Palin_Sarah-Palin-And-Her-IQ-131221-236.html Sarah Palin, ably staying in character in her new role as a professional media ambulance-chaser, was one of the first to rush to Robertson's defense. She posted a photo of herself with the Robertsons and tweeted the following: "Free speech is endangered species; those 'intolerants' hatin' & taking on Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing personal opinion take on us all." Conservatives have always had trouble grasping the difference between public censorship and private enterprise. With a few exceptions, like whistleblower laws and National Labor Relations Board protections against being fired for off-site discussions about work conditions (exceptions that, in almost every case, conservatives bitterly opposed), there is no legal or constitutional right to free speech on private property. You can be fired for calling your boss a dick, and you can just as easily be let go by a profit-seeking media company for imperiling its relationship with advertisers. And incidentally, this is the way true conservatives, and especially true hardcore speech advocates, have always wanted it. Could you imagine the uproar if someone passed a law saying that Martin Bashir couldn't be bounced from a broadcast job for saying Sarah Palin was a good candidate to have feces shoved in her mouth? Now that would be censorship Well put I agree with be advertisers. That doesn't appear to be why A&E suspended him, though. From everything I have read, they bowed to pressure from GLAAD. Maybe I'm wrong about the demographics but i just don't see GLAAD members in the target audience of the commercials run during duck dynasty. What type of commercials are aimed at DD viewers? For what ìt ìs worth, here ìs a list of DD's primary advertisers. They pretty much are used by everyone in theccountry. Support Duck Dynasty! A&E Sponsors Boycott List/Contact Info

Stupid show, with a bunch of dirty looking hillbillies that the wives they are married to wouldn't even give a second look at if they didn't have money.I've watched it a few times, kind of a glorified Beverly hillbillies. A dumbed down show. Wow - talk about looking down your nose at people - mostly based on appearance. They look like ZZ Top in Camo. Ever see a picture of the unshaven Brad Pitt? He doesn't look much different.
Would you be so quick to judge him too based on appearance?
The Duck Dynasty family has built a multi-million $$ industry from their humble beginnings with their duck call and other hunting merchandise industry - and more power to them - considering where they started from. That's what draws the public interest.
How do you assume the women only married them for their money? Most got married BEFORE they hit the "big time".
And they are the #1 show for viewing audience on A&E. Most of their (A&E's) other programming is garbage. (Remember the "good old days") when they used to air re-runs of "Murder She Wrote" or "McMillan & Wife", etc? Those days are history.
Without "Duck Dynasty", that network might as well die & fade away.

So if they aren't gay I don't see them giving a shit if someone hints homosexuality is a sin...certainly not enough to not buy their sacred duck calls or to not watch a show that they enjoy. I just don't see progressive making up a large portion of duck dynasty's audience. I could be way off base and I have nothing to support that conclusion.

I'm surprised Cabela's hasn't stepped up to be a sponsor. They're a huge sporting goods/hunting store across North America.

He totally looks at least 10 years older (than his real age, looks younger than real age w/o beard) and totally not hot. I kinda want to see those photos MT was talking about earlier that she saw of the DD boys where they looked hot. Brad Pitt totally cinched my opinion that even hot guys look ugly in those crappy bears.

First visited their store in Montana & Idado/Washington when DH used to travel there (we were avid anglers) - it's a huge sporting goods outlet - equal to - if not bigger than BassPro. They've been in business forever across the US & Canada:www.cabelas.com/stores/stores_home.jsp

Also only one in LA and only one other in the "deep south" so I'm not surprised they aren't a sponsor. Most of their stores are prob out of the DD target region.

Yeah, maybe! Was just going on the planned stuff from the link you posted. It looks like they are planning to move more into the south, but just aren't currently there.

They (Cabela's) are situated in Gonzelez, LA, now - I expect the chain will spread state-wide.

A&E existed before DD. They will exist after DD. Actually, no, they didn't. Duck Commander predates A&E. And they'll be around long after A&E is gone.

Phil didn't say anything that 50% of the people in America weren't already thinking. Wrong. "Gallup finds 64% of Americans saying gay or lesbian relations between consenting adults should be legal, the highest since it first asked the question more than 30 years ago." GallupI'm one of them. But I still think it's a sin. Same goes for drugs and a lot of other things. I do not want to live in a theocracy. However, I don't want to live in a country where I'm forced at gun point to serve people in the commission of acts that violate my conscience- like baking a cake or taking the photos at their wedding.

That being gay is a sin and black people weren't mistreated and were happier under Jim Crow.
Just for the record, did Mr. Robertson actually say the words "happier under Jim Crow" anywhere in the GQ interview or are people just plugging the "Jim Crow" thing in because it's a good sound bite? For the record, no. He provided his own observations, and did not make any categorical statements. “I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," He went on to describe the condition of the black people he knew, and worked with doing the same jobs. But he never said, or even implied there was nothing wrong with Jim Crow laws, or that black people were happier under Jim Crow / pre-civil rights era. He did observe that pre-entitlement welfare state he believes black people were happier... "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

A&E existed before Duck Dynasty and whether it survives or not is up to them. Duck Commander existed before the Duck Dynasty show and since its their livlihood I expect its not going anywhere either. I don't watch A&E anymore and have never seen Duck Dynasty. I've just seen all the merchandised products and therefore way too many pics of those guys and those icky beards. Wish they would shave them and we could see how cute they might really be & likely why their wives married them. (The spiritual probably helps, but if they were hot clean shaven it probably started the romance. )

For me this is between A&E and the stars of Duck Dynasty. While I'm not pro Phil's comments as a non-black, non-gay, the comments about happy black people pre Civil Rights bothers me more than the homosexual comment which unfortunately is a biblical belief just like not eating pork or wearing mixed fibers. Some believe all, some believe one or more, and a good many Christians no longer believe or follow any of the three.
Whether you agree or disagree in this age of media and social media people get fired all the time when employers feel their image is tarnished. And many employers determine how tarnished their rep is by the amount of complaining via phone, email, and social media. That's unlikely to change and more likely to be come more common IMO. I think given the Paula Deen media rush recently, flipping and flopping will be more common as various corporations including media channels find that some complain early and if they make a quick decision they will hear very quickly from the other side of their customers. Because its capitalism at the heart of it, most of these firms are going to make decisions based on making most of their paying customer base happy when possible and not alienating customers if they can avoid it. GQ is the one whose most likely to make more money off this whole brouhaha.
