February Goals For February I would like to get at least 10,000 steps per day.
At this point I would love to continue losing however for me it will be a victory just to keep off the weight.
I did reach these goals lost .8 during month and did not miss a 10,000 step day. Ended February with 344,570 steps.
When thinking about March Madness goals 1. 400,000 steps for the month 2. Average water intake of 25 ounces 3. Keep weight off and move scale down
As for last week
Epic failure, Outside of getting in my steps did nothing correct. It was a stressful week. Did not drink water. Did not eat correctly.
This week I am going goals
average 12,500 steps per day back to healthier eating drink water

OK, so I didn't make it back to the gym on the first day of the month I have one reasonably decent excuse (gym opens late on the weekend) and one bad excuse (too much wine last night). Still the scale said 131 this morning, down 1.5 from where I started February. Not too bad for only going to the gym once and eating a bunch of junk during grand jury duty. Glad that's over, time to get back in the saddle as I start my new job.

I said in February that I was going to revisit this pedometer thing in March. As much as I want a fitbit, I really can't justify the cost given my other goals (I'm also on WIR Racers to get rid of some debt). I think right now I am going to get the Omron HJ-321 Tri-Axis Pedometer. It's $18 or $19 on amazon. It's small, so I can tuck it somewhere easily, and it doesn't have that annoying clicking to track the steps.
Trying to wrap up February's budget and also total my weight loss. For March Madness I am going to set a goal that combines my fitness with my debt payoff so I can "earn" that purse I so desperately want.

I weighed in at 193 this morning, which I can't really complain about since I haven't been able to be active, I have eaten for crap, and am totally bloated between surgery and medication.
March goals:
1. Be able to walk at normal pace/stride for 60 minutes straight by end of month. 2. Be able to get back to core workout by end of month. 3. Be able to do full squats/lunges by end of month. 4. Be able to spend at least 30 minutes everyday meditating.
I have other goals too- but those are part of them...

Go Marion & MizBear! You are both doing so well!
My goals for March are to get my butt back to the gym at least 4 days a week, preferably more, and get below 130 lbs. I was stuck at 132.5 for almost the whole month of February and have just now made a tiny bit of progress. Ultimate goal is still 125.
I am using my new job as a reason to go cold turkey off my "something sweet to go with my second cup of coffee" habit. I'm actually hoping they don't allow food at one's desk, but I'll find out on Monday.

I am hoping that refocusing my spiritual life will help me with my lifestyle goals- actually I know it will.
Feel free to skip this part if you are not comfy with non-mainstream religions/beliefs (although you all already know I am different )
I have been attracted to the ways of Paganism, Wicca, etc and other nature based and non-Christian religions since childhood- even though I was raised in a traditional Protestant Church. As I get older, I find less satisfaction in Christian churches and more satisfaction in other religions. I also have found that the more I embrace these other traditions, the more settled I become in mind and body.
It sounds hokey to some people, but it is what it is.
So part of my March Madness is to re-center and re-focus my energies.
This will help me with all of my other goals, including distressing, eating better, etc.

Weekly update for me. RecapNew habits that will stick to lose 35 lbs by the end of 2014. I met all of my Week 8 goals which were part of the Finish February Fabulous Challenge. Week 9 Goals- 10 minute cardio 3 times a week.
- Learn the second exercise in my boxing drill inspired workout (medicine ball torso twist) 3 times a week.
- Core work 2 times a week.
A few pages back bsbound mentioned fitness apps. I downloaded a couple on the kindle and there is one I like. It has video for the exercise challenged like me. It has different types (cardio, legs, core, butt, arms, etc) and you can set it for different times (2min, 5min, 10min, etc). That is the cardio workout I'm going to use for this week. Since I finally conquered the 2 minute jump rope, it's time to move on to exercise #2 in the boxing drill workout. I will have to plug away at the torso twist until I can do the full 2 minutes on this one. My FFF Challenge had me doing core work every day. One thing I noticed was the time it took to do it wasn't very much. I should be able to work some core exercises into my week without completely disrupting my schedule. I'm leaving this goal a little bit flexible so I can change up which particular exercises I do each day. Numbers UpdateStart | 1/1/14 | 209.0 | Last | 2/23/14 | 197.0 | Current | 3/2/14 | 195.6 |
Down 1.4 lbs for the week, 5.0 for the month of February, and 13.4 for the year. That puts me at 38% of my yearly goal. I lost more in January that in February. I'm not surprised by that. Just counting calories with very little physical activity gave me a big bang for my buck in January. This just reinforces what I thought. I'm going to have to continue adding more and more exercise in if I want to continue seeing progress. New Habits- Tracking daily calorie intake & regularly meeting calorie goal
- Walking the dogs twice a week
- Eating dinner at the table each night
- Basic yoga stretches twice a week
- Almond milk instead of cow's milk in 99% of everything
Nothing new to add here for the past week. But, I did keep up with the dog walking and yoga on top of my daily FFF Challenge. That was great! Marion's Ramblingsners - I am totally amazed at the amount of steps you are able to get it in. You are really knocking it out of the park! Drinking more water can be difficult. It's really more of a habit type thing. You have to stop drinking other things besides water. And, you have to force yourself to drink so you can get the amount of water in. It takes a bit of work. So don't be too hard on yourself, you'll get there. mizbear - I think your March goals are great. They are specific enough that you know what you're working towards. At the same time, they are not too stringent given your recent surgery. I think they're just right. kilroy - yay for jury duty ending! And I'm excited about you starting your new job! Finding those one or two not so healthy habits, that we all love so much, and trying to change them is hard. Your thinking is on the right track there. Change in environment may make breaking the habit easier. Good luck! sarcastic - glad you're having a great time! And able to get in lots of swimming?!?! You're rocking it! generic - one of the things I've learned (and am still trying to learn) is how to work all of this diet and fitness into my life so that it doesn't completely wreck my schedule and stress me out. Even with my small weekly goals, sometimes it's still hard. bsbound - I've had to eat my feelings away more than once. Sometimes life just gets in the way. You'll shake it off. Hope your days have been better since then too Going to post my February Recap and March Madness goals separately. In the meantime, it's finally March! That means spring is *supposed* to be somewhere around the corner. Let's hope some of this cold lightens up on some of us and we can all rock the month of March!

February RecapLost 5 lbs for the month which was less than the 8.4 from January. I was expecting that. I was trying to add more physical activity in February to compensate and I did relatively well since I still made good progress. Was really feeling the burn out from all sides so bsbound's FFF Challenge was a great change up for me. It was really hard to get all those done daily, but it ended up being fun too. Didn't really focus on diet per se, but I did try to work some protein variety in. Some were fails, but quite a few were good. I've also been posting on the What's For Dinner thread, so I've gotten some good tips and recipes there to keep me from getting bored with my diet. Once I get bored - with anything really - I tend to just give up. I don't like redundancy and boredom at all! My biggest accomplishment for February was conquering the 2 minute jump rope. I've mentioned before how eye opening it was for me to have to work so hard to accomplish something that should have been pretty easy. It was just a reminder to me about why getting fit is both important and necessary. Overall, I'm pretty darn happy with my progress from February. March Madness GoalsLove the March Madness idea (huge thanks to mizbear and sarcastic for coming up with it and thinking of ways for it to work for our group). This is going to be a great way for me to change up for the month. And I'm going to dangle a carrot in front of myself to help with the burn out feeling. I'm coupling my fitness goals with my financial goals. I'm really aggressive on both. There is a chance I won't meet them by 3/31. I've thought about that, and I'm ok with that. Even if I don't meet them by that date, I will be super close. So I will just have to wait a week or two before I can earn my new purse. - Total debt paid off on WIR Racers at $4,000 by 3/31.
- Total weight lost on WIR Get Fit at 24 lbs by 3/31.
- Meeting both of those goals will earn me a new purse that I am currently drooling over!!!
On the finance front - I will have to make all my budgeted payments plus throw all of my tax refund at the debt plus adjust a couple of budget categories down a smidge to make the total. Definitely aggressive. On the fitness front - I don't normally set number goals so this is a bit scary for me. I will have to lose 10.6 lbs in the month of March. That averages out to close to 2.5 lbs a week where my current average is about 1.5 lbs a week. Again, definitely aggressive. In order to meet the fitness goal, I'm really going to have to up the physical activity. I learned a lot in February and it's time to put it to good use. I may even pick some days to adjust my calorie goal down. I'm at 1700 now, so I have some room to adjust to 1600 or 1500 on some days. I just have to make sure it's not on days where I'm heavy on the cardio activity. Needless to say this month is a stark change from my mini goals to create new habits (although my weekly goals will be in support of this overall monthly goal). At the same time, I think the change up will be fun in the long run. Once I meet these goals my plan is to go back to more "moderate" goals for April. I know, for me at least, this kind of aggressiveness is not sustainable in the long run. But once I hit these goals and "earn" my new purse I will go back to what has been working. And hitting these goals and getting that purse will give me a good sense of accomplishment to move forward with. So there it is now. I'm scared and excited all at the same time. I'm going to give it a whack and see what I end up with on 3/31.

Marionth- I too would like to see a loss on the scale this month. I think as TBear is here less, Mom is here less, and I am more mobile, it will happen. I know that can be my advantage living here is that I am somewhat by myself.
ners- How I get myself to drink more water is to keep it available. I have a bunch of non-aluminum, BPA Free bottles and cups that I keep available and filled, as well as my Brita pitcher. Some folks prefer their water flavored, but I try very hard to drink mine plain.

I always have water available. I just do not drink. I am thinking at work to set my self an hourly reminder to sip some water and take a walk.
MarionTH230 - the steps are easy for me. I have wellness program that rewards me. The higher my level the more money I earn for my Health Savings account,

Water intake- I love tea. It totally counts for water intake. I have black teas and green teas and fruity teas. Often I make them iced. So if you like tea... Definitely give that a try. Also, I like to add lemon or lime to my water. I have a 24 oz bottle at work that I fill at least 2-3 times a day. And I am sort of on a schedule at work to fill it... 9 am... 11-12... Then at 2-3pm. If it is time to fill and I haven't finished what I have... I chug it

Soda is my downfall. I've only been drinking diet for years, but it's still not a good habit. I've cut down a lot. I have been mixing some crushed melon or citrus in some soda water. I get all the bubbles like soda, but it's just water with fruit.

I occasionally get la croix drinks... But I can't do much carbonation.
I also love cucumber in my water.
I am strange though... I love water and drink it about 90%,of the time. And I drink a LOT!
Working on my march madness goals...

Hi there. Just popping in to say hi. I'm still here. I haven't been doing any of the challenges. I feel like things are unraveling a little in my world. I'm holding it together, but finances and personal issues are dragging me down. Still trying to get my steps in though and am trying to watch the calories. Lost another pound last week. Back down to 180.0. Took measurements last night and am down a few on my hips and waist. So at least a little progress. I'm sorry I haven't been commenting on everyone's progress and stumbles. I'll be back... Mizbear - I'm so glad that your results came back negative for cancer. to all!!!

I am working on mindfulness and building my endurance back up right at this juncture- plus I am trying to clean out all of the crap in the pantry- Mom buys tons of junk and isn't here to eat it.
Anybody have any ideas what to do with canned peas I have great disdain for them. The best suggestions I have gotten so far are
A) Puree, combine with other things I like and cover flavor or use as soup base- like split pea or lentil.
B) mix into carbonara, alfredo, or mashed potatoes

just checking in quickly before going back to catch up on the last few pages while I've been away. I hopped on the scale yesterday morning, and it was 2.4lbs higher than my final challenge weigh-in before I left for my cruises. I know some of that is water retention, b/c I can feel that my BP is higher now from all the damn salt from the food. that will all come back down in a few days, so I'm thinking that I did okay for the week. all the running around between shows negated my having drank my weight pretty much daily. I wasn't really eating much b/c the food sucked. will check back in later on as well. kudos to those doing well, to those who aren't, and I think I saw a comment about mizbear and no cancer. for that news!!

Ok I'm back! We had a lot going on at home- parents visited, went away on a long weekend trip with friends, some mental stress going on - so I kind of just stepped back and took a mental break. Probably did not eat that well (wine! cookies!) so I am not going to weigh myself until next Friday to give myself some time to lose that weight and not get discouraged.
My goals are: Get back to 20 minute daily workouts (with the Challenges) No candy for Lent No soda for Lent
I'd love to give up all sweets, but I am not sure if I have the willpower for that...

mizbear - peas are an ingredient in arroz con pollo. I can dig up my MIL recipe if you would like. It isn't like you just taste peas, they just put a little color in the dish. One can is all it calls for.
Marion - did you check with your insurance company to see if they have a pedometer they will send you? Some of them have health "challenges" and will send you a pedometer for free to motivate you to walk. For that matter, I think I have 4 or 5 of them from BCBS in my drawer at home. If you feel comfortable, PM me your address and I will send you a couple.
