The couple did nothing wrong.....They chose not to reward someone who is an affront to their beliefs Wrong! If he'd truly been an "affront to their beliefs" they would have left the restaurant without eating and registered their complaint with the management, if they felt it necessary.

While I'd still think they were asshats, if they really were full in their beliefs they would have walked out and not ordered from a waiter they deemed gay. If he's such an affront to their god then why accept his labor for them? Wouldn't his touching their food/whatever "taint" it and make it all an affront to god that they then nourished their bodies with?
Nope, they didn't care enough of their beliefs not to patronize a gay waiter - they just wanted their food and they figured they had an excuse to save money and yell at someone.

Don't you know-every person served by this man catches 'the gay' once they pay for their meal and tip the server.

What they did only shows their ignorance of the true teachings of their religion, namely, the Golden Rule of "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

I have always wondered if this rule applied to sadomasochists. How about "Do unto others as they wish to be done onto"? That removes you from being the standard by which all others should be treated.

mtman - it seems this 'Christian' couple disagrees with you. They know a waiter's real income is based upon customer tips. They tip wait staff-just not gay wait staff. So yes, they stole the services of this waiter.

I have always wondered if this rule applied to sadomasochists. in a consensual situation, i would say yes. if that is as problem for you, you could always add "in like situations" to the Golden Rule. edit: the more empathetic definition posited by Bills works, too.

So if I enjoy having women at the grocery store berate me and slap me when I squeeze a bad melon, I could reciprocate and God would approve?

The couple did nothing wrong.....They chose not to reward someone who is an affront to their beliefs Then, if that is a requirement to serve you the meal, then you can find that out in advance. If you dont' like it, get up and leave and eat elsewhere. You don't stiff someone for their work and service.
