The only stockpiling I did this week was 14 oz. bottles of organic Heinz ketchup for $.57/ea. I bought (5).
Other than that, I just bought the normal weekly stuff - bread, fruits and veggies, etc.

This week's finds:
3 6 oz. packages blackberries .99 cents at the 99 cent only store ( These are $4.99 at other places) I froze them for a cobbler to make later
Krazy Glue .99 cents and used it to fix a $100.00 pair of Nike walking shoes so I won't have to buy new walkers

We stopped at Sams Club yesterday. For the premium members they had organic chicken breasts on a $3 off the package special, but the chicken was $3.99 lb. Another section had regular breasts for $1.88/lb. I bought the less expensive. There were 8 in the package. Total cost per breast was $1.29 ea.
I still need to get some tomato basil soup on hand. Since the weather forecast is for an ice storm this weekend, I think I'll make a stop at Walmart today.

DH and I have not been to the grocery store for anything other than fruit/veggies/milk since ... Feb 2nd! We have been living off of the stockpile while the sales have only been so/so. Also, my grandfather has been very ill so after work we are generally up to the hospital or his home, depending on his current location, and we are exhausted. Add to all of this that we found out that I'm pregnant, and I'm suffering with constant nausea, that trips to the grocery store are not high on my list of priorities. I did go yesterday to get some more fruit and some crackers and ginger ale -- it was a challenge to keep my stomach under control! I'm hoping the next few weeks fly by quickly and then I'll have some relief.

To me, stockpiling meant not having to rush to the store Friday or Saturday to prepare for the winter storm that's impacting us today.

You can buy ginger tea bags, or use a nickel sized slice of fresh ginger or a large pinch of ginger spice in a cup of tea. The MARIE crackers are very good to nibble on too. They might be in the ethnic or Hispanic area of your grocery store. They are sometimes sold near the cookies. They are round and usually sold with paper around them in a cylinder shape (not a box). If you can't get them, graham crackers are good too. Congratulations.

Last week I was able to visit (2) different Grocery Outlets. One of them had Big Cup of Noodles for $.25/ea. I picked up several for DS to grab for lunch if he's running late getting ready for work.
The other Grocery Outlet had 14 oz. Kellogg's Mini Wheats for $.97. I got an additional 5% discount. Plain Cheerios are my fav, but for that price, ya, mini wheats will be just fine. I stockpiled (10) boxes.
It seems like I'm finding one or two items to stockpile per week these days at the Grocery Outlet. I am getting to the point where I need to carry a DON'T BUY list as there are soooo many items that I am now well stocked on. Last week they had bacon AGAIN for $1.97/lb. Geez, I was tempted to grab just a couple, but I resisted.

Stockpiling to me is being able to provide food for our annual Lenten Season food drive at church, knowing that I'll be able to restock my own pantry within a month or so with sales and coupons.

It's on the way home, and I need to stop in anyway so, score! Other cherry picking deals last night: Buy 2 get one free Cadbury choc creme eggs for DH Kraft mayo on sale for $3.99, bought with a .75 coupon which they double up to $1 Free Muller Greek yogurt Free Protein bar

This week I saw the Jimmy Dean sausage links again at my Grocery Outlet. They were priced @ $1.99 for a package of 12 links. If they don't sell out and are within a couple of days of the "use or freeze by" date, they will be reduced to $.97/pkg. and I'll buy all they have and stick them in the freezer. I thought I didn't like breakfast sausage until I tasted these. I don't think I could stomach going back to Farmer John.
Crossing my fingers that I can stockpile 5-10 packages, or hopefully more, next week.

Thank you for the congratulations. I have been so exhausted and so ill that I haven't clipped a coupon since the beginning of February and have only been to the store for quick trips! Dr says this is all a good sign ... I understand why but it's like someone telling you rain on your wedding day is good luck.
Feeling somewhat better this week and trying to get caught up on computer stuff. I'll check in occasionally and see what's going on for everyone else!

I need to concentrate a little more on using up some of what I've already bought. I was irritated yesterday with DH about the bread, but I just tossed 4 Cuties into the trash. How long they had been in the fridge I don't know, but edible they were not.

I,too, am trying to use up some of my older stash and working my way through the freezer. I need to work on labeling the stuff I put in the freezer. I have eaten some truly odd combinations this past month due to no labels But the freezer will be empty and ready for more good stuff this summer.

For frozen things, most of what I stockpile is meat. We buy from a friend of mine that raises Angus. We use all of the fresh vegetable and fruit on store as I usually only buy what I know we'll eat and that will stay fresh long enough. Got some potatoes and onions for free recently so good to go there and they'll keep for awhile. I try to use up everything. Have been known to create some crazy combinations of leftovers. Even though we live in the middle of farmland, I do buy a lot of our stuff from the Rochester Public Market during the summer/fall months. I often see a few of our local farmers selling their stuff cheaper than at their local farm stands. Sometimes our farmer neighbors let me glean vegetables from the fields after the harvest. Usually lots of good stuff left(squash, pickling cucumbers, peppers).

DH bought some freezer tape, and I label and date leftovers using a fat Sharpie pen. It really helps.

I am still stunned at the really big differences in mark ups in pricing in this town. In less than 3 miles, from Food Co to Vons, it's at least 250%. The same flipping bag of brown rice is $1.09 at Foods Co, and at Vons is $2.99.

Did you see this article on MSN? 10 foods you will pay more for this year. It is scary. I hope this link works. money.msn.com/personal-finance/10-foods-you-will-pay-more-for-this-yearI read another article about living on a food stamp budget (Mother Earth Living, I think) where the author used organic foods. She even wrote a book about her experience. I don't know if I could do it. In my little, very rural town it is hard to even find organic foods. I need to start paying more to my lists and not what looks good.

ses I have a simple rule of thumb: If it is NOT on my list I either don't buy it or must pay for it out of my fun $. Keeps those impulse buys WAAAY down.

I do really well when I even have a list for groceries.....Problem is that DH is always along. To his credit though, he does buy yummy things that I'd never spend the money on.
I have though been paying attention to one of our local stores that has B1G1 every couple of weeks. If I can control DH long enough we are usually able to get out without too much additional stuff in the cart.

Stockpiling means that I bought toilet paper in Buffalo, NY, moved it to Conyers, GA, moved it again to Mudelien, IL, and moved the last few rolls to Naperville, IL. If I hadn't gotten married, I'd have probably moved the last roll to Anaheim, CA, too. Do you think a 10 year supply of TP is overkill?
Now, stockpiling means I bought a freezer to house the 60 pounds of pork shoulder I was going to buy. Do you think that 60 pounds of pulled pork for two people is overkill? Want a sandwich?

Do you think that 60 pounds of pulled pork for two people is overkill? Want a sandwich? If you have the space, absolutely not!! When I realized that the drug chains were gradually becoming less and less generous with the deals, I started to target certain products. TP was one of the products that I wanted to make absolutely sure that I would not run out of for a very long time. How long has it been since you really paid attention to the price of TP? It is shocking how expensive it is. Here; this is for you cuz you're gonna need it --> .

I went to the Grocery Outlet today cuz I can't make it there on Wednesday (when I get an extra 5% off).
The guy stocking the shelves saw me and said, "I have one package of mozzarella cheese left for $.99. Do you want it?" I looked at it and it was a 16 oz. package. I said, "You know me pretty well, don't you." LOL
I also snagged (4) lbs. of Parkay margerine for < $.50/lb. for cooking, a box of powdered sugar for $.99 (I was out), and a package of hot dog buns for $.99.
I spent under $5 and saved a bundle.

So here I was today, list and coupons in hand, and the local store doubles up to $.50. Colgate toothpaste (which I use) is 10/$10. I check to make sure I can buy only 5 and still get the same price, yep, sure can. So over to the pharmacy area ready to grab my deal of the day............................
Gone.....everyone one of the 3 listed were gone. Found the store manager who didn't know they were on sale, then amazed when he saw nothing but empty spaces. He took my name and said 5 will be set aside for me Thursday when the next delivery hits.
There is another store not to far from me, I think I will go over to see if they have any.
Never mind that I've done the same thing recently, but I don't like when it happens to me....<grrr>

I'm utilizing our local Asian market now. I ended up returning the rice I bought and bought rice at the Asian market, and saved $3.00. I have to control myself though. Too many goodies in there to count. Lots of fresh veg and cheaper prices than the stores, except for Grocery Outlet and the 99 cents only store. At least now I have more choices now

Restocking: Took advantage of the 10/$10 sale at kroger earlier this week (2 cream cheese, 6 cans veggies, and 2 cans re-fried beans). I also bought 2 cans albacore tuna which was on sale and I had a coupon. The ecoupon and Personal Prices I should have gotten credit for didn't show up on my receipt, so I am going to go in and ask the Customer Service desk why.

Stockpiling means that it's the middle of the month and so far, I've only spent $23 on groceries (for milk and produce). That will change when I buy our Easter ham and dinner rolls this week, but the main side dishes will be made from ingredients already in my stockpile - clam dip and chips (for an appetizer), green bean casserole, sweet potato souffle, and a cake (for dessert). My mom is bringing deviled eggs and SIL is bringing a salad.
The last time I had a ham bone I made split pea soup and I still have a container of that in the freezer; this time I'll make navy bean soup.

At least now I have more choices now I check the ads for the independent ethnic markets in town regularly. I cherry pick produce from them. Speaking of the Grocery Outlet and the 99 Cent Store - last week I was able to get sugar snap peas and carrots at the 99 Cent Store and a HUGE cluster of broccoli (3 heads) for $.99 at the GO. We added some onions and celery that I already had and made a yummy stir fry. I also found broccoli slaw at the 99 Cent Store. I added bacon, raisins, sunflower seeds, onion, and dressing to turn it into a sunshine salad.
