Hey, pepperdoo, I got a Manager's Special today too!! (8) pkgs. thin cut pork chops @ $2.25/lb. instead of $4.49/lb. I've been craving these for over a week, but I refuse to pay $4.49/lb. Now, I'll have several packages in the freezer!! Time to make Schnitzel!!!!!

I don't know if this is stockpiling or just the best deal of the century. I think Pizza Hut's Creamy Italian Salad Dressing is the best ever! I have been trying for years, unsuccessfully, to copy it. Last year I threw in the towel and bought a gallon from the local Pizza Hut. I did it again this year. I bought a gallon for $5.50 and got my pint jars ready to repackage it using my Foodsaver vacuum sealer. I sealed the first seven pints and realized I still had a lot of dressing left. This gallon jar had 9.5 pints of dressing!!! I ended up with 9.5 pints of dressing for .58 each. I don't think I could have made this amount of dressing from scratch for that price! I also got to clear a bazillion jars of old partially used dressing (unsuccessfully trying to find the perfect match) from the fridge.

This is going to be funny: My DH works for a university in the rec center and Kotex sent them 20 cases of little makeup bags with free samples of tampons and pads. His boss was annoyed at how many cases they sent so she sent home an entire case for me to use! Today he brought home another case for me to give to a single mom that I work with who has 3 teenage daughters. There are 4 tampons and 3 pads per bag and probably 75 bags or so in the case.
BOOM. No more tampons for me this year! Although I usually buy them at BJs so at this point I'm probably stocked for 2 years!

It's over $4.00 at any other store in town. I'm also buying my cat food at the 99 cents store. 2 for 99 cents. Best prices around

Stockpiling means to me when my deodorant was near the end, and fell apart onto the floor this AM, I didn't have to worry: I simply walked to our closet, and pulled out a new stick bought at the beginning of the year on sale w/ a coupon. Stockpiling means to me when I reached the bottom of my shampoo earlier this week, I walked to the same closet and retrieved a new bottle of shampoo and conditioner, also bought on sale w/a coupon and a BOGO deal. Stockpiling means to me when I thought I was almost out of fem protection and was going to put it on next month's grocery list, I removed it from said list b/c I already have some in my stockpile. I had forgotten I bought several boxes on sale w/ coupons last month. Stockpiling means to me when trying out a new recipe, I can simply shop my pantry for most of the items on hand, instead of taking an extra trip to the store. Stockpiling means to me I've already saved $834.42 so far this year taking advantage of Manager's Specials, sales, online and paper coupons.

I'll add shaving cream, dental floss, makeup and toothpaste to Iggy's list, and that was just stuff from this week that I needed, but had in the stockpile. And I cleaned out the hurricane pantry (yeah, I know. The storm season does not end until 11/1, but I think we're close enough. ). I have enough to help two food pantries this year.

Stockpiling means preparedness, whether it's for shopping the pantry to fix something for dinner or to last out an ice storm/longshoreman's strike/earthquake/whatever. However, I want to keep a careful eye on what we purchase and make sure we use it all: donnafreedman.com/2013/07/26/using-up-the-stockpile/Having to throw something away because it went bad...Well, that feels like sinning.

Donna, I really liked the article. As far as stockpiling is concerned, in recent years, my main goal was to make sure that I grew free stockpiles of all the non-perishables that we use on a regular basis. I do stockpile food products like pantry staples and items that can be frozen for an indefinite amount of time. We try to be very careful about wasting food; occasionally it happens.

donna In more than 10 years of stockpiling (food, HBA, paper goods, cleaning supplies) I JUST this week had to throw out a can of pumpkin. It was leaking. NO clue as to how old as no best buy date on it. This is an item I will NOT bother replacing much as I LOVE pumpkin pie but since my dad is gone I am the ONLY one.

Speaking of stockpiling....
Yesterday I found Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix for $.50 @ the Grocery Outlet, just in time for Xmas baking. I grabbed (10).

Stockpiling to me means I can take just 10 minutes on my Saturday and joyfully alphabetize my already organized canned goods: Beans, broth, soup, tomatoes, veggies, and "extras" such as enchilada sauce, olives and green chilies. When I showed DH I told him it was because I won't always be here.

Oh shizzle.... guess where I'm going today This wasn't at my regular Grocery Outlet. I was there on Friday and didn't see any of the BC cookie mix for less than $.99. I had forgotten that there is a Grocery Outlet not too far out of the way when I drive to my sister's home. We were going there yesterday, so I "made" DH stop to see if I could find any good deals. Her store is quite a bit larger than mine. Guess where I'm going to stop now on EVERY visit?

dancinmama: That is so great!! I didn't get to go today, as I am cooking Hungarian Goulash, but, on the bright side, I got all the fresh bell peppers, garlic and onions at the 99 cent store. The roast I got was $5.00, and all the veg and stock was about $5.00. It's normally really expensive to make, as red bell peppers are usually expensive here. Really fresh and crisp. Mondays are produce delivery day and it's usually a toss up to see what they have. I did have an onion, but I didn't want to use it. It was beginning to sprout. I would never feed that to anyone or eat it. Old onions are horrible! So, now I'll have a huge pot of Goulash for less than half the price it would normally cost I'll go to Grocery Outlet tomorrow anyhow to see what prizes they have.

I stockpiled almost $2500 today!! We had A LOT of tree work done today. Choice #1's bid was almost $5000. He is an extremely knowledgeable arborist. Choice #2's bid was $2500. He seemed very knowledgeable and is a tree contractor. So I asked myself whether or not the arborist's expertise was worth paying twice as much for and decided that it was not. Choice #2 did an awesome job!! For $2500 we had: (3) HUGE oak trees removed (6) mature oak trees shaped and thinned (4) birch trees shaped and thinned (8) mayten trees shaped and thinned and ground roots ground out (1) Japanese maple trimmed (2) Tulip magnolias trimmed The yard now looks so open and the trees are happy cuz they can breathe again!!

I went shopping for stocking up, since Thanksgiving is not too far away. At our local FoodsCo, there is a deal for canned soup and chicken stock that makes the price 48 cents each if you buy 10. I bought 10 of each for $9.60. Both will be used during the Holidays, so I'm set now

I have been meaning to post this for a few days. Wasn't sure whether to put it here or on the thread of what we have learned from the boards.
When I first joined I couponed some and knew how to use doublers etc. I didn't always do it but knew how. It never occurred to me to buy more than I needed or at least not to stockpile levels. I read a comment by someone who said they only shop by what is one sale for the week because they have what they need in their pantry. It is already there waiting, purchased when it was on sale. Somehow just seeing it put that way made a big difference in my thinking.
Like others have mentioned it is so nice to go to the pantry/cupboard when I am out of soap/shampoo/toothpaste etc and just get a new one. It is right there waiting for me.

My mom was a stockpiler and used coupons, but back in the day when I was growing up, there were no such things as Sunday coupon inserts. Most of her stockpiles were built buying at rock bottom prices and using the few coupons that she had gotten from the sources that were available in those days which were extremely limited. I had an aha moment when I started getting the newspaper in the 80s and realized that I could stockpile for pennies on the dollar by combining rock bottom prices with the Sunday insert coupons. I started asking neighbors who did not clip if they wouldn't mind leaving their coupons on the front porch so that I could pick them up on my Monday morning walk. No one knew how many inserts I was collecting or how many coupons I was using. Back in the day, it was my little secret.

I am hoping for tangelos and cuties this winter, but time will tell. Did you ever find the BC cookie mix at the GO? They never had the sugar cookie mix at my GO and the peanut butter cookie mix is still $.99. It just shows how different the deals can be from one GO to another. Sometimes they overlap and sometimes they are unique.

I also got Canadian Bacon in a whole piece, rather than the paper thin slices to make chowder this year. I usually have to order it or, if they have it in the deli, it's $5.99 a pound. Special K Cinnamon Pecan cereal is now $2.79. Over at Vons it's over $5.00 a box! Does your GO have a good wine section? I got a bottle of sweet bubbly Moscato for New Years for $7.00. Other places are going for $15.99. I'm addicted to Grocery outlet now

I added a ton to the stockpile this morning! I happened to hit Target as they were marking Halloween down to 70%. They had Bounty napkins, Solo paper plates, bowls and cups, and Dixie insulated to go coffee cups. They were Halloween patterns or colors (WHO CARES! NOT ME ). They were .89 ea. I bought as many as would fit in my cart. I did not clear the shelves, but close...lol

Tonight we had a taste of prepper cuisine... shuffling around the canned goods, I found a large can of whole peeled tomatoes that had been pushed off in back of the rest, and somehow missed getting rotated... with an expiration date indicating November of 2012. The can looked normal, so I opened it and found it to be normal in appearance and odor. I used it to make a batch of tomato sauce with spicy italian sausage and red wine, served over roasted spaghetti squash, with grated mozzarella and pecorino romano on top. It was pretty good... but there was a slight metallic aftertaste. I figure that the metallic aftertaste is something preppers have to get accustomed to.

Funny you should mention Moscato, I was able to get a killer deal on Beringer Moscato at Safeway....oh, I can't remember how long it's been. It was on sale, I had coupons, and you got an extra 10% off if you bought (6) or more bottles at one time. And guess what I did? Yep, I stockpiled!! Oh, Canadian bacon in clam chowder sounds wonderful. I've always done bacon. I just picked up a quart of half and half to make home-made clam chowder. I have a stockpile of clams. I get them for $.88/can on rain check at CVS. I've also noticed that they are a $1/can at Dollar Tree. I sure wish the brand DT carries had coupon matchups, but I've never seen or heard of it before (Cape May).

For some odd reason I was digging thru the shelf where I keep all my coffee. I found a small can of coffee w/the best by date of Dec 2011. Lord knows how long it has really been there. I will check it out as soon as I finish my open can - about 5-6 weeks.

Patstab--when you got your bulk purchase of beef did you, or could you, get a bunch of bones for homemade broth?
I, too, have semi "prepper" mindset about my stockpile. I prefer to think of myself as self-sufficient though.
