...You're also one of very few posters who shares my habit of dissecting longer posts and addressing them point for point. that drives some other posters here absolutely batty. have you run into that? But seriously - you two are some of the (IMHO) strongest debaters on the forum, which I really appreciate. While I may not agree with you positions I respect your ability to present well reasoned, consistent, and supportable (most of the time) positions. I honestly wish I'd had to opportunity to observe some of the discourse while still in debate club.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that Virgil is comparing a poster called Miss Tequila to a noble doe?

I wonder if the lesbian couple asked for whipped cream icing on the cake instead of buttercream? That might have pushed the bakery owner over the edge.

Despicable homophobic Christian radio show host Kevin Swanson said on his show today that it is okay to attend a same-sex wedding, but only if you hold up a sign with a Bible verse calling for the couple to be put to death. Swanson said that people can “attend the wedding and hold up the sign Leviticus 20:13 word for word: ‘If a man sleeps with a man as he sleeps with a woman the two of them have committed an abomination and they shall both be put to death.’ You could attend a wedding and hold up that sign.” He wasn’t yet done with his homophobic rant: “And I guess if it comes down to it, if you bake a cake for a homosexual wedding, you could put Leviticus 20:13 on the cake.” That was in reference to the cake shop in Oregon who refused to make a cake for a gay wedding and just closed their doors. Swanson had accused gay fascists of attacking the cake shop, telling his audience “that the Nazi Party had their birth at a homosexual bar in Berlin…This is what homosexuals do best and they will engage in their Pink Mafia effort to control and shut down businesses that do not cooperate with their agenda.” thebigslice.org/christian-radio-host-tell-gay-couples-die-wedding-day-audio/the link includes the audio of what he said.

That Leviticus guy was kinda messed up . . . if he were around today making his proclamations we (the big we) would have marginalized/shunned him as crazy a long time ago. Just sayin' . . .

In some countries, male/male sexual relations are illegal while female/female sexual relations are not. In some countries male/male sexual relations will get you life in prison while female/female sexual relations will get a reduced sentence. LGBT rights by country or territory

That's about as despicable as Hitler himself. "Despicable" is from the article, not my words. But I do find it horrifying that they are using religion in this way. Things like THIS is why I am so anti-religion.

If you wish to spend your life/energy focusing on the negative applications of religion promulgate by a few, instead of opening your eyes and recognizing the far greater good things that are done in the name of religion by the many, that of course, is your right.
I honestly hope you don't spend all of your energy looking for the negative in everything, as opposed to the positive, in all other aspects of you life.
Peace.

I honestly hope you don't spend all of your energy looking for the negative in everything, as opposed to the positive, in all other aspects of you life. Peace. Well FWIW, I agree with Steff. I think God is totally awesome and I spent many (many) years searching for a spiritual home by trying out different denominations and congregations. The negativity, judgementalness, narrow-mindedness, hostility, hypocracy and discrimination "in the Name of the Lord" that I found was not isolated to "a few." It was sadly pervasive. I finally made peace with the whole thing by giving up. I no longer wrestle with religion and trying to find a spiritual "home." I'm done. I think God is awesome [forever and ever, Amen], but most organized religions who purport to "know" Him suck. Period. JMHO YMMV Flame away.

What does that mean? First of all, sleeping is sleeping. There shouldn't be any problems with actual sleeping. In barracks, airplanes, carpools, hospital wards, algebra classes, during Rush Limbaugh broadcasts... people sleep together all the time.
Herdsmen and farmers knew what sexual intercourse was thousands of years ago, and I'm sure they had words for it... but the prude(s) who authored Leviticus used a clumsy euphemism? "...sleeps with a man as he sleeps with a woman" apparently means "uses as a sex object". Got it. A man can NOT use another another human being as a sex object... unless it's a lowly female. And even then, if they cover themselves with a blanket made of blended fibers they are an abomination.
If you plant cabbages next to rutabagas you will spend eternity in the fiery pits of hell? And what happens to anybody who, knowingly or unknowingly, eats those cabbages and rutabagas? Are they not then defiled? Abomination is everywhere!
