Technically given that he is Commander-in-Chief he doesn't have to go to Congress
but given that 80% of the public wanted him to, it was a prudent move.
Personally, I think Syrians are killing Syrians....for us to kill more Syrians doesn't make things better It will leave us with none of the thanks..... and all of the blame.
We could offer more support to the Countries which are having to house the refugees.....We could put pressure on the Russians and the Arab league to take more of a leading role.
but I'm tired of British soldiers dying trying to sort out someone else's rat infested Country and don't want other British families to have to suffer for this madness.
The dead Syrian children is heart breaking.... but "at at first do no harm"...would be the order of the day.

So if the things in your latest rant don't come to pass, how will you make it a negative of Obama? As an ardent "follower," I'm sure you can come up with something to support the things I've brought up are pure nonsense. Anxiously awaiting your input to help reprogram my brain get me back on track with the "movement." For a little clarification, not that it will be accepted, I don't give a damn who the president is. This is about what is currently going on. Like it or not, as captian of the ship, he owns it. Your post isn't exactly about what is going on but rather what you think will happen in the near future. Time will tell if it is correct or not, just as time proved your statement of him not going to Congress was not correct. For a little clarification, I called for impeachment if he didn't go to Congress.

If you hear on the news that an event has taken place that would require you to be at work to possibly carry out a task that you have agreed by taking the job in the first place to be responsible for taking care of, do you head out the door or wait for a phone call? In this case you wait for a phone call. Here is what we got by Congress waiting for the phone call: Yet, while I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization, I know that the country will be stronger if we take this course, and our actions will be even more effective. We should have this debate, because the issues are too big for business as usual. And this morning, John Boehner, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell agreed that this is the right thing to do for our democracy. www.npr.org/2013/08/31/217610904/transcript-president-obama-turns-to-congress-on-syria "(B)usiness as usual" is the President having the authority to attack but in this case involving Congress is the "right thing to do", not the constitutionally necessary thing to do. I still would have preferred for Congress to declare that they were going to return to session to meet their constitutionally mandated responsibility to declare war.

He will go to war. A war we cannot afford given all the other problems but a great way to deflect the problems away.

Before we know what WILL happen, we have to know what IS happening. Right now, nothing is happening. The president has decided to let congress make the call. Congress is out of session and isn't coming back until after the holiday. That tells me we don't know, at this point, what will happen. I'm fairly sure nobody here can see into the future with absolute surety.

With congress out of session, lonewolf, what do you expect the president to do about this situation? They need to vote. They aren't in session. They didn't decide to come back into session and the president hasn't demanded they go back into session. So, what is it, exactly, that's wrong about congress and the president taking holiday just like any other citizen in this country? They're people, not robots.

I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the president taking a break and playing golf, and the congress taking a break and doing whatever they enjoy doing. That would include, of course, congress members from both major parties ...

Everyone NEEDS downtime, it doesn't matter who it is. No one can run on all cylinders 24/7 without taking needed downtime. The body is not capable and you get burnt out damn quickly.

He needs to be in his office. Running the government is more important than any business and most good businesses are open today. ... And how many CEO's are working today?

At least Supteme Court associate justice Ginsburg did something this Labor Day weekend which benefited our country: she officiated a same-sex wedding in D.C.

What about the congressmen/women who aren't in their offices, lonewolf? Why point the finger in one direction while completely ignoring the exact same situation in another direction? Without congress (they want to be involved and he's given them that involvement), what is the president to do about the Syrian situation? Congress could have foregone their vacations. They could have called themselves back into session. They chose not to do so, and their discussion/vote is needed here.
