Ok I've been saying my roommate is a senior citizen. I just heard her birthday 1962!!!! She is 51. Yikes that is rough 51! My hubby is 48. Glad you are going home tomorrow. What a crappy week!

Thank goodness you know what's up and are going home. Fingers crossed that you get a hospital billing department like the one at the hospital I was at. I call to ask and they gave me one without any questions or hassles. And the payment was low enough that we can easily afford it each month and interest free.
Doesn't real food after a few days of clear liquids taste awesome?

Did the docs say anything about diverticulitis, muttley?
Jeep, hon, I amazed at how well you're holding up. You've got so darned much on your plate right now!

I wouldn't blame you a bit, Jeep! I'd have the biggest pity party ever if I were you!
Glad to hear it was only an infection and not a chronic problem, muttley. The antibiotics should have you back to yourself in no time!

MidJD - Wait, you mean you didn't spend Sunday night checking out the cheapest restaurants near the hospital?
DramaQ1015 - No no no, she should have known this could happen and already had a list ready of all available hosptials in the area and their rates and then pick the cheapst one on the way to the ER.
Swamp - I'm sure she's passing the time in the hospital making a spreadsheet of the nearest restaurants and collecting coupons for them. And negotiating her bill at the hospital. Isn't that what all good YM'ers do when they are hospitalized?
beerwench - Well I go in with a spreadsheet full of surgeries and prices points. If they can't give me an appendectomy at the price I am willing to pay then I am fully prepared to walk
Gee you guys, all of those comments from my post on a thread. All I said was that some planning could save some money. Yet the paranoid estrogen types wouldn't let it go because "OMG, who can plan when a life is in danger". A huge over reactions over things they themselves would have done but it's a crime to actually say that you would do them. Well maybe I've got estrogen problem tonight & I want to over react. Good by.

Mutt: I hope you're feeling better soon. Glad to hear it they found the problem and can heal you.
Is your DH's pain related to his back surgery? Did he rupture a disk? Could a piece be lodged in his sciatic nerve? That happened to my DH and even after surgery he was still in great pain until the nerve healed.
Milee and Angel: ROFL.
OldTex: pssst: they were all joking in an effort to cheer Muttley up.

Lol
So I did the very un-YM thing and asked for a room change and when all they had was a private. I took it. My roommate was just going bazerk about her lack of pain meds and her sensors were going off every 5 min bc she refused to leave oxygen on.

Glad you are on the mend, but what worrisome symptoms! Glad you have insurance so the bills won't be too high!
Didn't your DH have very major back surgery? Aren't you are on pretty heavy duty pain killers for a long while? Might be an addiction issue as that can happen WAY too easily on back surgeries. The Docs will have to sort that out first & I'm actually going to hope it is that and not a back surgery that didn't actually fix the problem.
Best of Luck to you & hope you can still rest enough when you are back home.

Awww...tex! I was joking! It't not like it's the first time I've done that around here!!! I was thinking of someone buying a used car when I thought of that. I don't even know what you posted that was similar...did you take a spreadsheet into the hospital? Besides, we've been ripping on zib for her "3 hours of leagalese" comment all week and she hasn't gotten miffed over it.

GI doctor says I'm going home today. Hopefully the internal medicine doctor says the same thing.

Rock it - the situation with my husband is more complicated than it I want write out on my phone. He was on narcotic pain meds for 18 months, but he has been off them for 2 months.
Old Tex - way to be an asshole. I've been on the hospital for 5 days and you want to bitch about people making me laugh. Besides I did think about money by choosing urgent care of the ER. In the long run didn't save me a dime. I probably didn't even save time.

Don't let my husband hear you say that. I just got him to agree to not go to the ER for everything like his mom.

What a surprising turn of events...
I don't know; oldtex was pretty blunt in the other thread. I don't think that anyone disputed the general idea that a little planning can save money. If you CAN focus on pricing out options while you are worried about your loved one, more power to you.
I do agree that in some cases "I can't focus on that right now" is just an excuse. Yes, the laws of money still apply when its an emergency or a tragedy.
I do hope he comes back though.

If everyone who got poked fun of on YM walked off there wouldn't be a board anymore.
P&M would be a ghost town too. Goodness knows they provide endless fodder.

With me in the hospital and hubby juggling 2 little kids and us being out of stamps, they are now on the verge of being late. My whole point on the other thread is that when there are medical problems, finances aren't the number one priority. With some people they apparently are. I was trying to point out not everyone is like that. If someone wants to get upset for others using those quotes as a week later to cheer up a person in the hospital for 5 fucking days, he needs to get over it.

I've found you have to be pretty darn late, like 60-90 days before they get pissed at you. Hospital billing is usually pretty good about finding ways to work with you rather than deal with collections.
So try not to worry about it. It's not like credi cards where your interest will shoot up and a bazillion late fees will be added on.
