I'm not going to go looking for trouble and I avoid it if at all possible. I only got a CCL because DFs ex broke in our house and stalks us/me. She gets away with it because she's "nuts." Like a fox. Since I made sure her kids know I have a permit and carry and have no issue using it to protect myself, she only drives by our house-constantly. Weirdo. But that's okay. But IF she gets out of that car and comes onto this property, she's leaving in a body bag, plain and simple. If someone robs the house while I'm gone, so be it. If they rob it while I'm here, how do I know they aren't going to harm me or my loved ones? I don't. I consider it actually to be a civic duty to rid the world of some criminal who will go on to commit even more crimes and could be even more violent ones. When I hear of a criminal being shot, I think of all the lives that criminal can no longer harm. That may make me a terrible person in some people's eyes and that's okay, I can live with it. Because I WILL live. I've been a victim and I NEVER will be one again.

Best move to TX then- in the civilized world you are not allowed to shoot people just because they step foot in your yard. You will go to jail.
So a civic duty to you is to kill someone for burglary? Someone snatches your purse and runs you going to shoot at them?
And what of the Joe Horn case- he went outside after police were called and shotgunned two people that had stole stuff from his neighbor's house- you ok with that? I know that kind of fantasy scenario gives Zimmerman types a hard-on, but how sick does one need to be to do something like that? Could you? Someone steals your neighbor's kid's bike- you going to plink them off of it?

Nope, but if they steal mine, yes, because they would have to come into my garage to do it and, yes, I'm allowed to do so. I realize you don't see things the same way and I'm okay with that but the way I think is the way I think and no amount of arguing is going to make me re-think my position. BTW, in most states, you can shoot someone on your property with no recourse. Obviously not the electric guy but if the EX was on my property, she is looking for trouble and she will find it. So will anyone else that shouldn't be on it. Stay away from me and mine and we will have no issues. For my neighbors, I will call the cops unless they are being harmed.

Funny. In six years of reading that poster I've NEVER thought that. (But as a side note, you can just feel the love of Christ washing over every word, can't you?)

I think it's funny that I'm considered odd because I would defend myself and my property. I figure the their doesn't value their life all that much so they certainly won't value mine.

So to clear it up- you would shoot a purse snatcher in the back? Or shoot someone riding your bike away? Someone doing nothing threatening at all but walking on your lawn. There was already one case where a neighborhood nutball shot a salesman and claimed the same self defense bullshit- there WAS a FL SYG case where a guy pulled a rifle on the electric company workers- in uniform- who came to turn off his power because he didn't pay the bill- luckily he fired a warning shot- but he still got away with it with no charges.
Don't mix this up with shooting someone in your house.
And crazy ex or not- you have no right of defense to shoot them on sight just because they are in your yard, knocking on your door, etc. Don't make that mistake- jail sucks.

As far as property- who gives a shit- take it. None of it is worth killing or getting killed over.

... no one and I tell you that, no one will ever take my gun away from me. ... No one is talking about taking your legally obtained and registered gun away from you, at least until you join the club. Registered?? Not here.

So that is two people here that will kill over property. I really thought you were better than that. Make that three. Actually, if you break into my home, I don't intend to wait around to see what it is you're after.

Need to reread- we are not talking about someone that breaks into your home (while you are there). What is with the violent women around here?
So same question- are you shooting a purse snatcher in the back or someone running away from your house with your TV? The property shooters seem to be dodging these scenarios.
Was Joe Horn a murderer or justified in your moral opinion- (forget what the law says)?

No you can't. You can shoot an armed intruder. You can shoot somebody to prevent serious bodily harm to another, so you could shoot to stop a beating if it was severe enough. You can't shoot somebody just for walking across your lawn. Not in any state in the country. Even if they walk past a no trespassing sign to do it.

You can shoot anyone that you deem a hazard to your safety on your property. No, I'm not shooting the trash pickup people. Yes, I m shooting someone I know means me harm. Yes, I would shoot someone who snatched my purse, even in the back. Probably would only wound them unfortunately because I'm not that good with moving targets but I'm working on it. I do not know if joe Horn shot the right people or not. Does he know? I'm wouldn't guess and n just shoot people I THOUGHT stole my property. Usually letting thieves know you're armed takes care of a lot of the petty crap. EVT1, you have a right to allow anyone you want to steal your property. I don't feel the same way. But if it makes you feel morally superior to me, join the crowd.

Well-for your sake I hope no one steals your purse since you will be going to jail for murder- not to mention being sued for everything you have- even if you wound them.
Shooting someone over property is immoral period- so you are taking an immoral position. Makes no difference to me how I feel- there are plenty of immoral people in this world and I don't care if you are one of them or not.

Yeah, you probably would. Even in states like Arizona and Texas which allow you to shoot somebody, even in the back, to stop a crime, only armed robbery is on the list. If the thief ain't armed you can't shoot them. If he attacks you and steals your purse you can claim self defense. If he snatches your purse and runs off, and you shoot him in the back, they'll charge you with murder.

Now if we could only depend on a jury to say so. That may be far too state-dependent to say with certainty, however.

Sitting through a jury trial is an awful lot of stress and money, not to mention the year you'll sit in jail waiting for the trial. I live in a LCOLA rural area, and my firm charges a minimum of $100,000 retainer for a murder case. I can't imagine what the cost would be in other areas of the country.

Well, a lawyer licensed to practice law in this state said I wouldn't so ill go with his point of view. I think when you're releasing murderers and pedophiles to prey again on their victims, they won't let me sit there for long. Plus, I've seen people booked and released. I'm not saying I won't be cuffed and taken down, he said I most certainly would be, but I will be released.

For shooting an unarmed person in the back while they're running away? Good luck with that. You'd be the first person in Florida history to do so as far as I can tell. The other cases that Google found with similar circumstances all end with convictions for the shooter.
