So for those that have been following my fostering saga a recap. I've had 16 yr old GW1 for 2 years. Wonderful young woman, all A's, we get along fantastically. LGW was with us for 6 months but has too many behaviours for me to handle when I am single and work full time. She has moved to another foster home better set up to service her needs. GW2 is almost 18, just moved in and will hopefully be staying here as she moves on to university. We are going out to get the paint for GW2's room today and painting. She has chosen grey with an almost burgundy accent wall. I am really hopeful here.

I guess she is staying for more than a week, if you are painting for her!

I am so happy to hear that Later! Do the girls get along well? Is GW2 becoming less shy now?

Thyme we plan for her to stay a while and it is so much easier to paint before she moves all her stuff in. It is possible that will change but I hope not. The girls get along well and the beauty is neither of them needs to take care of the other. GW1 is finding out she doesn't mind being the younger one.

Sounds like you are off to a good start with these two GWs living together with you. Hope it stays this way.

Just curious, Later ... is GW2 still taking the guest room, or will the girls both be on the same floor? I am not at all surprised that GW is happy to have a "big sister"! I think it is great for GW1 to have GW2 as a role model. Also, does this mean that GW2 (and later GW1) would live with you full time and go to uni locally? Or might they live on campus and just come home on weekends / school holidays? I'm just curious (luckily I'm not a cat LOL). Later, I know the issue was LGW was her behavioral issues, and not her age. But sometimes we do better with certain age groups than others. So maybe helping these older girls to live up to their potential is your niche?! I truly hope that it's smooth sailing for all three of you.

GW2 is in the guest room right now until we get the room downstairs painted. We should finish it today. Then both girls are downstairs with the family room and their own washroom. Which means I have the living room and my own washroom upstairs GW2 plans to live with me full time while going to university locally. GW1 is considering that idea but she has 2 years to decide. If GW1 decides to go away for university I think I would keep her room for her to come home on vacation. We'll make those decisions if the time comes.
I think you may be right debt. This might be my niche

I think it is wonderful that your niche is teenagers! Growing up I saw so many teenagers in the foster care system that had a hard time finding a foster home that was a good fit. Babies and toddlers are so much easier to place. What you are doing is so rewarding to you and them...you are giving them the stability they so desperately need. Life is HARD as a teen. I think what you are doing is just wonderful!

I love older kids. First of all, they aren't being yo-yo'd anymore by the legal system. And they are old enough to realize YOU aren't the enemy. They just need a home and stability. Love is an added gift.

I think your new gal needs a totally separate nick name. Let's come up with something other than GW1 and GW2, in which the younger one is 1, and the older one is 2. That is confusing. And I just don't have that much brain power.
How about:
College Wonder Woman
or
Degree girl
or
Bachelor seeker
or something.
(Man, am I bad at nicknames or what!)

Congratulations Later! I'm so glad that you didn't give up. I agree, it's so much harder for kids as they get older to find a good foster home. Keep us posted!

Later that's great! I only asked because I remember when you phoned GW to ask her if you could take this new girl in (for just a week at that point), GW said sure, but that she preferred she be in the guest room. So to me the fact that the girls decided to be on the same floor says a lot.
As far as if GW goes away to uni or not, I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. Of course she hasn't made that decision yet, she has plenty of time. I was more curious about how the foster system works. You mentioned that after teens "age out" they can still have room and board paid for if they go to uni, so I was curious whether they had to stay with a foster family, or whether they also have the option to go away to uni and live independently.
And I agree with Thyme, I think GW2 deserves her own nickname LOL. How about Lady Wonder (since she's almost 18)?

It's great they are getting along so well.
I'm happy GW2 has you there to guide her as she makes the transition to adult hood. Obviously, she will get no support from her parents. GW2 probably wouldn't know how to make a budget. Teach her. She will appreciate it later on.

How are things going Later?
Has Lady Wonder moved into her room? Is she settling in?
Are GW and LW still getting along well?
Have you had any news on LGW?

It's going so well. I have a peaceful home again. The girls get along great, we have GW2's room done. Just put the closet doors back on today actually. It is night and day to LGW. GW got an email from LGW saying "I want to leave this place!" I'm taking that to mean they gave her chores to do. She is in a good foster home with a family with lots of experience.

It's great they had a good time shopping together. Sounds like they're bonding the way women bond ... shopping! I'm so glad to hear your home is back to peace and tranquility (at least, as much as two teen girls allow), laterbloomer. I'm sure the girls provide you with a lot of smiles and good feelings. I'm one of those "bent" folks who really loves teenagers. They're PITAs, but they're funny, and witty, and awkward, and adorable all at the same time.

Thanks kitty. We are on vacation right now visiting my parents. It's going well. GW2 is as good as she seemed. I find this no work at all and a lot of fun, but apparently I am filling a niche. Teen girls and kids aging out are the hardest to place. That amazes me. I have 2 really great young women now. Life is good.

I agree that you need a name-change for your newest arrival - mainly to avoid further confusion between the two (I never could keep GW1 and GW2 straight)
Maybe the one who's been there the longest can remain GW (Girl Wonder)while the new member of your home can be TW (Teen Wonder) so we know which one is which from here on when you talk about them.
