it would be funny if Wendy Davis ended up replacing Rick Perry. That first night, as I sat enraged watching it all online, I kept wondering "where's the modern day Ann Richards?". I think we found her. It also reassured me to see Cecile Richards, her daughter, speaking outside the chambers to the crowd. Loved Ann Richards! What a sense of humor! Hers was quite a loss. Mother and I both mourned.

Oh, they've got their noses in the choice to become pregnant, or NOT become pregnant, as well. They want to have a say in the kind of birth control people practice, as well. The "morning after pill" is an abomination, don'cha know! But there is always abstinence, so one does not have to become pregnant. They are fully supportive of that. yeah, because we all know how well "Just Say No" works........

It's actually quite low, dj. My memory is of old teachings and things may have changed some over time, but it was around 5-8% success for each "try" about 20 years ago. In other words, it's not all that easy to get pregnant, over all, even if there are no fertility problems.

mmhmm, my son voted for the first time last year. He voted Independent. I was proud of him for #1 actually voting! #2 for making his own choice, that was different than both hubby & myself & sticking to his guns about it.
I LOVED Ann Richards! She was really the first female politician other than Kathy Whitmire that I was exposed to. Growing up in Texas, our female political powerhouses were few & far between. Ann Richards was funny, got things done & was just a bad ass! We need more women like her in politics.

My family is from right outside of there. i did not know that. how did it get that name? it must be spanish ? edit: just looked it up. it was taken from the local indian tribe.

My kids go their own ways, steff. They're independent thinkers. Son is conservative, daughter is liberal, I'm moderate. We're a mish-mosh.

I think it has something to do with the Natchez/Caddo Indians.
Did you also know that there is only 1 natural lake in all of Texas? Caddo Lake. All other lakes are man made.

Natchitoches, LA is the sister city to Nacogdoches, TX. Natchitoches is named after the Natchitoches indian tribe. Don't know what Nacogdoches is named after.

We're moving here, Sugi, but it's slow as molasses. I imagine the ProBoards admins are scrambling pretty good about now with the support site down.

I've got family in Natchitoches who have been there since the 1700s, as well, steff. Must be something about that town name ... Of course, in Louisiana, it's pronounced "nackatish".

We were there under the Spain flag, then under Mexico & then under the Republic. Then we have the Confederacy & the US. We only missed out on the French flag. LOL But there is a French doctor that married into the family in the early 1800s. I have ancestors that fought at the battle of San Jacinto, which led to Texas independence.
On my dad's side, we settled in during the Republic in the 1850's.

Oh please. I know the exactly slant of some one by the term used. I can define others as PRO abortion just like they csn define me as ANTI abortion rather than PRO life. So may we assume that is a categorical, "NO!" on the idea of not continuing to sound like an idiot?

People can oppose what they want to oppose. And we can also pass more restrictive laws as well. and the SCOTUS can overturn them. And for those of us who actually stayed awake in US history in high school (lol), that's why they call it "checks and balances."

So may we assume that is a categorical, "NO!" on the idea of not continuing to sound like an idiot? Hey, a person can use whatever language they choose. It doesn't mean that others won't find it extremely offensive, might cause some lost respect, and might make them sound small-minded or uninformed. But, if shoob wants to continue using the langauge, then I support her choice to insult others rather to have a genuine conversation on the issues. I suppose if ones beliefs are so wrapped up tight that you literally can't see the other side of the issues, then it is an honest protrayal of feelings to just be insulting to the other side.

Found an interesting article discussing the survival rate at each point during a potential pregnancy. discovermagazine.com/2004/may/coverThey say an egg has a 33% chance of being fertilized if you have sex at the right time. Then that egg has a 50% chance (give or take, I have heard anywhere from 25-75%) of actual implantation. Then that implanted egg has a 75% chance of surviving the first few weeks. So only something like 38% of fertilized eggs make it to a point where they are likely to be viable. Think of all the billions of lost souls if we want to believe that life begins at conception
