Have you read any of oped's posts? She doesn't strike me as a sissy. Saying that we can't use red because a child will cry is coddling our children (that was another poster's argument earlier in the thread). I don't like the color black...it upsets me. So damn it, I forbid anyone to ever use that color again. See how crazy that sounds ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif)

Actually, I think the only one who has mentioned banning red pens so children don't cry are the people holding up this policy as irrational.
And I'm not sure that one individual's stated preference is the same as multiple research studies demonstrating poorer learning outcomes for a significant chunk of the population. But that's just me.

No, someone's child earlier in teh thread got upset over red pens...I can't remember who and I'm not going through 4 pages to find the original post. Research changes all the time...first butter was good, tehn it was bad and margarine was good and now margarine will kill you. First babies were supposed to sleep on their stomachs and then their backs. And so on and so on and so on.... I have never heard of anyone yammering about red pens until this thread. The fact that money was wasted even studying this blows my mind.

And one day they will be say that people are dying of LOW cholestrol ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif) Things flop around with these studies like the blowing of the wind.

I'm not sure why you are surprised by the research or consider this wasteful.
Is it wasteful to research what website color scheme is easiest to read if you are colorblind? Is it wasteful to research what fonts make it easiest for dyslexic students to process text? What time elementary school students should start class? If the high school students should start at the same time or a different one? How taking handwritten notes compares to typing notes when it comes to learning the material? Whether or not classrooms should have windows?
It seems to me that educating children is a thing that we should try to do really well. And the only way to do that is to figure out what factors matter to learning.

I'm just waiting for the study that shows drinking on the job IS beneficial and increases productivity! Does anyone know how to fund a study? Fund it? You mean someone should be paying me for drinking on the job? Damn CL, shredding another memo ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png)

We fund all kinds of idiotic things. I had a professor in college who had previously worked off a grant that allowed her to study followers of the Grateful Dead for 10 YEARS!!
