Geeze, something must be wrong with me. Red is my second favorite color following Purple. I probably would have been scarred for life if teachers had used Purple pens back in my day. Hell they probably didn't even have purple pens back then ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif) Red is one of my favorite colors as well. I wear red clothing, the sofa in my living room is red, as well as the comforter on my bed. I was thinking about this last night trying to figure out if perhaps I just didn't get it because I like red so much ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif)

I am eyeballing a gorgeous pair of red heels to go with my black skinny jeans and my white and black striped top. I also have a red necklace that I wear with the outfit. I always get compliments when I wear it.

It's not a self esteem issue. I'd personally just be more likely to either ignore and not read red ink, or be more prone to punching things... No big deal to me. .... ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif)

I am not really affected by color. I hate white walls and white cabinets/counter tops....but that is because to ME it is extremely boring/blah. It doesn't make me angry (ok when I have to wipe handprints off it does), sad, depressed, happy...to me it is just BLAH.
I know people say that colors affects them...I just don't really have a personal experiece of that happening. I painted my work bathroom yellow once because it was bright and cheery and one of my employees said the color yellow drove her crazy. I eventually repainted it because I got tired of her complaining about the color.

I asked my preschool art class last week about color and emotions. 3-5 year olds, I didn't lead at all, green, purple, orange, yellow were all suggested for happy. The only mad, bad colors were black and red. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif) It is that bright, 'red ink' color that bothers me. I don't mind like darker, more muted, what would it be country or french reds? Ink red is like bright blood red.

I'm still not convinced this needs to rise to the level of school board intervention, but I can definitely see the merits of the switch. And not just to coddle students.
X 1. a 2. c 3. b X 4. a 5. d
The above makes it pretty easy to figure out which questions I missed.
But, if you were going to correct any spelling and grammar errors I made, and write a couple of margin comments about the points that I was making in the body of my essay. And then you added a short paragraph at the end of the essay to let me know which aspects of my argument needed more support. Maybe you want to identify the counter argument to the purpose of my essay, and let me know that my essay could have been stronger if I had acknowledged the counter argument and then disproved it. And then maybe you add some other random words to build up this paragraph a bit more to help me illustrate a point.
Too much red text is hard to read. Not impossible to read... just harder. It strains your eyes a bit and invites you to skim over it. So the more feedback the teacher gives - arguably, the better they are at grading - the less the student is able to benefit from it.

Somehow I ended up "picking" green for my oldest and "blue" for my middle one and now they think it's their favorite color. So, Oped, if I were to do the experiment, what would be the best way to do it? BTW, I hope you all realize that once I am done my "study" - it will be pretty much as good as G-d's word, so there won't be any need for future debates.

I had no idea this much thought went into ink. I'm in the wrong research biz. I've spent 8 years elbow deep in rat/mouse poo, bacteria, caustic chemicals and various bodily fluids. When all this time I could have been debating the physiological and psychological impacts of red ink on the student body (That could be my proposal tite!) ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png)
It's INK for crying out loud. People really spend this much time pondering how it makes them feel? To the point where policies are being made on the subject?
To think I've been psychologically abused all this time. I thought I used red ink because it stands out against the black font and is easier to read than other colors of ink. Huh, learn something new every day.

GAH! STOOPID board at my post!!! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png) Anyhow, in response to Lena "skewing" her boys' answers I told the story of my Mom assigning all of us older kids colors to get through her day (my brother is so much younger than us he's practically an only). Oldest sis was yellow, next sis was green, I was red ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif) , next sis was blue and the last was purple. We each had our own cup, plate, towel, etc in our assigned color and it cut down on arguments considerably! I don't know about my sisters, but I have no feelings one way or the other about "my" color (or any other for that matter). ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif)

I just randomly asked my kids what color ink their teachers used to correct their papers. None of them had a clue what color ink was used. I asked if they would be upset if the teacher used red...they said "no, why would we? It is just ink." I then had them pull out their binders/portfolios so we could see what color ink was used. Every single paper was corrected in red ink.

Everyone is offended by something. As far as the color red being associated with failure or mistakes people make them all the time and yes even kids need to learn to deal with them. Mom won't be there when those kids are at work to hug them and tell them it will be alright when they make a mistake.

So, basically the reason we should keep using red pens is because we have always used red pens? So what if they start grading in blue? I really don't see why this is even a topic of conversation. We just want to make sure the next generation gets the same traditions that we had?
Later are we all going to stand on the porch and shake our fists at kids on skateboards and yell "Damn kids today!"

No I think the reason it shouldn't matter is because you can't please everyone and sooner or later someone else is going to have a problem with the new color used. Being too PC and coddling kids too much is not a good thing because in the real world when they're adults they need to deal with issues big and small. The fact this is a topic of conversation that school boards may have to address is a waste of time and money.

Piece of trivia, but when I worked at Macy's, we did markdowns in purple ink. They probably did a psychological study and discovered red ink turned buyers off. I know it's rare for people to have a purple pen in their purse (DIY markdowns), but it's just as rare to have a red pen. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

The 17 year old my mom is raising was diagnosed with ODD when he was like 4..? I am sorry but I don't buy it. The kid was a little shit (and still is) because my mom was a shitty parent. She let him do whatever he wanted and would yell at people who tried to stop him. Then she would wonder why no one in the family ever wanted to take him/watch him. I told her if she died before he was an adult there was no way in hell I was taking him. Wait, you buy ADHD exists but not ODD? ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/huh.gif) Let me add the ODD diagnosis of DS to the every growing list of reasons why I'm a shitty parent. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/raspberries.png) Does it still count against me if I share no DNA with the kid? ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/tongue2.png)

And in this particular example...I do NOT believe he has ODD. I believe his issues are caused from extremely shitty parenting. I guess you would have to see how she parented him when he was little. He could do no wrong. He was allowed to bite, hit, etc and no one was allowed to discipline him EVER. ETA: I do believe some kids do have ADHD but I do believe many are misdiagnosed.

I don't have a problem with black. I think it's considered mad because its dark? But red can make me, not necessarily mad, but really tense and agitated. Crafty's post, lol, I couldn't read it. When I rolled by it made me tense up.

I realize its crazy, lol. If you don't have it you probably just won't get it. But it definately exists. But honestly, tellinging someone to just suck it up isn't likely to help. It is visceral.

The fact this is a topic of conversation that school boards may have to address is a waste of time and money. What I'm not clear on is - the more trivial and inconsequential the issue is - the MORE people want to spend arguing about it and insisting that it doesn't matter? So- if essentially is matters not-and some so called do-gooder says - look it's better to use purple or green, and I've got 3 studies that back that up. If it really doesn't matter - why not shrug and move on? Isn't this like going out to lunch with a friend - you say eh - doesn't matter, and friend says I really don't want to do sushi, but italian or thai is ok with me. and then you argue that it doesn't matter some more? Why? isn't it a dead issue? If your argument is it "doesn't matter" and someone else says "blue is better" - isn't going with blue the immediate, obvious solution? If in fact, it doesn't matter? I don't think the color of ink matters...but I also think it is absolutely crazy to say that we can't use red because some little sissy's feelings will get hurt. We are becoming a nation of coddled morons...for that reason, to me it does matter...it is crazy what the bleeding hearts will think of

If it doesn't matter - who cares? Lots of schools have uniforms, they tell you what color socks to wear. does it matter? no. but who cares? Ok, then it matters to me.
