Thyme - have you ever looked at the website Houzz ? I think I could look at that website for hours. Anyway, you can search photos and get all kinds of ideas.

Because I have a red room and I don't like it. Why would I paint another room red and think I would like it?

Waffle - there are a bunch of gray rooms on there. I am sold now. Granted, I can never connect pictures like those with how we actually live. Half of those rooms are the size of my house, and none of them have dirty clothes on the floor. Just one picture of reality would probably help me more than a dozen of dream land.

Does gray match the sex swing? I think black would be a more appropriate color to match the sex swing.

I've noticed a lot of gray on that site - it must be popular now. Sometimes I narrow my search by adding "small", because you are right there are many many pictures of huge rooms.

After I looked at a couple of pages, it was forcing me to log-in. That ain't happenin'. You don't have to supply with them with much info to log-in - just an email address, create a name and a password. I set my mom up with an old yahoo email address that I never use (she doesn't have email). If you don't want to be bothered with their "New on Houzz this week" type emails - just sign up with an email address that you don't use.

I often use the account I set up to be on the MSN YM boards. I used my real email there, but it was public, so some guy was sending me emails - to my real name! And the emails were not exactly friendly. Given how much personal information I share here, and the fact that my information is all over the web, I thought that was a fairly dangerous position to be in.
But, I don't want to go through the hassle of setting up an account just so I can look at hundreds of pictures of rooms that are nicer than anything I will ever have. Too much torture. I will just stick with buying paint and congratulating myself when I don't spill it on the carpet.

What color is your bedroom? It's kinda a plum/lavender. Imagine something halfway between the two samples that beerwench posted.
What feeling does it convey when you walk in? "Oh, that's why they say to pick out a color that you like and go two shades lighter" and "Use tape, don't eyeball".
Why do you like it / not like it? It might be tolerable, albeit a little trite and dated, if it were two shades lighter and done right. Since I work nights and sleep during the day, dark walls do help me sleep. On the other hand, the house is 900 SF. My plan for decorating the house is to first paint everything white, possibly ceiling white, and then add color if needed. Creating the illusion of space with light and uninterrupted colors trumps pretty much everything else.
Would you suggest the color to someone like me? No. I would not use this color unless I were trying to make the bedroom and the rest of the house feel smaller. If you need a dark bedroom, use window treatments instead.

I think I'm going to go with a light or medium gray. Then, anything but brown will match it. And maybe I can last 20 years without painting again, even if I go through 5 duvets. 50 shades of gray? ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

I spent many days putting three different coats of paint on my bedroom walls that if I remember correctly was something like "pulling off" which was the opposite of when you sponge on paint. It turned out absolutely nothing like the brochure I had (bought the paints from the store the brochure came from in the exact kind/color of paint). Anyhow, it turned out kind of a cross between gold and tan, and has texture to it. I liked it, so left it. My comforter is lightish brown, with palm trees on it. The throw pillows (4) I layer across the bed, two are a tannish color and two are dark green to match the palm trees. I love the comforter and pillows. Carpet is green, which I've always wanted to replace with hardwood, but since I've decided not to stay here forever, will just leave the carpet. Furniture is mostly a dark brown. I just bought an upholstered headboard that is a dark taupe. I have a fainting couch in my room that is a dark green. I had two dark bedside tables, but last year I actually used two circular barstools covered with taupe colored material. Curtains have been those white gauzy curtains. Very tropical feel. I just bought a winter comforter and curtains a few months ago. It's in the cinnamon, brown, cream colors. Same with the curtains. I wanted curtains to help with the heat factor, and they have really helped, so I bought some to go with the summer comforter. I've left the white curtains up behind both sets of curtains, so that I can open the curtains in the daytime and have muted daylight. Alot of my house is done in browns, taupe and greens. DD's room is done in the "orange" color you were all talking about, with a comforter that has palm leaves and those tropical flowers that you see in Hawaii, which are in an orange color. I made a really cool picture by using a poster type picture frame (think size of a full length mirror). It is a sticker of a surfboard, with cutouts going downmiddle of the surfboard and the same flower that's on her bed, and her name on another sticker below the surfboard. The cutouts shows her wall through them. So the surfboard is the same green as her bedspread, her name is kind of a turquoise blue, and the surfboard shows the orange. Pretty nifty! DS has blue/grey walls and chocolate brown curtains and comforter. Their bathroom used to be coca cola red, with coke accents. Now it's the blue and brown that is all the rage (or was a couple of years ago). I have to agree, red is a tough color on walls ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png) My great room is taupe, but I have a really tall cathedral wall that I painted in a dark green with texture. Love the wall. I'm going to really hate painting over all of the walls when it's time to sell. I would probably take it personally when people looking at the house made nasty comments about my paint choices ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png)

Fifty shades of white will serve you better. Easier to find too. I think Behr makes at least 30.

What feeling does it convey when I walk in: SLEEP! I like it because I get occasional insomnia and I like a dark room to sleep in. Yes it's dark but I have white dressers, white curtains and a light carpet, else it would be too dark overall. ![](http://surya.com/media/catalog/large/rugs/modern-classics/can1951/can1951-58.jpg) My duvet cover looks like this. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

I need to paint my bedroom, and I happen to need a new Duvet cover - so let's make this one big bedroom update extravaganza. What color is your bedroom? What feeling does it convey when you walk in? Why do you like it / not like it? Would you suggest the color to someone like me? The most relaxing bedroom I ever had was in a rental where my landlord let me paint to my tastes. I painted the walls Laurel Leaf green (Behr) and found a comforter set at Target that was goldish/green/burgundy. I found some burgundy curtains at Brylane Home that matched the burgundy in the comforter. The only thing that didn't work was the rug but I had planned on replacing that eventually - just never did before we moved. I also had burnished brass curtain rods and outlet covers. I loved that bedroom. It just felt so cozy to me. I'm hoping that now I'm moving to a rental with more neutral decor, I can recreate that feeling. My current place and one before had god-awful wall paper that couldn't be matched to anything I was willing to spend money as far as bedding goes. I have noticed lately that I real affection for the color burgundy. Its in my sofa, in my current bedding, the color of my kitchn rugs and towels, and I bought light blocking curtains for my bedroom in that color. I didn't intend to use it so much but I just seem to be drawn to it when shopping for home decor. ETA: I purchased the comforter set a year or so before I painted the bedroom so I guess that was my inspiration. I'd suggest doing the same, just make sure the wall color will work with other bedding down the road so you don't feel the need to paint everytime you want to buy new bedding. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)

Meghan - I have that duvet on my list. I saw it last week at Macy's and liked it.

I like the atlas one, but....white? Do you have animals/kids/clumsy husband? White in my house would be white for about 5 seconds.
