Double coupons paid off in a good way for me today at Meijer. I bought 8 single rolls of Bounty Durable paper towels and 8 jars of Mt. Olive dill pickle relish and spent a total of $.92 OOP and saved $16.00 using coupons. I gave a couple of each items to my neighbor and also to our local food pantry. I got a couple of the paper towels last week too and only spent $.07. For under a dollar, I was thrilled. Rite Aid has been having a few good monthly deals, the St. Joseph's aspirin like saveinla is doing. Last week I got 3 glucose meters for free after using coupons from the diabetic booklets and got $5.00 in UPs from each one. I got the sugar at WAGs today for free after using my giftcard. I have $.23 left on it. I don't know what the points or anything else means as I rarely go shopping there. Maybe I can burn the rest of it on a little can of tomato sauce when they have it on sale.
Dancin: Will your price book include the size and/or weight of your items? Everything seems to be shrinking except for the price.
I started planning my meals and posting it on the fridge. I haven't done that since my boys were little and it's helped a lot to see if or what I need at the stores. We go through an average of 50 meals a week and I've been trying to keep my budget at $50.00 or less. Last week I spent $35.00. I'm so thankful for my stockpile! I'm out of Franks Hot Sauce and at one time I had to give them away so they wouldn't expire. I got so many free but now, the coupons have shrunk in value and I will have to wait for a good sale.

As I am adding items, I list the item, the size, the price, and what I paid after coupons. I have pretty much always paid attention to the size of products. Unfortunately with some of them, there's not a whole lot you can do except to notice that you're getting less - like when Dawn went from 11 oz. to 10.3 oz. to 9.5 oz. and now 9.0 oz. and each time it shrunk the sales price stayed the same. I have always bought TP by the sq. ft., not by the roll. For me, however, my price book will consist primarily of food items since I will be buying few, if any, non-perishables for quite a while.

I got an offer in the mail for the city paper on Sundays for $1 a week for a year. It's a good price for the paper but I don't even know if it's worth it. I hardly use the Qs anymore since I buy more organic stuff. It's been nice to have a break from having to organize them. I didn't see an expiration date on the offer so maybe I'll think about. Although I have used several food coupons from the inserts over the years to stockpile items (peanut butter, jam, cereal, coffee, coffeemate, tea, sugar, soups, pasta sauce, pasta, pickles, chiles, applesauce, soda, condiments, candy, butter, etc.), my experience has been that the bread and butter in the inserts has always been the coupons for non-perishables. They are generally higher in value than the food coupons and the non-perishables are the basis for most drug chain rewards offers, but you usually need more than one coupon to do a deal.I never "organize" my coupons. I just date them and throw them on "the pile". When I make my shopping list, I clip them.

This has always been the name of the game. The retailers have set up the deals so that they FORCE people to buy more than just one of most items to get their reward. And then they act all hurt when they offer a Spend $30 P&G / Get $10 EBs (Limit 2) and you want to buy (10) Tide, especially when there's a $1.50/1 Tide coupon out!!

I got a deal on my local paper via Groupon a year ago. It was 0.50/week (prepaid) for 4 days: Wed (grocery ads), thur, Fri & Sun. Since the paper fouled up my delivery about 4-5 times over 3 months I MADE them extend the weeks so I am covered into April. Furthermore, as they are SOOO NOT together I suspect it will be a couple more weeks before my deliveries cease.
Generally the deals around here are the 4 day or Sun only for 0.99/week but they take your cc number and automatically charge you at regular rate after the limited time offer expires. I will NOT do that. The regular rate is blasted near the same as going to the corner and paying retail. NEVER!! At worst, I will just pick up the Sun paper at a place that discounts it to 1/2 off ($1).
It used to be the Sun paper came with a TV guide and a BIG book review section and the news was news, not a rehash of the week's news & years ago stuff. Now those 'specialty' sections require a sepoarate subscription EACH. Not worth it for me at the prices. It used to take me 4-5 hours to completly read the paper. Now it is barely 11/2-2 hours.

That is RIDICULOUS and what a hassle for the delivery person trying to keep straight what everyone should get. I think the uptick in people buying newspapers JUST for the coupons has really helped keep the newsprint business going over the last couple of years. I wonder what is going to happen now that it is getting harder and harder to buy multiple Sunday papers and make it pay off.

gin:If you send me a PM with your address, I can send you some of the ALL q's. dogmom:Same for you re the Rachel Ray dog food q's. Since my brain forgets from one minute to the next, please remind me in your messages which q's you want. HOUND ALERT:Did any of you get the Target q for $3/3 Tide, Downey etc. in last weeks inserts (3/3/13)? There was a matching regular man. q in the P&G insert that week, too. You can get the 34 ct. Downey sheets for $1.94 each at Target which would make them free after both $3 q's and give you a little overage at Target. If any of you have that Target q and won't be using it (some folks don't like dryer sheets), I would be happy to take them off your hands! I'm sure most of you are using yours but just thought I would ask. I was able to get 3 yesterday. Perfect timing because I just ran out of fabric softener!

Re the Sunday paper--actually the daily paper, too. One of my greatest joys since retiring is sitting down to read the paper with a cup of coffee. It just reinforces that I don't have to run off somewhere. And, of course, DH and I love to work on the crossword puzzles. I know we could order the online version, but it's just not the same. Plus, I'm not particularly fond of reading on a computer screen. After a working life spent on computers and other electronics, I just like the tactile feel of the newspaper. It's the same with books. I don't have a Kindle etc. because I just love the feel of books. Plus, as a good hound, I borrow mine for free from the library.

Well, I struck out on Zyrtec coupons here. The only ones I found at Wags and CVS are $4/1 40ct. or larger. If ANYONE finds the $3/1 any, I'd love some. I saw on iheartcvs that stores with a Minute Clinic have them in an allergy book and there are pics of the coupons. We don't have any here though. Decent MM on Banana Boat Sunscreen at RA this week. It is BOGO and gives a $5 Up, monthly deal, limit 4. There were tons of $2/1 hang tags, a few $3/1 hang tags I had from Wags, and I also had $3/1 peelies from some of those Schick bonus packs last year. So, the 9.99 Banana Boat are a good MM. You'll spend 9.99, minus any coupons you have, and get 2 $5 Ups back. They do only allow 1 coupon on a BOGO now, but still a good deal.

speaking of P&G....i had bought a venus & olay razor kit that was supposed to have the handle, holder & cartridge. when i opened it there wasn't any cartridge!! WTHeck!! i know i got it for super cheap but still whatever i spent was wasted. i tried calling the 800# but it was ALWAYS busy. so i went to the website & submitted a form about it. the same day i got an email saying that they would send a refund check or a coupon for free cartridges. since the cartridges are sold in 3 packs & cost more than that razor kit i said i'll take the coupon. we'll see what happens. warning: if you have bought the venus & olay razors (in gold packaging), you might check before you open for the cartridge & take it back or else call P&G. So the packaging said it was supposed to be in there and it was MIA? If that's the case it sounds like a quality control issue on the manufacturing line. P&G is usually pretty good; I'm thinking it was a fluke.....and in the end, it really worked out for you, with a little hassle, that is. dancin - it probably was a QC fluke, but those usually happen in batches. i'm pretty sure my package wasn't the only one without the cartridge. since i know many hounds here probably got that exact kit, i wanted to put the warning out in case they picked up one from the same batch as mine. i guess it's really a lesson in checking all the razor packs picked up along the way.

I'd like it if I could still find some of those hangtags and whatnot. I had a couple but they expired 12/31. I did print 2 $1/1 from FB, but the higher the value the better. I'd like to max out the sunscreen deal this week so I can roll my UPs next week week after next. I'd like to do the listerine deal, which won't be anywhere near MM but I'm on my last bottle, and the schick razor deal which should be a nice MM to make up for it.

Fun at Shoprite today - cats generated for about 10% off next purchase, so $3/$30, $5/$50, etc. A woman gave me one of the $5 off, and I used it on purchases that included cabbage at .07/lb and 4 boxes Kashi Go-Lean for $4.96, less $1 each box from a peelie for fruit. 8 bottles Purex (32 load) @ 1.99 ea, gave $5 off next purchase. Free 1.25 liter Coke Zero. .67 / Green Giant canned vegetable

I was able to get Fuji apples for $.50/lb. today. I haven't seen them at that price in over 2 years. I was also able to pick up 3 lb. bags of Cuties for $2.47 after $.50/1 Q. I am thrilled when I can get fresh fruit for a good price.

murpath I, too, porefer real print for reading just about everything. Reading the daily/Sun paper over coffee in the yard (in good weather) is something I have always LOVED. However, I am finding the paper has become just a rehash of old news. No/few investigations. Poor story follow up. Needing extra subscriptions (at MUCH higher ADDED cost) for special (formerly included) sections does have me questioning if I will continue.
Dancin Cuties have been $3/3lb or $5/5lb here most of the season. Just went up in the last week or 2. Also, I remember when that coupon was $1 (last year) so NOT too happy with just 0.50.

dogmom and gin1984: Your envies are on the way.
Dancinmama: Got your envie. Thanks so much. Where did you get the Fujis and Cuties? One of your smaller, independent stores? We don't have any of those, I'm afraid. Oh well... My dentist has a great Fuji apple tree but I didn't time my checkout correctly this year. They were all gone by the time I went in. They actually encourage everyone to go out and pick them because there are too many for them to eat.

We had a small celebration last night at Flemings restaurant in Walnut Creek. They have a great happy hour: $6 for a glass of champagne, wine, etc. Beer is $3. Their cheeseburger is to die for: $6 as well. You have to get there at 5 when they open or you won't get a booth nor bar stool. You might have one near you as it's a national chain, I believe.
In any event, we were celebrating our DD2's news: she finally learned that she "matched" for her anesthesiology residency. She won't know where until Friday. This has been such a grueling process. The poor thing was so relieved that she just broke down and cried. She'd been accepted to be interviewed at 10 different programs all over the country. I felt like I spent a lot of time dropping off and picking up at the San Francisco airport. Just to give you some perspective, a teaching hospital might have 15 residency spots for that specialty and they will interview 150-200 candidates. The interviews themselves are an all day process of group interviews, individual interviews with several different committee members, etc.. You then rank the programs in order of preference. They rank their top 20 or so as well. The computer finds the closest match to your rankings; i.e. if her #1 ranked her #15, that's a match even if her #2 ranked her #2. If you don't match at all, then you have to do a "scramble application" where the computer tries to match you with a program that is not yet full. Depending on your specialty, that sometimes does not work very well. But she received the four most wonderful words, "Congratulation, you have a match!" Such a relief. Just had to share with my cyber buddies! We're keeping our fingers crossed that she gets her #1 choice: Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Any Baltimore area hounds out there?

After coupons it was 6.99 and I got the $5 OYNO cat also. So 0.39 cents each after the cat. and the best part is this deal rolls according to some LRWC posters.

One of DD's friends from high school finished med school and went through the process. She got her first choice(unusual she said) at Pittsburgh for a 6 year Pediatric Neurology program. She's in the 2nd year....very challenging.

Congratulations to your daughter....another hurdle in her medical education. One of DD's friends from high school finished med school and went through the process. I just read (Mashup Mom site) There is a deal of the day for CVS, $2/$10. If you were headed over there today, you may want to take advantage? Already gone for today *le sigh*

dogmom and gin1984: Your envies are on the way. I got them at a Mexican market called Arteagas. I look at their produce sales every week. That's about all I ever buy at the ethnic markets. Fujis are my fav apple, so I was sooo glad to have gotten them. The new ads come today and I'm hoping for some deals on fresh veggies.

Already gone for today *le sigh* Although that's the best Tuesday Deal of the Day that they've offered in weeks, I still wasn't interested. There is just nothing I need badly enough right now to deal with spending OOP and getting EBs that I have to do something with. As it is, I have last week's EB for the jelly beans that I will roll into this week's jelly beans (for my Easter dinner centerpiece basket). I'll burn that EB in the same day and then don't plan to go back until they have a decent deal on soda.
