On behalf of all of the gals here, WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - 973Beach!!! If you have never clipped a coupon, or even if you have been using coupons for years, we'd love to have you join us. We are a crazy, fun-loving, and very friendly group of gals just chatting with one another about how to save big money using coupons. We are willing to help anyone, at any level, in any way that we can. Don't think that you have to read through the pages and pages of posts to join in - most of it will be old, out-of-date information anyway. Just go to the last page of the thread and introduce yourself. Tell us what area of the country you're from and where you shop (grocery stores, national chain stores, Target, WalMart, etc.). We'd love to have you join us on a regular basis, so don't be shy - just jump right in, have some fun, and save a ton of money in the process!! He, He, He. I never started the thread before.

Dancin:
Saw your response re lack of sleep. Try melatonin--it works pretty well for me. I can usually get between 6-7 hours. My problem is going to bed at @ 11, sleep a couple hours and then wake up. Can't fall back to sleep until @ 4 a.m.. The melatonin has changed that for me.

Happy New Year ladies. Hope everyone has a wonderful year ahead.
CVS Qs - I get 4/20 email coupons every other week or whenever I don't get the percentage off Qs and there is no wording on them about not being valid on sale items. I am not sure about the scanner Qs though.

I responded on the December page so I thought I would recap here:
Happy New Year, Everybody!
Yes, I got a survey by e-mail but didn't do it since it didn't offer me any ECB to do it.
No, my $4/20 I got at the same time via e-mail did not exclude sale or promotional items, but I don't know about CRTs.
If you need high quality hand/body lotion there are a couple of deals coming up at CVS for Aveeno:
12/30 ad Buy 2 Aveeno @ $4.99 / Get a $6 EB (Limit 1) $9.98 (2) Aveeno (12 oz. pump) -3.00 (1) $3/2 Aveeno (10/28 SS) EXPIRES 12/31/12 $6.98 I have $7 in EBs that I will use $0 --> $6EB (Aveeno)
1/6 ad Buy ANY (2) Aveeno / Get a $6 EB (Limit 6) This is what I plan to do: $8.94 (6) Aveeno Trial Size $1.00 Filler $9.94 -10.00 EB (adjusted down) $0 + tax --> $18EB (Aveeno) rinse and repeat to reach the limit We love those little bottles of Aveeno. We always keep lotion in the car and these don't take up too much space.
Question: Is the $18 ECB you'll get from just that transaction or from the combo with the 12/30 transaction? I didn't do the first one but I could do the second with my free GC from Swagbucks.

Question: Is the $18 ECB you'll get from just that transaction or from the combo with the 12/30 transaction? I didn't do the first one but I could do the second with my free GC from Swagbucks. It turns out that this week's Aveeno deal is tracking as the monthly Curel deal (Limit 6). So for every (2) Aveeno that you buy in the month of January you will get a $6EB. Even though this week's deal and next week's deal have different event codes, it won't matter. If you bought (2) this week, you'd only have (10) left for the entire month. Does that make sense? Next week the ad says ANY, but if I decide to do it, I'm going to wait to see if the EBs are actually printing for the travel size before I try it. They should since the ad says ALL Aveeno. So technically you could buy (12) @ $1.49 ea., pay a little under $18 + tax in OOP and get a $36EB. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I went in today to get a rain check cuz I wanted the option of buying Aveeno at the $4.99 price later in the month and get the $6EB, and today they did have the Curel tagged for the monthly deal. In hopes of them including an event code for the EBs on the rain check, I showed them my receipt from the purchase of my second set of Aveeno and I showed them how it was tracking at the bottom of my receipt as Curel. Neither the cashier or the AM on duty wanted to write the rain check and include the EBs. So I asked for a rain check just for the sales price and the AM tried to say that I had already reached my limit. I reminded her that the limit only applied to the EBs; that I could still buy more at the sales price if I chose, even if I wasn't going to get the EBs. Okay, then she decided that it was okay for the cashier to write the rain check, but without the EBs. That was fine. After the cashier wrote the rain check I walked her to the shelf where the Curel was tagged and showed it to her. Up to that point I don't think she really believed me or realized that there was a monthly promotion, but she did then. We had a little "discussion" about the "tone" in the store (which, quite frankly, she has been a part of). I told her that if it continued I simply wasn't going to shop there anymore and she quickly said, "Oh no. Don't do that. We need the business." For a store that needs my business, they sure have an odd way of showing it. Then she admitted to me that if she had a choice, "she wouldn't come back to the store either." In other words, she's not a happy employee. Geez, I couldn't tell.

My problem will likely be finding the travel size ones. I'd better go scope them out in advance and maybe put a few aside for myself. I could use a nice MM. Geez, they really are giving you a hard time at your store, aren't they? Glad you're letting them know that it's not cool.

I guess I'll write down the new web address and I hope to figure it out when it changes. As I've always said, I'm "tech challenged". If I can't figure it out, maybe DH can. But don't tell him that I said that he's not that far behind me.

Glad you're letting them know that it's not cool. Yep, it's like I went in one day and even though the employees were all the same, I didn't recognize a single one anymore. The store went from "bend-over-backwards, awesome customer service to no customer service at all", almost overnight. In mid-Dec an "incident" occurred that "did it" and I called CS and "lowered the boom". I got a call from the SM late last week regarding that call and the DM's follow-up call just yesterday. At one point today with regard to the rain check, the AM suggested today that I call CS. Apparently she didn't "get the memo" cuz I am 100% sure that neither the store manager nor the DM want me calling CS for ANY reason ever again. Coincidentally, I have been working on a exit strategy this year "just in case". I couldn't see why CVS would continue to give us so many "tools" that allow us to continue rolling week in and week out for free, especially now in light of the changes at WAGs. It never occurred to me that poor customer service would make me "want to stop" shopping there voluntarily....and now I'm ready to "put my EBs......uhm, my money where my mouth is". I'm not getting any $/$$ which are what have allowed me to roll for low or no OOP and the CVS cash card deals are upon us. As far as I'm concerned, the timing could not be more perfect.

rubyslippers: Did you get your rain check for the lotion deal (I assume you wanted it on the Aveeno)?

HOUND ALERT: $2/1 Duracell Copper Top (12/9 RP)
DH told me we need 9V batteries and they are part of the 1/13 CVS cash card deal. My inserts only had a $.50/1.
If anyone has 2 or even more to share, I sure would appreciate it.
TIA

I want to try next week's deal with the travel size Aveeno but I hate the thought of buying 10 of them and then the deal wouldn't work. I guess I could buy 2 and see what happens.

There are some gals on WUC who have early activation who will probably be trying to do this deal. If they post that it is successful, then I will come and post it here. In any case, the ad does say ANY so you would be entitled to have them force print the EB or would have cause to do a return. Personally because of the ambiance at my CVS, I try to avoid that type of thing; but it may be no big deal for you.

I plan on going the day before when they activate their sales for the following week. I too am planning an exit strategy. If all goes as I hope, I would be increasing my rewards enough where I can stockpile Dove soap. I am getting really low and I see that it will be on sale. I need to take a break from CVS and will just concentrate on Rite Aid unless there's a really, really good deal coming up.

Dancin- I also got the CVS email questionnaire after calling to complain about a major issue. I just used a $4 off $20 purchase on Sunday that did not exclude sale items; in fact, I used it for the 2 Aveeno, which were both on sale and gave the EB. And, I just sent that receipt in for the Allure offer - thank you for the info!! I also received mine via email, not a CRT. I got a $10 off $50 on EVERY single receipt through around 12/20 -- even when I'd buy a prescription at the pharmacy, and then make a separate purchase at the regular cashier, I'd get 2 that day. They have stopped for me also. I only every used one, though, and never again. However, I'd be very happy if I started getting the $4 off $20 frequently! In my less-coupon-friendly-than-they-used-to-be CVS stores, I had a hard time getting to $50...it's a lot easier to just have to get to $20. Thanks so much for the info. I wondered if that was why I got the survey. Normally I would have just ignored it, but when I saw what it was for (my most recent trip to the store) and since the graveyard supervisor was rude on that trip (just ignored me when he saw me instead of greeting me), I decided that it might be worth the time to take it. There is no reason for any cashier to be rude to dancinmama!! So you only used ONE $10/$50, but kept getting them? Well that blows my theory about why those of us who kept getting them did. I wish we had a secret insider that could tell us how they determine who gets what. I was almost certain that the computer was targeting those of us who were using them. Obviously, there had to be a rhyme or reason as to who got them; we'll just never know what it was. I was so lucky to have used almost all that they gave me. I had to let a couple of them go, but only because they were of no benefit to me before they expired. I never allow myself to be "pushed" to use a coupon just because I have it....well, except for a reward coupon that's going to expire. EDIT: I copied/pasted this from the December thread. I didn't realize where I was.

Even if I burn the UPs, I have "lost" anything.

Then it was 5:00 on Saturday. Then it was 9:00 on Saturday. Now they no longer do early activation at all. Midnight is the earliest that I can do a deal and due to lack of stock, I found myself having to shop there at that time quite frequently, especially when I had $10/$50s to use. I wasn't going to do a midnight run for the Aveeno deal, but I found out about the limit increase at about 11:53 pm and I knew what stock was like at my store, so I threw on my clothes and was out the door. Geez, I sure won't miss that!! I am hoping to buy the Duracell batteries on 1/13 to help me convert to GCs and cash out. DH told me he needs 9V and the Duracell seems to have pretty long expiration dates these days - the last ones I bought show they expire in 2017, so I'll stockpile a variety of sizes. It is an item that I didn't have on my list, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a few extra around. I doubt that I can get completely out that week, but I ought to make a pretty big dent in it. ;D

I think it will be a huge YMMV if they will allow the $6 EB on the trial size. I don't remember doing it last year, but maybe 2 years ago and it DID NOT print for the trial size. And often, even if it does print early in the week, it will usually get killed pretty quick when they realize it. I doubt I will bother. Also, keep in mind that if you do multiples of this deal, you will end up with a VERY large EB. Some people do not like to have big EB's as they are harder to roll. I got an $18 EB Monday when I did the Aveeno deal (bought 6), but I was using a 10/50 and am rolling them into the Spend 30, get 10 cash card on Diet Coke next week, so, an $18 EB was perfect as that will be my OOP after Q's.

I was thinking the same thing about the large EB, but with the cash card deals coming up, it should be pretty easy to it. If you have a friendly store and the EBs don't print for the deal and they won't force them, you would have every right to do an immediate return to exchange the EBs you spent on OOP for a money card, so in a way it's a win/win. I'm seriously considering it even though my store is now VERY unfriendly. If they run out, I'll get a rain check and use it down the line with a friendly cashier....somewhere....probably at a different store. Again if they won't force print, I'll just do an immediate return for a money card. It might be a great way for me to cash out after the cash out any remaining EBs that I have left over after the cash card deals.

That's what I will do too. Even without the Aveeno deal, I'll be able to pick up some of the soap that I want.
I stopped in at Krogers today and bought 10 cans of diced tomatoes Red Gold brand for $.59 a can. There were blinkie Q's for $1.00/2 cans. So I ended up getting 10 cans for $.90 OOP. And I got a raincheck and enough coupons to do it again when they get more stock.
I sent in my Aveeno rebate today and my last Rite Aid SCR. So far, I haven't seen too many really good deals there. I burned some UPs on items I needed.

Dancinmama or anyone else -- what is the Curel deal at CVS? I don't see anything in my flyer. I am also looking to stockpile lotion as the winter here is so dry and I have some Curel coupons that will be expiring next week. Thanks in advance!

For those doing the Aveeno deal at CVS, be on the lookout for the "cooling" variety in a big tube. Grabbed one today and it was NOT marked clearance but rang up 2.48 AND I got the EB's. I went back to look for more but it was the last one . I'll be checking other stores though. HOUND ALERT: Looks like the high value Finish dishwasher detergent coupon is coming this weekend. It is supposed to be 2.15/1. I'm getting low and would like to get a few of these Q's if anyone ends up with extra. TIA, we rarely get it at all in my paper.

I am also looking to stockpile lotion as the winter here is so dry and I have some Curel coupons that will be expiring next week. Thanks in advance! It is a monthly deal. Buy (2), I'm not sure of the size(s) and get a $6 EB. The limit for the month is (6), but the Aveeno deal is tracking to this so take that into consideration. There are also several great lotions that are on clearance that also might be a great deal: Lubriderm, Carmex, Dial Nutri-Skin, Eucerin, etc. In addition, the Aveeno this week is $4.99 / Buy 2 and get a $6 EB. If you buy (2) after a $3/2 coupon and the EB, the cost is $.50/ea. I bought the 12 oz. pumps. HTH

Hopefully I'll remember if I get extra inserts. I'm afraid all the couponers might scoop them up this weekend.

I know that this is waaaaay out there, but:
HOUND ALERT: Purina One Beyond Cat Food Free 16 oz. (1/13 RP)
I am down to my last bag of kibble for Milo the Lizard Slayer. I will post a repeat late next week, but please keep me in mind if you get these and have no kitty. I would love, love, love to rebuild my kitty kibble stockpile.

Rite Aid Questions: I have done little shopping there since the new rules so just to confirm: 1. You can use printed Up rewards from any card on any other card 2. You can use a reward from one deal to buy more of the same deal
I bought one Tom's of Maine toothpaste and one 2-pk soap today. The limit is 4 so I'd like to buy two more tomorrow, then two more and two more on DHs card. I'd like to use my rewards to buy more of the same stuff. Here's another question. I bought two items, it says limit 4, but at the bottom of my receipt, it says "offer limit reached."
3. What the heck??? On a previous occasion, the 2-pk of soap counted as two items, but if that were the case, it would say I'd used 3 out of 4, so that still doesn't make sense.

The printed limit is not correct in RA if you have not finished it. So go ahead and track it yourself and buy 2 more.
