I would like to join as well. I had baby boy#2 in April 2011 and by December 2011 I was actually down to about 140 pounds due to nursing and Zumba. Pre baby weight was around 165 so that was awesome - people actually noticed that I lost weight and I hadn't weighed less since middle school. I then seemed to hit a plateau as time went on and nursing stopped. Last year I kept the zumba up, except in November and December, and I ate tons of food during the holidays, so I am currently around 145. My goal is to lose another 10 pounds so I can finally say my BMI is "normal" and I can get the wii fit to show my mii as normal, lol. (I'm 5'3")
I also just started working full time (was previously working only three days per week) and am actually in the same town as my DH a few days a week so we are eating lunch together - and he eats fast food for lunch all the time. So I don't know how that's going to work out. I think I will try to only drink soda once per week and not have seconds on dinner or dessert anymore. I'll keep doing zumba twice a week. And I want to try to fit in some sort of exercise on Saturday. Does netflix have any exercise programs?

I'd like to join this thread. My highest weight ever was 282, but my excuse was that I was pregnant (and all in all I was very good about not gaining much weight during the pregnancy - according to the doctors records I only gained 12 lbs, but according to mine - which is what I'm counting - I gained 19 lbs). Being only 5'4 and that close to 300 lbs is just atrocious. Thankfully though I've lost all the baby weight and then some and am now down another 8* lbs. (*ETF - that WAS a typo. I meant 8, not 18. I WISH it was another 18 lbs already!)
So I guess my starting weight is 255 lbs. 1) My main goal is to get back down to 200 lbs. 2) Other goals include: drinking lots of water (not only for my health, but doubly so for my daughter since I'm breast-feeding) 3) Eat healthier in general (I am being purposefully vague here - every time I choose a piece of celery over a piece of chocolate is a victory, but with stringent rules I'd break them quickly and give up on them. On the plus side there are many vegetables and many fish I couldn't stomach while pregnant that I look forward to eating again.) 4) Start back up with weight and resistance training.
Last time I was eating somewhat healthy, and working out regularly and was 200 lbs I was also a smoking size 8. (That's not a typo, not 18, size 8. I was made to be tight and firm, but I let myself go.)
To help achieve these goals 1) I weigh in weekly, but only Saturday mornings so that I don't obsess about my weight constantly. 2) DH and I keep a bottle or two of water (reusable bottle that is) on the headboard of our bed in order to encourage us both to drink more water. 3) I am in charge of the grocery shopping for our family. Also we have a rule that everyone MUST have one piece of fruit a day (we found it to be the most neglected food group), and when there are multiple options they have to have a different fruit after 2 days. I.e. if we have apples, oranges, bananas, and peaches then one can not have an apple 3 days in a row). 4) I have a ridiculous collection of work out DVDs and all of my exercise equipment out in our front room. Also I'm joining this thread.
I apologize for being so long-winded, it's simply my nature. I can try to be more concise in the future if preferred.

Welcome newbies!! You both sound motivated!!
I went for a half-hour walk with the babies today. I figure pushing a stroller for 30 minutes counts as a workout. I definitely was sweating by the end, and it was pretty cold out.
Week 2: 1/5 workouts
I'll do 30 Day Shred tomorrow. I just needed a day to recover after Week 1.
Now to go track my food for the day!

Welcome! And don't worry about being long-winded EoG. ;D I weighed in this morning - 198.0 woohoo! I didn't treadmill last night but I did work on the living room so I was shoving furniture around and sweeping. And sweeping. And sweeping. Did I mention that I swept the floor? Every time I moved something, more dirt appeared. I've been working on portion sizes this week. Didn't start out that way but somehow it turned into that. I've decided I can eat all the salad I want but everything else needs to be less than it used to be. <Beth goes off to check on the tag update stuff yet again.> Wisconsin Beth 198.0 1/10/13 (201.5 1/3/13) Is that right?

Beth - great job! And yes, your line is correct. That must feel great! Well, it does feel good. But it's also just the start. So it doesn't feel THAT good, you know? And I've got a long way to go. So baby steps, the start of a journey begins with the first step, blah blah blah. I really want to be able to fit into more of my pants. My khakis aren't even remotely possible. And my jeans were a no-go last weekend when I tried.

Man I feel frustrated today - I WANT to do an exercise DVD, but I can't do anything that vigorous until I see the doctor and get cleared. And they won't see me before the 24th. I tried to get in sooner, there are a LOT of things I want to do that I can't get back to until they clear me - but they were pretty adamant that it HAS to be 6 weeks after giving birth, no sooner. *sigh* If I could find our hand weights I could at least do that, but no go on that. I'd hope to get a walk in when my mother comes over this afternoon, but she'll lecture me about taking the baby out in the cold too much. I'd also love to go to the Y with my DH tonight, especially if I could go swimming - but I can't. Baby girl can't hold her head up, so no water for us, and even if she could get in the water with me I wouldn't be able to swim laps with her. There's just no winning.

Does your Y do child care/infant care? Would you be able to leave her there for 30 minutes of laps and then wear her while walking on the track?

Elusions - Reading your info, we are about the same size, tho I am 5'7". I would like to get to 200 because I would like to try for another baby at the end of this year/beginning of next. Its nice to have another person at the same starting weight as me, since it is sometimes hard to relate to people that don't have as much to lose. Congratulations at starting this journey I'll be interested in hearing your progress over the year.

EoG - there's good reason why you need to wait the 6 weeks before vigorous exercise. I made myself REALLY sick and start bleeding again when I tried after 4 weeks. It is really not worth it!! Wearing her while walking would be a great idea though. For weights, just get some canned goods. They are usually 1-1.5lbs each. That's what I use for the 30DS videos.

I've been using a pedometer and I'm finding it really motivational to get my 10,000 steps in. I'm down four lbs in the last week but I'm thinking a lot of that was bloat. It's the next few weeks that are going to be tough.

anne - I need to find my pedometer. I stopped using it last year when I got preggo. Or I stopped checking it at least. I think it's in my purse. Probably has a million steps logged lol.
I did 30 Day Shred today. My fourth time doing it, I think.
Week 2: 2/5
I had a hankering for Wendy's today, but I got the broccoli and cheese baked potato instead of bacon, cheese and sour cream. Woo! Small victories... I also just had one serving of dinner. I'm hungry again though, but I will hold off on my evening snack as long as I can.

Sam - I know it's a bad idea to exercise vigorously. Just like it's a bad idea to return to *ahem* 'normal activities' with DH. But that doesn't mean I'm not frustrated about that. When I came home from the hospital, despite being told to rest, we hosted all of my in-laws except for Dh's parents for two days and I spent a good 6 hours deep cleaning the house upon my arrival. I bled like crazy for the next few days and had abdominal cramps close to labor pain for a half a week following that. Just knowing I need to follow the advice doesn't make it easy to do. Similar to how knowing I need to lose weight and eat better doesn't make DOING it any easier. Ya know?
nuttin - It is fantastic to have someone close in size to start with! Here's hoping we'll both be at 200 by the end of the year. And who knows maybe both be pregnant too! (I'm back and forth on whether or not I want a second. Right now I'm "on." I know it's driving DH mad.)
Beth - That is a wonderful idea! I have yet to open our baby ergo, but I should do so this weekend and start practicing with it. I just have to find out what times the Y does child-care. I know they have a room for it, and it looks like fun, but I have NEVER seen it occupied.

EoG - I love my Ergo!! I had DD in it for hours yesterday because she was so ornery and it was the only way she'd nap. Feeling it today!
I'm also feeling pain in my elbows, I'm guessing from the pushups in 30 Day Shred. Might have to take today off and maybe do pilates instead. We'll see.

red - I'm sorry your elbows hurt. Hopefully you don't get tennis elbow from the DVD workout. I think once I am cleared to exercise again I should make it a goal to go through every one of my work out DVDs at least once. Your comment about doing pilates instead of the 30 Day Shred gave me that idea, so thanks.

so i was supposed to check in on Wednesday...a couple of days late but it's been an AWEFUL week at work so message boards haven't been at the top of my radar.
jdnstl 237 lbs 1/9/13 (240 lbs 1/3/13)....3 down!! WOOT! WOOT!
also, i completed all 5 workout days last week, & i'm at 2/5 this week. i'm going to the Y in about 10 minutes so i'm gonna bump that to 3/5.
i want to encourage everyone that even if you have a little setback, it's OK. life happens & we pick ourselves up & move forward. i'm glad to see all the newbies & hope this thread continues to thrive like this for the rest of the year.
TGIF!! until next time...

Never got in my workout yesterday, and doubt I will today, so these will be my two days off. Hoping my elbow is better tomorrow...
BUT I weighed in today and I'm down 5.6!!

That's awesome, red! Congrats!
I meant to weigh in this morning so I could report tonight. Unfortunately, I forgot to do so. I'm a little worried that the scale tomorrow will say I'm up since I've been non-top hungry the last few days. Then again, I AM nursing.

Forgot to pop in and enter my weight on Wednesday, so here it is:
Banker Gurl 1/9/13 175.5 (1/1/13 179.5lbs) Down 4lbs in one week!
Super excited about that! However since Wednesday I haven't been doing too great. Yesterday I had Chinese food AND pizza AND beer (?!?!?). DUMB. Working out had been going "ok". I do good when I am there, but I feel soooo tired lately and have been sleeping a lot of hours and napping. I think it is a cold weather/not used to working out/too much OT combo that is making me feel sluggish. My goal for this weeks weighin is just not to have gained. I was 3rd out of 7 for the BL, I lost 4, but another person lost 5 and another lost 7! It is based on % lost, but I still came in behind those other two. I am for sure going to the gym sometime today (mostly to avoid having to watch football ALLLL day!) and then Monday/Wed/Friday.

I need to do better about checking in. I am down 3lbs. For now I am setting my goal at 5lbs a month. Hopefully I will lose more but for now I need to make a goal that is fairly attainable. We got DD moved into her apt yesterday so that will hopefully be one less stress point in my life. I don't have to worry about her commuting to college and worry about all the tears and unhappiness that she had in her previous living arrangement. The wedding plans are progressing. I can see that will be a year long stress point. While I hoping that because we had a year it would be less stressful because we could chunk things out but I don't see that happening. If I can lose 5lbs a month I would be down 60lbs for the wedding. While I would like to be down more that would be a huge loss for me and I would take it.

Haven't eaten too great the past day but I am trying! Hard when we have visitors. Plus the weather is so dreary I just want to curl up and veg. Will get back on track tomorrow!
Keep it up everyone! Great seeing all these losses getting posted!

I really need to get serious about my exercise and diet routine. I am not overweight just extremely flabby. I just ordered the 30 Day Shred dvd and hope that motivates me. I guess I am just making some excuses but some have not been excuses - pinched nerve in my ankle, sprained wrist and chronic fatigue syndrome - all in the last several months. Sheesh!

I've been reading this site since 01/01 and find you all very encouraging support. It's nice to have others that need to loose several pounds to reach 200 also. I work with several people that are always on a diet or complaining about it when they actually weigh less than my personal goal weight. I would like to join this thread. I actually started my "life change" diet on 01/02, so I would like to use that date and weight for my tag line if that is acceptable. My weigh-in day is every Wednesday, so here is my tag line as of last Wed. Sockeymom 1/9/13 254.0 (1/2/13 260.0lbs)

I plan on walking on my treadmill, using my gazelle, and my stepper. How do you like your gazelle ? Sorry, I somehow missed this post. I love my gazelle. I just can't do it as vigorous as I would like. I can only do short strides on it or else my hips get out of whack. But it is still enough to know that I have exercised. And it also exercises the arms and stomach.

count me in for this year, I've participated in the past, but I'm actually finally of the right frame of mind now. I'm a week in to a "Biggest Loser" sort of race with some friends - a 6 week challenge, since many of us will be on the same cruise the last week of Feb. I've given up dairy for the challenge, as a reaction to some results my sis has seen in doing the same for a medical reason - while she hasn't seen a more marked difference in pounds, she is a lot flatter in the tummy. as an athletic woman, I know that what the scale says isn't a very accurate depiction of my overall health. I'm aiming to lose the fat layer and then tone. losing the tummy bloat is an added bonus I'm going to use my challenge start date/weight in here too. 1st challenge weigh-in is tomorrow, I'll update then chiver78 (1/7/13 214.0lbs) ETA: new tagline. ;D chiver78 1/14/13 212.0lbs (1/7/13 214.0lbs)

<Beth looks at her tummy, looks at her tea with milk in it and decides she's not willing to give up milk in her tea at this point. Or cheese.> Overall the weekend was up and down. I was PMSing and until I ate 1/2 a bag of M&Ms, was a raging bitch. I don't know if it was the chocolate or having a chance to lay on the couch while the kids, in theory, were napping in their rooms (they came out a LOT) or a combo of both. But I could FEEL the roughest edge smoothing out while I ate the M&Ms. Ate a lot of pizza this weekend and tried, more or less, to eat reasonable amounts of it. Drank a lot of Friday night (DH and I went out) and had 1 beer on Sat night while the Packers lost and 2 at the Admirals game on Sunday night. I did at least 3 laps of the 2nd level of the Bradley Center last night though. Keira wanted to see the mascot and give him a hug and we kept missing him. Finally caught up with him in the 3rd period. I didn't get to watch much hockey but the suite was awesome. And hanging out with my family smoothed a bunch more of the edges. I also held/carried Keira a bunch because she wanted it. She's 45 lbs or so. And we danced some too. So I did get a workout of sorts in.

beth, it's definitely a challenge. I would probably stab someone if they waved a slice of pizza in my face right now, but in just a week I am amazed at how difficult it's been for me to eat all the calories that MyFitnessPal says I should be eating in a day when I don't include dairy. at the very least, it's an eye-opener for me after the "race" is over.
I can honestly say that I will not be dairy-free for life, but I do like some of the tweaks I've made. Silk light soy milk in my AM coffee, for example. very tasty, and the soy milk lasts a lot longer. I will probably just keep buying that, and only buy regular milk when I need to cook with it.
