Next triathlon a week away. Four times over one of the state's highest fixed bridges (65 feet at its highest point). I've done my work and I hope it pays off. I'll ride tomorrow, and run Monday, then it's taper-down time.

I am about to spend a small fortune in race fees. I signed up for the Chicago marathon, so now I need to sign up for the Rock and roll half in July. I'm mostly trained for that already, and having a race to train for (earlier than the October marathon) will give me some much needed motivation. Then my DH wants to sign up for a 5k that's the week after the half, and then I promised my boss I'd run a 15k at the end of October (yes 3 weeks after the marathon) "with" her. By with I mean we will both run not together with our headphones in and I'll wait for her at the finish to cheer her on But I'm excited for all of it, so that must mean I'm making the right choice. Right??

Right?? Yes! Consider them an investment in your health. And if the races are for nonprofits raising money, you could check with your accountant to see if they are a write off as a charitable contribution. It's a bit of a gray area; I've been able to write off a few that way. I'm jealous of Chicago; I cannot really travel much this year, owing to having a new job. I am starting to fill up the rest of this year as well as looking at next year, though. September has two triathlons, October has a 10K, November has a 10K and a triathlon a week apart and December has the senior games weekend.

Go my first ever first place in a triathlon yesterday. Broke a toe at the start (it looks a bit better today, but still swollen and purple). DH wanted to know why I finished the event with a broken toe - didn't it hurt, etc.?
Funny how the endorphin effect kicks in and you feel no pain until you quit moving. Today, my quads are sore (there were four bridge crossings in this event) and of course the toe, but aside from that, no real issues.

Congrats Nancy! Obviously your husband doesn't "get" runners/triathletes. Lol.
Hip arthrogram scheduled for June 30! Woo hoo?

I've spent the week doing a little less in terms of workouts, and I have a swim meet next weekend. Then no competing in July or August. Still training, just not competing for two months. My holiday break, so to speak.

I'm in the thick of training for a 1/2 marathon in July and the full in October. WHY did Chicago decide to skip spring this year and go right into summer? Training in this hot, humid mess is awful. Why did I sign up to run these races again??!

I just signed up for one next March.

Especially since we would stay in a "race" hotel instead of driving in from Lakeland. However, that means training in less than ideal weather and, if it's anything like it was in 2014, running it in 85 degrees and 85% humidity! Good luck on your March half!!

I haven't run since October when I had bleeding during my first trimester.
Yesterday was my 6 week postpartum check up and I was cleared for activity.
Ran a mile last night and almost died. Haha. 1 mile. I'm carrying an extra 15 pounds and my legs and lungs could feel it. It took me 13:30 to run it. God I'm out of shape!

It's amazing how extended time off just kills any cardiovascular capacity/muscle memory.

Ugh! I was supposed to have my arthrogram and MRI today, but the fluoroscope in the radiology department was on the fritz. I could have come back once the one in the OR was available (I work directly across the street from Penn Radiology, so it wouldn't be a big deal for me), but the MRI staff/machine was booked for the rest of the day. So I'm rescheduled for July 14. Argh! I just want to be done with everything! I want to know if I do in fact have a labral tear and if I'm a candidate for surgery.

Waiting is the worst!! Just tell me already! You wouldn't think wait times would be so bad in a larger city.

Getting my race calendar in gear for the rest of the year, and started training for my 3/5/17 half-marathon. Did six miles in 80 degree-plus heat yesterday. And that was the predawn temperature.

I raced my half marathon, halfway to a marathon training run today. And, *drum roll please*, I set a personal best! I ran it in 1:59:08. That beats my previous fastest time by 6 minutes!! Holy God! Who knew I could run so fast?!?!? My DH was asking me yesterday if I was running this as a race or a training run and I told him it would depend on my finishing time. Welp, it was good enough that I'm calling it a race. Except, shockingly, it didn't feel hard. It felt like the weather, my nutrition, my sleep, and my training lined up perfectly and I just ran. I enjoyed all but the last half mile where I super pushed it b/c I knew then I was going to break 2 hours. Anyway, I'm super pumped about it. I expect to run this year's marathon faster than last year's, but not set any sort of speed records. This is definitely going to motivate me to keep training properly for October.

Awesome job, flamingo! I did 2.5 miles tonight. This getting back into running after sitting around for 10 months and gaining 44 pounds is tough! I'm under 12 minutes/mile now, which isn't where I want to be, but being that I'm out of shape and it's so darn hot and humid here, I'll take it.

Hoping to get my MRI results today. Got the arthrogram on Thursday. Hurt for a couple of days after!

Labrum tear confirmed. Womp womp.
But, that could be a good thing! Now that I know I can meet with a surgeon and if I get the surgery then I would be back running at some point in the winter.

Hubs did his first Olympic tri this morning. Did it in 2 hours and 56 minutes! He has had almost no time to train and it was disgustingly hot and humid. It was 81 degrees when we left at 4:30 this morning. It was awful! But he did awesome!
Met with the surgeon on Friday. I am getting a corticosteroid injection in my hip on Thursday and then I am starting 6 weeks of PT to strengthen the muscles around my hip, then we will schedule surgery. Happy to have a plan!

Boo to surgery but at least you know and are planning. Speaking of which...my results came back on my two biopsies the dermatologist did. One was fine, the other...not so much. There are some skin cells that need to be removed. Not precancerous, but the doctor is afraid that left to regenerate, the mole she removed will return as malignant. So I am scheduled for an excision on Dec. 5. The surgery requires suturing, so so swimming or biking for at least two to three weeks. I will be a horrible person to live with for that time.

Hubs' first half ironman was today. It was fucking hot! Like, "real feel" temperature of 100 degrees hot. He did it in six hours 47 minutes. Not too bad for the weather and lack of proper training! I'm so proud of him!

I'm so proud of him! Yay for Mr. Cookies! (I guess we should call him Mr. Galore, but that makes him sound like a stripper ) I did my first ever postal swim - 5K (5,000 meters) in just over 2 1/2 hours. Not a time to set the world on fire, but it's done. Preliminary national results come out Oct 7, so I will see how I did compared to the rest of the planet on that date. Did a triathlon last weekend and have one next weekend. Then a break, then a 10K and a swim meet in early October.
