I've never been to a chiropractor, though I have wondered if it would help. I need to ask around and get a recommendation, rather than just pick one from a list. My insurance does cover 12 visits a year for one, so maybe I should consider it. This morning, while at the track, I got a notion in my head to run the bleachers (the track is at a local high school). Great for my ego, but now my body hates me.

I love my chiropractor, I hope yours helps! When I did the marathon, I used to get butt and hip/outside upper thigh pain something terrible. I couldn't sit because it hurt so bad. Something pinched in my lower back and it would loosen up after an adjustment.
Good luck on your races everyone! I am just over here sitting on my ass and getting fatter!

I'm glad I went. My SI joint was/is all out of whack. When she was doing the muscle scraping on my right low back and hip, I actually had to grip the arms on the chiropractic table and said "holy crap!" a few times. Usually the muscle scraping is my favorite part of my visits, as they hurt but in a good way. But, I'm taped up for the race (hopefully it stays) and my hip did not hurt sitting on the train this morning. Progress already! I'm going to go for a short two mile run after work tonight. Chiro also gave me exercises to do.

OK, I'm a week away from a four-mile race and then two days after that, a sprint triathlon. After Saturday's long pool workout, I go into taper-down mode exercise-wise, only to ratchet things up for the holiday prep.

The Philadelphia Marathon and Half was today. Hubs and I did... okay. I finished the half in 2:34, was aiming for 2:20. I started with total body failure at mile 10, splits were all over the place (9:05 mile followed by an 11:00 mile?!), and I had to weave through people for pretty much the first five miles. Still happy that I finished and I don't hurt as much as I did earlier! Hubs did the full in 4:20. He ran the first two miles with me so had to maneuver through all the people that irritated me and he's a much faster runner than I, so that had to be aggravating! He did stop to pee along the way and his family was at mile 19 so he stopped for hugs and pictures. All in all, great day and I am happy to be done with training for anything!

Both on finishing and not hurting as much as earlier I like big races for the energy the crowd gives, but man, I hate having to bob and weave through all the slow pokes that start up front!

Glad I didn't have to pee because the porta-a-pottie lines were too long for my liking. I wasted enough time walking up the big hill and stopping to stretch. I am grateful for restaurant bathroms. I was having a post-race beer with a friend while I waited for hubs to finish, and first sip is when I felt that urgent "Uh oh!" moment.

(This slowpoke does understand, and starts towards the back. I figure I can pass people when it's time). Strollers. I hate strollers. OK, some people who run regularly with strollers do it very well. Steph08 I know has practiced it. But the amateurs? Please....you need to take that buggy out and try it out in practice before a race. We like that you are out there and showing your kid that you are a hero (and wanting them to emulate you) but my Achilles tendons are only two of a kind.

I've been in big races where they put up pace signs at the start with minutes per mile. You are expected to place yourself behind the pace you expect to run.

I've been in big races where they put up pace signs at the start with minutes per mile. You are expected to place yourself behind the pace you expect to run. The bigger, longer races do that. I did a 10K recently that had signage (it was a Disney half-marathon qualifier, and had a lot of runners). But for your average 5K or 10K, generally no signage. It's more of an honor system thing. I don't know why people who know they are slower start up front. It impedes the race in general, and they stand an excellent chance of getting hurt. I'm all for getting out there and running hard and doing one's best, but at some point, your desire has to get an equal dose of etiquette and reality.

The Rock N Roll half that I did had signage. Very few people heeded those signs. And no one was enforcing it. And, some races put slower people in the "faster" corrals due to course time limits, space limits, etc. I get it, and in general, don't mind. What bugs me is, you know you are walking/running slower than those around you, so why do you insist on running down the middle with your arms spread out/three across holding hands/doing whatever else to make sure you take up as much room as possible?! Just be considerate and try to stay to the side/out of the way.

Just be considerate and try to stay to the side/out of the way. Or taking selfies or pictures of each other! OK, I get that people have their devices and want to capture the moment. Go ahead, but don't impede other runners who are actually doing this for time. And while I love to see people who run with their kids (not stroller-size kids, but older than that), please know your child's limits. Some seven-year-olds can run a 5K. Many cannot. Don't make your crying child keep running and for heaven's sake, don't leave them out on the course while you finish your run (yes, I have seen this happen. The parents think it's OK because the course is policed and the kids will follow other runners. ).

OK, 4-miler on Thanksgiving done (ran it easy, just as a training run) and today's triathlon done. The tri felt quite good - no cramping or pain this time, and have been doing chores since I got home. Finished third in my division, and it was a larger and more competitive group this time.

Good job on your run and triathlon NancysSummerSip ! My DH and I ran our turkey trot today. I ran it in 27:18 and came in 14th in my age group. I know, I won nothing, but I've never come in that high in my age group in a 5k before. So I'm pretty happy. I have no races coming up. I think I need to find one, even if it's cold out, because I like racing. It keeps me motivated to run inside on the treadmill regularly. OTOH, I'm really enjoying this "lazy" period. Decisions, decisions.....

I have just a one-day swim meet next month, and I think that will be it for the year. I do have some tough races early in 2016, so I will concentrate on training for those, and do like Flamingo and enjoy a bit of the lazies.

I was supposed to be volunteering at an event tomorrow, but no tent will be put up. Since the person in charge of this cluster &$#! had no Plan B (and for that matter, Plan A was not well thought out, either), we have no back up without a tent (the weather has been, and continues to be, quite bad here).
So.....I get my morning back. Works for me. I plan to do some cycling, weather allowing.

He plans on running another marathon in March and then doing a sprint, Olympic, and half Ironman triathlons. I plan on running Broad Street and the Philly Half again, but I mainly want to concentrate on 10k and below next year. I want to improve time versus distance.

My DH is focusing on his 5k and 10k time in 2016. He started this plan last month. He says that it's so freeing/liberating to know that he only has to run a 5k or 10k and no true long runs (like he would if he were training for a half). I'm already planning on an October marathon, so I need to find a May/June half to do. I think my first real run of the season will be the Shamrock Shuffle in March. That's only 5 miles, so it's the perfect distance to get me amped up for serious training again.

My plans for next year include: a double-drawbridge 10K (January; I did this one last year, finishing 3rd in my age group), my first bike race (February), my first Olympic tri (April).
I'm still juggling the calendar, deciding what to do in terms of races.

So....what is everyone doing to stay active in the cold months?
We don't really get all that cold here, so few if any excuses for me. I've started running the bleachers at the high school, in preparation for a double-bridge 10K next month. I did the race last year, finishing 3rd in my age group. I'd like to do better. Nothing on the schedule until 1-17-16, though I might throw a New Year's weekend 5K in, just to stay sharp.

I run year-round; I love cold weather running. I'm still waiting for it to get cold. It's been 10-20 degrees above average for most of the month.

I don't mind the cold so much as I kind the dark. And since I run the morning before work it's always dark this time of year. So I either run on a treadmill or do the elliptical during the week then I run on the weekends outside unless it's icy.
I'm ready for light and warm weather! I already have cabin fever!
