It's very cold here today. Guess I was too busy watching my basketball team get another victory to know that it snowed a little bit. My team is now 15-2 and ranked 21st in the country. They were on a roll today. Won by about 40 points over a team that beat them twice last season and has one of the best players in the conference. Had to switch who was guarding her, but once Coach found the right player, no more scoring from her.
Wind chills are below zero now. I won't be going outside until I bundle up to take out the trash tomorrow. Not going anywhere until Tuesday.
The church where I work can't survive without me. First the treasurer sent me a text to email something to another council member. Then the pastor sent me a text because he didn't know the password to the computer.

I am decluttering. We also did some grocery shopping, too.
The new adoption center for the Cat House is on schedule (being built on Petco) and we should take possession on Jan 30. We need to get it stocked, furnished and decorated and up and running by the first weekend in February, hopefully. Then the Grand Opening is on Feb 15.
I like Home Shows (when they're free!)
Theo, I suppose it's good that the church leadership needs + depends on you ... job security!

've been watching the inauguration stuff on NBC this morning. Keep waiting to see if they show a shot of DS! I'm doubtful, but it would be cool. I had no idea the parade didn't start til 2:30. I kept figuring on it around mid day. Hopefully it will be over before dark . Molly, that is great that the adoption center is almost ready. How cool! I love home shows but refuse to go because I don't have the money to do the neat stuff I see. I'm a huge DIYer, so it's worse for me, because I will try to figure out how to do something myself, and then tackle it. Which translates into spending money. I vowed to stop spending this year, and 3 weeks into it, I've purchased new sheets for my bed, pizza pan and loaf pan, programmable crock pot and a financial book for the book club. Need to put the card to bed! Good news though, I should have my cc paid off next month. Wish I had some crap I could sell to help that along! It's cold here, but the rest of the week won't get out of the 20's, which is cold around here. Sunny though. The weather people are really starting to slip. Last weekend was supposed to be beautiful and in the 60's to 70's. It was cold and rainy all weekend. We were supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow Thursday night. Just rain. I think DD will be home sometime tomorrow. She has an appointment with a dentis to talk about getting her wisdom teeth out. I think I'm going to put beef stew in the crockpot tomorrow so we have dinner ready when I get home. Unfortunately, back to work tomorrow. I've been off 4 days (my day off on Friday and MLK today). Had almost 2 weeks off at Christmas. It's actually getting tougher and tougher going to work every day. I'm so close to retirement, but not ready financially, if they were to offer early outs due to budget cuts. I need these next 5 1/2 years to get student loans paid off and some more money saved up. Oh well, it will go quickly.

I just got a text from DS. They just got to DC. He said they will be the very last ones in the parade. He said they have 28 buses to carry all of the cadets! Wow! He said they are still on the buses. I do know that they go through a thorough security check because they carry rifles - they have to make sure there aren't any firing pins. Of course they don't ever shoot them, but they each have to be checked. That should keep them busy for awhile

It's 2 degrees here and below zero wind chill. Very happy my car is in a garage.
I've been watching the inauguration on and off all day. I did miss the parade. The beginning of the ball was beautiful with the video of the troops in Afghanistan. Loved watching the President and First Lady dance. I'm sure the First Daughters are two tired young ladies tonight. They have had quite a busy day today.
The Obamas have done a good job of keeping their daughters out of the spotlight except on major occasions. They have grown up so much in four years.
This was the first time I have actually watched the President being sworn in and give the Inaugural Address. I was always at work.

I bagged up and froze the deboned chicken breasts, and chicken soup. It sure helps me save money if I can just put something down in the fridge to thaw before I leave for work. I am going to do some more roast, new potatoes and carrots. I'll freeze the roast, and eat the veggies with what is already cooked. I figure that with 40 days before the weather starts to warm, I'll be eating stew, and soup a lot for work.

It was nice spending a 3-day weekend with my wonderful DH. Highlights: we went out for lunch one of the days to my favorite breakfast place, and I had the California eggs benedict (they make it with artichoke crowns, avocado, eggs and hollandaise sauce on english muffins), with a side of applewood smoked bacon. Yum. I was craving that! (So was my wonderful DH, he ordered the same thing and we shared the bacon!)
Today, we dropped off some stuff at the Cancer Society Discovery Shop (yet again), then headed to Sam's Club where we purchased a membership. The standard 2-person membership is $40, but they give a $15 gift card to military ... yay! ... so it was really just $25 for the year. We bought allergy pills (400 count for $15.76) and gummi vitamins and some Vitamin E and Breathe Right strips for my wonderful DH. We also stocked up on Dixie Ultra paper plates, and bought some fun other grocery-type things either to try or as a treat. (OK, we didn't NEED the giant jar of artichoke hearts, but we bought it anyway!) I also picked up some turkey jerky, some chicken sausages for the freezer, some italian salami and some really nice pork chops. Oh, and chicken. I didn't want to overspend, so we only took a certain amount of cash with us (and they don't take VISA)
I am really trying to curb my recreational spending. So far, so good. (Ok, except for the artichoke hearts.) The ONLY thing I've ordered on Amazon this month was to pre-order the Les Miserables BlueRay when it comes out, eventually. And the Sam's Club membership, but $25 is a pretty good deal, all things considered.
We're forecast for 70 tomorrow. In January. That's not normal.

I missed the parade. Kept telling myself don't forget and I forgot. The TV is seldom on. I'm just not in the habit of watching during the day. I watch an hour before bed, but the show has to be low key. I do turn it on for Marley when I go out, just for the 'company'. Oh and Downton Abbey. I watch that, but sometimes forget it's on, as well.
I have beef soup on the stove. I had to take care of my celery so I used some with other veggies I needed to use up.
I've been in a stay at home mode for a few days. I didn't even go out to my Monday night activity. My girlfried was a bit upset, but hopefully she'll get over it. I did laundry today and vacuumed. I also did half of the baseboards (cleaned) in the house. I'll muster up some more energy and finish them later in the day.
I'll run my errands tomorrow before I pick up GS1 from the bus. Marley usually goes with me and snuggles in the car with her towel while I do the errands.
Stay safe and enjoy the day.

While decluttering in the dining room, I came across a baggie-full of silver salt and pepper shakers. I was going to donate them, when I decided to take them to the local coin/pawn shop instead. $79 later, I was heading home ... woot! Woot! (They were sterling!) Anyway, that made me smile and now I've got some play money to ... play with!
We only hit 66 today, which was delightful. I did think that the 70 that was forecast was amazingly optimistic.
We called the tree place and put our ornamental pear trees (3) with fireblight on their spring spray list. $220 for three trees, but it has to be done. You may recall that they were looking dreadful last spring/summer and I had a couple of tree guys out, but they said that I needed to wait for the next spring and to get them sprayed before they started to blossom. They also said that we need to get them treated annually, which means I need to start putting $20 a month aside for ... tree care!
My wonderful DH is at work today, making flight, car and hotel reservations for Texas Jan 30-Feb 16. I checked the weather for where he's going and they're seeing upper 70s/80s down there.
::: rolling my eyes at tree care! :::

We have had horrid dense fog for over a week now and it finally lifted this afternoon. They have been issuing stagnant air advisories for a week now. It felt so good to see the sun that I actually went for a little walk this afternoon. Tomorrows forecast call for freezing rain in the morning, they can leave my share out. Then we should be back to our normal temps and normal rainy weather.

It was -7 below this morning, but is currently 10. I took care of the great nephew and niece today, so Lucy is staying close to mom this evening. I received 5 1099s today--all for my rep payee clients. Two are deceased. I do have to get one of my clients her 1099 as she does file a tax return. My client with schizophrenia thinks she is getting the Earned Income Credit. I explained to her she doesn't have any earned income. My tax return is 95% complete. I just need to calculate my contribution miles and my business miles. Everything else is entered and waiting for forms to confirm figures. I received my 1098 today on my mortgage interest and property taxes. When I entered my 1099 information from the church, my refund was cut in half--both income and SE tax on that. I looked at the website that has the listing for mom and dad's house. Both the main bath and the crappy basement bath are now shown. A picture of the bar is now there and the picture of a wall in the basement is gone. Listing looks much better. Like my DN said, if I saw that listing the way it was before, I would not have even looked at the house. I would think a total bathroom remodel was in order. Her hubby is planning on renting a UHaul truck. We're figuring if DS, DN and I are packing and nephews are loading, we should be able to get it done in a day, two at the most. Apparently dad thought the truck had to be returned where they live. Her hubby priced it and the move will be about $200 plus gas. If the PhD to be nephew wants to pay for a professional moving company, that is his option.

All that's left for me to do for our taxes is sign them once the CPA calls. He already called to tell me what the refund would be. (That combat zone tax exlusion is nifty, but I won't miss it if it means no more deployments to combat zones, ya know?)
More decluttering today ... I found a bunch of floral arrangements and vases and "decor" tucked into a few cupboards that we haven't touched in years. Ahhh chooo! I dusted things off as best I could. I think we've got 6 plastic tubs worth of carefully-packed breakables to go.... including an impressive collection of orphaned coffee mugs. (We don't even drink coffee!)
We've got rain coming ... the weather person just wasn't quite sure when.

I guessed wrong. Stayed home Mon because I ‘thought’ it was going to be the coldest day thisweek so I needed to see my Dad on Tue. Turned out Tue was the coldest. High finally hit 11 BUT w/the wind chill I don’t think we broke 0.
We have (finally) some snow coming. First late this week is supposed to be just a dusting. Next over the weekend s/b first really measurable. Temps are forecast to be 'normal' (mid 20's) over the next few days.

Brrrrrrr. Brrrrrr. Brrrrr. Stay warm, Holly! (Brrrrrr.)
My wonderful DH, in an effort to be more "marketable" within the military, has started Air War College (Distance Learning) through the USAF. It's basically graduate level military strategy, etc. He has to start with the elective first, so he is working his way through learning a foreign language via Rosetta Stone (which was his elective choice.) This should be the shortest and easiest part of the coursework. In theory, he has 3 years to complete Air War College ... but he'd like to get it done ASAP (career wise) ... and hopefully it will do him some good, job-wise. If nothing else, he is learning something useful (the language part, at least).
We have rain clouds. We have rain forecasted. What we don't have yet is .... you got it .... actual rain.

Today has been a rough day. I don't feel like going into details, but between things at work and personal life, it's been tough. Prayers are very welcome. 2013 so far has had it's share of trials. I am trying to keep the faith, and know that all things happen for a reason.
It is very cold here as well. There is talk of some snow, but last Thursday we were supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow and just got rain. Keep safe everyone!

When I moved here, I tossed things like flowers and vases that hadn't seen the light of day in years. Pretty much anything aside from the Beatles/Paul collection that hadn't seen the light of day in years was tossed. Even some of that was tossed.
Thoughts and hugs to you, mother.
Molly, yes the combat pay exclusion is very nice on your tax return. A friend's SIL was station in the US but his pay had no withholding. Some from his unit were in Iraq. Needless to say they owed many $ and were not happy. SIL had been to Iraq for just a few days, not a long time, so not much of his pay was excludable.
I received one of two 1099-Rs today. Numbers were same as in my records.
Still need before I can file: other 1099-R and W-2 from that awful college job that paid me $500, determine volunteer and business miles. Hopefully the forms show up by January 30.

No. The cause for which I purchased them is still worthwhile. I just wish I hadn't done it until I got rid of more of this clutter. I shall have to ship them to Afghanistan right away. grrr My keyboard is acting up.

The best laid plans…………<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Dad was transferred to the rehab place last Sat – 1/19. I saw him on Sun & Tue. Planned to go Wed also since brother was outof town on business. However, about 6:15am Wed got an URGENT from my brother. Dad was being transferred back to hospital w/HIGH fever. Flew out of the house in 10 min. Got to ER & Dad is totally out of it-lethargic& non-responsive. Within an hour orso we have a multi-issue diagnosis: UTI, pneumonia in 1 lung, kidneyissues. Also, a suspicion he had fairlyrecently (within 2 weeks or so) had a stroke. Get a floor bed about 11 am. Dr ‘reminded’me Dad has a DNR on file. My brother gotan emergency flight back & got to the hospital about 12:30. I left about 1:30-45. Brother was promised to call or email anupdate later but NADA. NOT happy.
Sorry for the vent.

Holly, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I'll add you to my list of prayers.
We were supposed to have the possibility of a light dusting of snow up to about an inch. We have at least 4. Work has a late start of 10. I parked my car up on the flat part of our drive since I wasn't anticipating snow. I'm trying to decide if I want to try and shovel or just take the day off. I'm leaning very heavily to a day off since it's really cold also. Last night was a hard night. I'm feeling better this morning, but have a heavy heart. Working through it though. Thanks for the prayers Molly. Very much appreciated.

Holly, praying for your dad. Vent away ... that's what we're here for.
I spent 20 minutes this morning retrieving my brand new chapstick from under the refrigerator. Apparently, they make awesome cat toys. (grin)
We had some rain last night, but not much. Forecast for more today. Currently 58 and overcast. My wonderful DH has been "working from home" in the mornings (doing his language lessons) and asking me every 30 minutes what I'm doing. (grin) I think he's bored. I just ordered him a USB headset with microphone for his laptop so I don't have to hear someone saying (in a foreign language) "The dog is dangerous and may bite." (or whatever silly phrases they learn). Once it comes, I will only have to hear my wonderful DH's voice. $15 well spent, I'd say.
We briefly had a hawk on our front porch, but it flew off.

Holly and Mother, prayers for both of you.
I am going to start my taxes this evening. I have a packet that I need to fill out and then that goes to the accountant with all my info. Todays mail brought the tax info from DD's school and the donation info from church.

Holly, wishing the best for your dad. I had to convince my 89 year old client to see her doctor. I called her yesterday about coming to see her and she described cold/flu symptoms and was mad that pharmacy wouldn't prescribe something. I told her a doctor has to prescribe for her. She called the doctor and was mad they wouldn't prescribe without seeing her. How do they know what to prescribe and exactly how sick an elderly person is without seeing them? Mom and dad had two showings of the house today. Two different people. Dad thinks they will be gone in a week once they have an offer. He asked DS if we could move them next weekend. If they do get an offer that quickly, it will not close that soon--even if it's a cash offer. I would think a cash offer is highly unlikely. They forget they bought the house at auction because mom couldn't let her brother's house leave the family. They had possession the same day because they paid cash. It won't work like that. Guiding them through this is not going to be fun. Just want to get them up here. DS and BIL have been having problems with cold weather. Hog confinement building has had frozen water lines and feed lines. DS's car has needed major repairs. They screwed up the first one and caused some kind of fluid to leak in to the oil. That repair was on the repair shop. She also had to get a new heater. She sounded happy tonight.
