It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

How, dancinmama, do you propose to see that those "weakest among us" are to be provided for if we simply take the stance that everyone should be given equal opportunity and left to their own devices? There's a bit of a problem there, I'd say. The "weakest among us" can't take advantage of those lovely opportunities for education and self-promotion. So, we cut social services for the disenfranchised to the bone, put into place some magical system of "equal opportunity for all" and lean back. Somehow, I see some folks really, really losing. Losing bad. Not for me, I'm afraid.

Losing bad. Not for me, I'm afraid. I'm not lumping the weakest among us with everyone else. There are some people, those who are born with disabilities or those who become disabled along the way who will not be able to care for themselves. They should be taken care of. The rest of us have to do the best we can with what we've been given. You are NEVER going to make things equal....EVER. Some people are born with a high IQ or great beauty or a natural talent that is valuable to the society. Others are just "normal" people. At some point in time you have to accept who you are and do the best you can in spite of what God didn't give you at birth and without whining about what you don't have or what you can't do. DH and I are both of average intelligence. When we were in college we both had to study a lot more (work harder) than some of our friends to get the same grade or sometimes even a worse grade. In addition, we both were working our way through school where others didn't have to do that. Is that fair? I didn't really think about it, I just accepted it for what it was and did the best that I personally could and was successful in spite of it. I did not ask the professor to level the playing field by giving me an easier test or more time to complete a term paper.

I think Romney beat Obama handily in the first debate. In the second debate I believe Romney's defeat over Barack and Candy was of a slightly slimmer margin.

I'll tell you a little secret, dancinmama. The standard of living for a whole buncha people in this country needs to decline. We've been living, as individuals, high on the hog. Now, we've found there is no ladder and we're up to our elbows in mud. Pretty soon, that hog we're standing on is gonna go under. People are being paid outrageous salaries to potter about on the internet for a good portion of the day. Salaries are inflated. Prices of goods are inflated. Reality has gone right out the window and it needs to get back inside. A family of four doesn't need three SUV's, two boats, six wide screen TVs, and a vacation home. What we're seeing, too often, is greed run wild. It needs to stop, and it isn't the poor who need to stop it. I would suggest we start with welfare payments. Look at their multiple suv's, free cellphones, and .more gold on their bodies than humans should physically carry due to weight constraints. Question. Have you ever stood in a grocery line behind the foodstamp queens and kings, loaded down with gold and silver rings and bracelets, who pay in foodstamps, then pull out the wads of $100 bills that would choke a horse, to pay for the beer and wine, then load everything up in a hummer or BMW. Start with government redistribution reduction before adding taxes. I really don't pay attention to how people are paying their grocery bills...today it is a debit card similar to mine...whether it is just my own debit card or it is a card that is used instead of food stamps..stamps have gone out of favor a long time ago... Have I noticed heavy people at check outs..buying the most unhealthy foods imaginable? Yep, that I have noticed...no don't say anything and as I got older and got a bit wiser, realized how important good nutrition is..more greens, less red meats etc...but that is a happening because of awareness and health reasons.. Gold rings and bracelets??Nope..blond hair?? Yep..seems to be the thing her in South Florida..remember once when visiting Mom here and went looking for her in the super market after dropping her off and parking the car..going up and down aisles looking for her..all the lady's were blond..told her from now on she carries a balloon till I find her.. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) [ True story ]

No. I doubt you have either. Love these urban legends.
