That would teach her. But I want her to know why she is sick. I could just say, "Gee! I'm so sorry! I came into the office with a stomach bug just cause I didn't want to have to stay at home where my bratty kids are. So sorry I passed it on to you. Perhaps I should have STAYED HOME LIKE A CONSIDERATE PERSON DOES."
You guys are good.

I never understood companies that gave awards or people that prided themselves on never calling in sick.

Doxie - do you have allergies? Being sick 3 times since August sounds like a lot to me. Yes, plus asthma. I stuck my head in a smoky truck earlier this week and now have a sinus infection. Really this is quite normal for me. My new boss already said he has never met anyone as sickly. Good news is I have not missed a day.

And then sneeze on them. Nothing worse than diarehha with a bad cough/cold. If you had any control on one end, it will be complicated by the lack of control on the other end.
***I got a bad cold when I was significantly pregnant. Every time I would sneeze, I would pee a little it SUCKED ASS!

If I hear that someone is sick at work I will literally tell them to stay away from me. I work in health care, also, and it's just absolutely insane that folks think they can care for SICK people when they are SICK. Work from home, do something else, but do not come in and touch doorknobs, breathe on keyboards, push elevator buttons, etc and spread the nastiness.

Honey until employers make it acceptable to stay home when sick, i will be coming to work sick. If i stayed home for the three illnesses I have had since the end of August, I would have already been fired.

Recently I had an employee with Lice! They got sent home quick and boy did that freak everyone outKiddo got lice from daycare. I was steamed when I found out from the daycare and pedi's office that kids no longer have to be kept home till they are nit free. As long as the parents say the kid is being treated, they can come back. Apparently it was felt that kids with lice are stigmatized by having to stay home, so it is better to send them back potentially non-nit free. WTF? When I was in school you had to stay home till you were nit free and the school nurse also had to re-check you before you could go to class. Urgh, now it is an endless cycle because the darn kid comes back and reinfects everyone.

All my sick time gets used staying home with the kids when they're sick. I get a whopping 5 days a year. Luckily, beyond colds, I don't get sick very often.

Pediatrican said he and most other doctors aren't really thrilled with the policy either, but they don't get to set it. He said the same thing I did, it just causes the cycle to endless repeat itself. The damn things are hard enough to kill as it is without a fresh batch being brought home.

I've noticed that with the advent of a pooled PTO, more people come to work sick rather than use their 'vacation' We switched our policy a couple of years ago from a sick (use it or lose it)+vacation to a pooled PTO. I've now seen the same people who would have in the past stayed home when sick, now come in because they don't want to use a vacation day. It's frustrating as hell. I've had the opposite experience, but I do think this is largely dependent about how much PTO is offered to the employee. And I do think the advantage of PTO is that the employee has to consider if they feel bad enough to give up a day of PTO. It prevents employees from doing what I've seen with my other employers when they call in sick for the sake of using up a day of sick time. I think the bigger problem is that some employers offer sick time or PTO, but punish employees for using it legitmately.

I think a lot depends on your definition of "sick". Flu = Sick and I'll stay home; a cold - eh! not so much so I just go to work. Sick kids are the worst at making you feel like a lousy mom: years ago (26 to be precise) DS2 complained that he didn't feel so good. But he had wanted to stay home with mom for a few days already and he had no fever, so off to school he went. Before I was even out the door of the building he threw up all over the place. I still feel guilty about that! Lousy mom that I was

I have asthma, diabetes and a rare blood disorder. I haven't been sick in some 4 years or more. If I feel a bit of a scratchy throat, I just do my brainwave entrainment H Plus function commands and in 10 minutes or so, the scratchy throat is gone. I believe in empowerment. ;D

Next thing I know, the hourly care is calling me because she threw up. I have been 'sick' for almost 2 months. I've a cough that I just can't shake. I've been tested for asthsma, bronchitis, pneumonia- you name it. If I don't have a fever or vomiting, I tend to suck it up and go to school anyway. I am manic about carrying hand sanitizer with me and covering my mouth with my elbow when I cough, though.

Did you take note if one theory worked better than the other? Which office had more productivity? Yes, the one who paid sick pay had better productivity because he trusted us and didn't want us to attempt to work sick. At the other offices, when we were sick, we were all asking co-workers to check our work as we didn't feel confident in what we had done. Feeling well made me feel productive. Feeling sick did not.

I remember telling my mom when I was in second grade that I was sick. I walked home for lunch and was burning up with a fever. Off to the doctor we went and I had the measles. This was back in the 50's so no vaccines. Notes went to parents and at least half the class got the measles from me and one poor girl had all kinds of serious complications.
Even me, the kid, felt bad for her.

I do not have sick time. I only get a week vacation after one year. We accumulate 1 hour a week for a max of 48 hours. I have only worked here 6 weeks.

We get 52 hours a year of sick time. Jesus, Doxie. You wonder why people don't "understand" your stories.

I think Doxie means she can accumulate 52 hours a year sick time, but she hasn't been there long enough to accumulate any.
Or, I could be wrong.

I understand that NOW, in connecting the dots of subtle innuendo and context, but that's not what she said. She said she's not using it because she needs to stock-pile it for REAL illnesses. *shakes head*

I get a max of 48 hours a year that I can store. I would like to save them up for migraine days or days I have to stay in a bathroom.
My point is that I cant just stay home for every illness. I run out of leave before illness.
I had a year of working that I missed over 100 days for illness. Thankfully i had fmla leave. My employer now, is not requiredto provide fmla.

No employer would put up with me sick all the time. Which is why I learn to suck it up and come sick. At least that way I look dedicated.

You know you're sick all the time, yet you chose to work at a place with a crappy sick leave policy and don't have to provide FMLA.
