I don't have any "friends" that I hang out with. I work and come home. There are people at work who are always saying they would love to go with me on a trip but I know they are just talking because they don't have the money to do it. I am sure they would go if I paid their way but if I wanted to pay someone else's way I would take my son or daughter. No, I agree that wouldn't work. No sibs either? My sister lives > 6000 miles from me but we manage to "organize" trips anyway. I do use the word organize loosely here since we both are more fly by the seat of your pants people. We find a place we would both like to visit, kind of plan, and then go. Whether we stick to our original plan from there depends on what we find once we get there (where ever that may be). Another option would be to find a good tour company that organizes trips for a limited number of people. We have done that too, for instance when we went to Ireland since neither of us wanted to drive on the left side of very narrow roads. And we had a great time there as well. There are at least two more tours on the horizon: a cruise to Alaska and a trip to China. So back to saving heaps of money for me...

We're talking about Nepal/Bhutan in the fall of 2013, but it's just under discussion until our January financial planning meeting....
ilovedolphins, Have you considered an organized tour? (You might check out the Rick Steves tours if you are interested in Europe). My BIL liked to travel but didn't like to travel alone so he started taking organized tours. He really enjoyed them. Then he met his future wife on an organized tour in Australia....... Now they travel together.... ;D
Athena, We used "China Highlights" for our trip. They did a great job. We wanted the convenience of a tour but the privacy of one guide for just the two of us. If you want the name of the agent we used, feel free to PM me.

No maybes! I'm gonna keep pushing you Seriously though, both places are just beautiful. The people in Ireland were so friendly! We didn't get out away from tourist places in Rome (went with my sister, will NEVER do that again, I swear she made it her mission to ruin our trip). As for the single traveling, when I was researching our first trip I found one that caters to single women. They will double you up for rooms so you don't have to pay the single's fee. Some other companies do this as well, you just have to look and be willing to room with someone you don't know.

I only have a brother who is married and they are financially strapped from medical bills. My sister died about 16 years ago. It just seems so extreme in our small town to travel abroad. I haven't heard of many people who have traveled abroad that I know.

I looked into some of those single travel groups. I'm married, but a single traveler. I feel uncomfortable joining a singles group. I guess I'll keep having to pay for my DD's company!

Just booked our trip to Whistler Canada to ski. 5 nights in a room that will sleep 4-6 for $150 a night the week before Christmas. Good price and we have stayed there before. Its about a 5 block walk to the lift. Now I'm dreading checking lift ticket prices.

My plans only sound interesting to me.
On November 11, I will be sitting/standing in the 5th row in St. Louis for a Paul McCartney concert
Over Thanksgiving, I am going to Denver to see my favorite basketball team play. Going back to Denver to see them the first weekend of January.
My team is playing two games within driving distance of me so if weather cooperates, I will also be taking those in.
All between November and January. My CC will not like this.

Been all over and I won't be picky. Just will be needing sun, heat and don't care if gulf or ocean, just water. Should really get looking for some deals soon I guess.

I think I'm headed back to Knoxville Thanksgiving weekend. Doing the Army/Navy game in Philly in December. Maybe I'll go somewhere warm for a bowl game In late May, I might be going to Alaska. In July I'm doing somewhere in the Caribbean. 2014 will be a year of many vacations. Atlanta, Austin/Houston and Alabama beaches and New Orleans. are you going to do a cruise to Alasksa?

No, we are exploring. Apparently backpacking is involved. I might have been drinking when I said yes. Not booked yet so I'll see what happens.
