Going to my basement in late Oct. HAVE to replace my furnace and a/c. that is eating up ALL the budgeted $$ for vacations in 2013 and 2014. Holly. Hey, it will be so warm down there with the new furnace, you should spread some sand, set up a lawn chair and an umbrella, and sit down there sipping frozen daiquiris or margaritas!! You'll feel just like you would in the tropics!!! ;D P.S. If I said "KF" would you know what I mean? Cuz, I think we used to hang at the same place.

I have no life. Aw, don't say that, SK. I don't have any trips planned either, but I still feel like I have a life. I know what you mean, and yes I guess I do have a life. We did Yellowstone this past summer and it was FABULOUS. We were talking about doing Yosemite next summer but we really can't afford it. Maybe in 2014. Next summer our vacations will be basically 3-day camping trips within 2 hours of our house. It's not horrible (we live in the PNW so we have a zillion beautiful locations) but certainly not as exotic as the rest of the trips described here. It's the kids' fault - they suck up every damn penny.

"I'm planning on going crazy. Anyone want to come along?" I live there full-time. I'll get the spare bedroom ready for your visit.

I'm planning on going crazy. Anyone want to come along? I'm in! Especially since I quit my weekday evening glass of wine. Calorie-watching is bad for my mental health (and parenting). ;D

I would love to go to Cuba, Weltschmerz. We legally can't travel there yet, but maybe some day. We're going on our first cruise in January, although we haven't booked the trip as of yet. I want to find a boat without any outbreaks of the Noro virus. It's going to be somewhere on the Caribbean, just don't know which part yet.

I'm planning on going crazy. Anyone want to come along? Think bigger, Thyme. For you, that would be a short trip.

The Netherlands in May for some family functions and after that sis2 and I plan to spend a few days in either Pargue, Budapest, or Barcelona --- depending on which one has (a) the best deals, and (b) fits in with the family functions timing wise. In September we (same sis and I ) will be visiting my DS1 in Singapore and we will go a couple of days to Malaysia snorkeling. DS1 recommended Pulau Perhentian. He sent link for us to look at and it looks gorgeous but has any of you been there to chime in? Maybe Drama since I know she spend time in Malaysia???

I just realized I was looking in the Grove on Arts Festival weekend. But Miami Beach seemed even pricier than usual too.

Also since my MIL is coming from Haiti on the 18th we might drive up to NY to see her and how she is doing.

Then next November, my biking family is doing a week long organized ride through the Florida keys. Dividend, we swam with the dolphins at the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon. It was on my "bucket list" and I preferred to do it there than at some Disney resort. We also LOVED the Butterfly Center / Museum in Key West. It was raining the day we arrived so we went, and we all LOVED it! The best part were the quails, they were so funny lol! You're the second or third person who's told me that the butterfly center is awesome, so it's on the list. I'm not sure how much time / flexibility we'll have since we'll be on bicycles for 40 miles a day. Last time I was in Key West was 7 or 8 years ago - I remember it being super bicycle friendly. there's a few people that like this convention. there's also a bunch of us quite close to Boston. I think we should all meet up. just throwing that out there. ;D DH and I just bought our PAX tickets and hotel too!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D Yes! DBF has friends an hour outside Boston that he stayed with last year, but I've convinced him we need a hotel room near the convention. And, based on his stories about last time, I'm gonna need better food recommendations than his friends had, too. We're from Kansas City, and they insisted on taking him to a barbecue buffet.

Sure you can go to Cuba legally. Go along with the chamber of commerce or a student trip via a university or local college.

We are taking Transatlantic cruise in early November. We have been on cruise about 20 times so far. And we never gotten sick on the cruise ship. Best time for the all of us hard working Lady's. If you have any question about cruise, just E-mail me. Also, I would love to go Cuba someday. I heard. great things about them.

We're there now with the kids. One day was all DH and I could handle. The kids plan on staying and going to the park for a few more days, but not grams and gramps. No way! I have never in my life seen so many people crammed together in one area!!! The waits and the lines! It was horrible!!! And to think we got to pay almost 400 dollars to be there. I can't imagine being there during the holidays. I did like watching our kids, though.[/quote]
We were at Disney the same day as you were. We got there on the 8th. There were quite a few people there for sure.

Nothing planned, but I did just get my renewed passport and am determined to use it! The last one expired without ever being used ;(. I'd love to go back to France. I REALLY want to go to an island in the South Pacific, but, that's a huge dream. Don't have the money, or anyone to go with, or anyone to watch my dogs for that long...someday... It sucks to not have a travel buddy. I'd like to even do a long weekend in the Carribean. I will almost definitely go to Florida in March for spring training and to visit mom. I go almost every spring but couldn't this year and really missed it. May get down to visit mom before then, if I find a great deal on airfare, I don't need much time to plan. I understand about a buddy to go with. I hate the thought of paying the single supplement if I go on a tour or a cruise.

I would like to go on a 3-4 day cruise to the Carribean in January or February. I think the prices I looked at were cheaper in January. I also want to go to the San Juan Islands and Hawaii and maybe work my way up to Ireland or Italy. And of course the east coast looks inviting also.
I did set up a vacation fund for a trip to Disney World again in December 2013. I guess I will see if that works out. I don't have anything definite but I would like to take at least 1 week every 4 months to go somewhere just to keep destressed.

I just love Florida. I just got back from there from our Disney trip and got bit 4 times by mosquitoes. I had an allergic reaction and they got really red and purple and my eye swelled up. Not to mention that I just had west nile before I went down there. But I still love Florida. I just need to buy shares in the bug spray industry.

Sounds great but my kids are adults and I am single. That's me. So I travel with my best friend (SIS2). We have traipsed around the world for the last decade and have a wonderful time. Dolphin find a friend who likes what you like and travel with him/her. No hubby or kids needed, just have fun

I don't have any "friends" that I hang out with. I work and come home. There are people at work who are always saying they would love to go with me on a trip but I know they are just talking because they don't have the money to do it. I am sure they would go if I paid their way but if I wanted to pay someone else's way I would take my son or daughter.

We have probably changed plans from a January cruise to a trip to Las Vegas in January. There are unbelievable deals out there right now.
