"from what I have seen, the women that are all made up are usually very slender and fit as well. They really don't have much to prove in the "serious about it" department. " That is a good point..someone that cares about their appearance is normally not obese. That's a bias as well, though. Not sure everybody would agree that caring about one's appearance necessitates wearing makeup and having perfectly coiffed hair... especially to work out. Also not sure everybody would agree that caring about one's appearance is confined only to thin people.

"Honestly, I've done it... I think a lot depends on what your "sweat threshhold" is. Personally, I have a very high sweat threshhold (I don't start sweating until, like, minute #20 on the treadmill... I'm weird) so if I just stay away from cardio, I'm fine. My hair won't be SUPER beautiful, but whatever. Other people start sweating profusely just from looking in the direction of a gym, so I guess they are out of luck as far as pre-work, no-shower workouts are concerned. "
I've done it, too...I never thought about it but I don't sweat profusely, either. I have very low blood pressure and am one of those annoying people that are cold when it is 80 degrees. I wil run for 30 minutes and barely break a sweat. My husband will do something for 5 mintues and he is dripping with sweat.

I put makeup on before i go to the gym. I don't like going out with out a bit of eye makeup on. Because i have too many people ask me when i feel perfectly fine if i am getting over the flu or something! lol I find it more curious is that someone actually CARES or takes not about what i wear and what my motives must be. Really?

I do the slow talking thing. I did this recently with a relative of my BIL... I honestly was shocked when he said he was an engineer, and had to chastise myself... That whole family is so, so, uhm, deliberate in their articulation ?
I am biased against people who express strong religious views, and then do not act in ways which are consistent with them, and try as I will, i always question the intelligence a little of people who do not believe in evolution, etc.

You are right. I guess I am biased...i do not like being overweight because i do not think it is attractive. Therefore, I do not think someone that is overweight cares that much about their appearance.

My pet peeve is people who don't consider that ladies using the gym after work (work = a place where makeup and 'doing one's hair' is generally required) don't necessarily feel like bothering with a time-consuming makeup removal routine just so they can appear sufficiently 'low-maintenance' for the other judgemental gym-goers. ;-) To be fair, I work out in the mornings so no one is just getting off work (or at least it is unlikely). Mostly I think of this one chick at my gym who cracks me up. She is there EVERY time I go, but I never see her working out. She'd totally made up with a sexy gym outfit on and spends her time gabbing with other people. Maybe I'm just a judgmental bitch. If she is totally made up AND with a sexy gym outfit on, then perhaps there is a chance she DID in fact just get off "work"? ;-) Heh.

Hey, working gals especially have to stay in shape and maybe pick up a few new clients at the gym?

I might get flamed for this but since we are being honest here... when I see someone covered in tattoos and body piercings (I am not talking about one or two but ALL over their body) I often think they must not like themselves very much. I just don't get it A local orthopedic surgeon i know is covered in tattoos. It is just his thing. I think he likes himself just fine. And, most people who get tattoos find them very meaningful. And for some people it kind of weaves the story of their life so even though i don't have any, i kind of get it. Piercings? That i don't get so much. Just seems like it would be annoying to put a ring in your lip or eyebrow or whatever. But, to each his own i guess. Ok... you said that bit about 'meaningful tattoos' and I remembered this very strong bias I have (I am not a fan of tattoos in general, but this just makes me cringe): People who have portraits of their dead family members (usually very young children) tattooed on their body. Usually by accompanied by "RIP My angel, 2-4-2011 - 10-29-2011" or whatever. I mean... the loss of a family member, or anyone that is close to you, is absolutely tragic. So shouldn't that memory be something that you privately cherish, in your heart? Why on earth are you wearing the reminder on your body, where every asshole in the same swim-up bar can see it, know about your personal loss, and ask inane questions? I truly don't get it. I guess different people grieve differently?

I don't care for people with 'stupid' tattoos. Like I once broke up with a guy who had a Predator face tattooed between his shoulder blades. Not to metion he'd practically begged to go see the new predator movied that'd just come out, saying that we could go to a chick flick or anything I wanted for the next date. In retrospect, it was a little too enthustiastic.
Seeing that tattoo made me question his judgement. Having something on your body that's questionable and permanent makes me question your judgement.

Well, actually for this surgeon, that is how it did start for him. His young child died unexpectedly and tragically. And, he then got a tattoo and from there he has just kept going. As for how someone "should" hold a memory, i don't know. And, to wear it on your body is a way of keeping it with you and also a living memorial of sorts i would suppose. It makes sense to me.

Pet peeves huh?
Footware is something I rage against, particularly flip flops. The only places they should be allowed is the shower, the pool and the beach. I hate sitting in my office and hearing someone flip flopping down the hall from what sounds like a mile away.
I like to do hiking, and people who hike in flip flops or ballet flats or something just seem wrong, like they aren't taking their safety seriously. I saw people hiking the grand canyon in flip flops and ballet flats. Didn't look very safe, it's a LOOONG way down.

The tone of this sounds a bit like my oldest son's pet peeve. He has a little bit of the issue Finch did in American Pie and thinks that all toilets should just be removed from the boy's bathroom, leaving only urinals. He gets annoyed at the "awful" things people do...

But, i don't really like looking at fugly toes either!

I'm rarely hungry in the morning myself. I don't see how people can eat three meals a day. I eat around 11:00-12:00 and again around 5:00, and snack in the evening. Try to do healthy snacks like fresh veggies, yogurt and low fat string cheese.

My daughter and Dh are more "3 meal" kinds of people. And, when we are out and about, i simply just don't remember to eat because i just don't have a big appetite. And, sometimes we go and go and i forget that maybe the kids are hungry! Bad mommy!

Oh yeah, and people who take their shoes off in a public place and start walking around, like a library or office. I realize most places are a lot more casual now, and I'm fine with that, but I think wearing pajamas, flip flops, and/or taking your shoes off all the time is going too far.
I hated that when I worked at a library in college, this is a public place, not your living room.

Funny you should mention that...I had mine checked a few months ago and I have borderline hypo...my levels are as low as you can get and still be in the "normal" range..I'm seeing an endo next month. I would love to not be cold anymore!
Funny though..I AM normal weight but have low thyroid....see, this adds to another one of my biases...excuses about why people are overweight!

"People who have neck and chest tatoos or like 10 face piercings. (I'm excluding nose and ear piercings in that.)"
Eh, I used to have this pet peeve about anyone with a piercing or tatoo, but I've grown past it. As long as they're tastefully done and not totally covered with tatoos or turned their face into a pin cushon, I don't mind too much.

"I avoid doing business that advertize with "family owned and operated" or a tradesman who does "proprietor", etc. on business cards. I think that they are harder to deal with as everything is personal. Negotiating a price is personal ("THEY" are losing money) etc."
Back in 2007-2008, I briefely rented rooms in people's houses. I learned quickly that it's WAAAAY better to rent from a established company not an individual. Things get way too personal when you're in somebody's house. It might be ok to rent property from a landlord that doesn't live with you, but I think I prefer companies.

I can't understand these new ear piercings that stretch your ear lobs out. There is another volunteer at the animal shelter that has those things. One day she didn't have them in and her ear lobs looked like the mouth of a scream mask.

I guess I'm just not used to seeing tattoos or piercings in a professional setting. I do know a few people who worked at my old firm that had tattoos but they were always in places that could be hidden while at work. Public accounting is still a conservative profession so piercings and tons of tats would not go over well. I am now in private accounting and work for a manufacturer...lots of guys in the factory have tons of tattoos but no one in the corporate office has any exposed.
