I am going to put in some of those closet organizer systems, and I have the brochure and everything. My closet is decent sized, but not a walk-in or anything, so I want to make the most of it.
My mother was over and we were looking at some of the pictures of the walk-ins from the catalog. Of couse, those closets are the size of my entire master bedroom. My mother informed me that the "in" thing to do is have a large closet and a little sitting area in your bedroom. Inside the closet, you should have a coffee maker - so when you get up in the morning you can start your coffee without going to the kitchen. But then, you also have a small fridge in the closet, where you keep beverages, so at night you can unwind in your sitting area, without going down to the bar.
So, really? Are rich people really recreating your basic studio apartment, and attaching it to a 5000 square foot house? Are they really drinking in their closets at night? Anyone know anyone like this with a master suite that is so over the top it just doesn't even make sense?

We had a nice walk in closet in our last home. But, no coffee maker! Frankly, more space is more to clean and more stuff to fill it and on and on. One coffee maker and one kitchen is all i need. Don't want to bother with more than that or i wouldn't have time to post! lol ;D

i don't understand why someone would drink in the closest when they have a perfectly comfy couch in the living room.
I have a nice big walk in closet, however, I have no interest in hanging out in there.

Wouldn't they have to walk all their dirty cups and glasses to the kitchen anyway. Maybe they have a dishwasher in their closet too? Or a maid who cleans up their coffee cups every day?

If I'm going to drink in my closet, it would probably be straight from the bottle.

I thought that being a closet drinker was a turn of speech.

I know some pretty rich people but I hate to think of them reduced to drinking in their closet. I live in a teeny tiny house so no walk in closet for me. I do know poeple who bought a house with 3 or 4 bedrooms and promptly converted the bedroom next to the master into their walk in closet. To each his own. If your shoes deserve a room of their own and you can afford it more power to you. I do find it funny when they go to put the house on the market and are shocked to realize that making a 3 bd house into a 2 bedroom house, with a kicking walk in closet doesn't do wonders for their resale price. Maybe that is why they are reduced to drinking in the closet?

We've got a walkin closet, no coffeemaker, but I did put in a mini-fridge so that I could drink a gatorade or Mt Dew when I wake up each morning as a I putter around the bedroom/bathroom/closet.

When we were looking at new construction houses back in 2002, I remember noticing that some of the closets were big enough to double as a nursery. But I never thought of turning one into a kitchenette....

I have a nice big walk in closet, however, I have no interest in hanging out in there. I don't know if it's our coffeemaker or my clumsiness, but I always end up spilling at least half a cup when I pour. Not interested in cleaning that out of carpet. Plus what am I gonna do in there? Sit and stare at the towels? There's not even a TV.

Rich people have assistants to bring their coffee to them.

I think the sitting area is actually in the bedroom - but you wouldn't want to keep a coffee maker out and staring at you, so you put that in your closet. Go in, pour yourself a cup, come back to the sitting area - read the news websites on your iPad, and then get your day started. I guess.
Although - I guess it must be true. Hoops is living proof. Just because his drink of choice isn't coffee doesn't disprove the rumor that the kitchen is just too far to walk to get a beverage.

One thing I have noticed in new homes is it seems to be in style to have to walk through your 5-piece master bath to get to the closet. Maybe the idea is that you don't have to wander into another room after showering to get dressed. But, all I can imagine is using the toilet when a loved one needs access to the closet to get dressed for work.

If I'm honest, I have often wanted to put a coffeemaker in the bedroom. In my old house, we used to have a sitting room attached to our bedroom (it was actually another bedroom - it was an old house and not as fancy as it sounds) and I seriously debated putting one in there, but would have had to do a little fridge for my cream and that seemed like taking it too far. It really does seem too far to walk that early in the morning. The kitchen is downstairs for the love of god!!! Fortunately, my sweetie understands my morning limitations (they are great) and brings my coffee to me in bed every morning.

We saw one huge (ridiculous) house that had a toilet, vanity and closet on each side, and then a huge shower in the middle, with doors on both sides. I guess you both need to pee at the same time and can't wait 3 minutes - but you can schedule your showers accordingly.

Well they make those giant McMansions so big, and with just two people living in it you have to come up with creative ways to use up some of the space.
I know a guy who is very fond of clothes. He and his wife had a three bedroom house, and when the last kid moved out they turned one of the spare bedrooms into a closet, half of it her side and half his.
I don't think they had a coffee pot in it, though. Just racks and racks of clothes and shoes.

I'd never see another whisker in my sink, or have to worry about whether the seat is down in the middle of the night. I don't mind sharing a shower with him, but I'd be happy if that was all.

I think if we all do it right, none of us would ever have to see or share space with anyone we love, ever. That would solve a whole bunch of problems.

He sounds like a keeper I could see it if the kitchen was on a different floor... in our case the closet is probably just as far away.

Hmmm - I never tried bringing him coffee. I just yelled at him, and threw a bucket of ice on his head.

Who's gonna keep my feet warm on a cold winter night?? He's an okay dude to share space with, except for being all hairy and peeing standing up. That's just ridiculous.
