My ex and I had a pretty big house. Our master was on the top floor and we had a coffee/wet bar there. It also had a balcony that overlooked the lake we lived on. I think DH1 made coffee once or twice and that was it. But the wet bar part was used often! We were not rich or wealthy.
I would not want a huge closet where it could fit furniture and a coffee bar. But I do like a walk in closet. We each have one and mine is bigger but not elaborate at all.

Love this thread! Our master suite is pretty self-contained--we do have a walk-in closet, a double sink vanity area, and the shower, separate tub and toilet are in their own little attached room. The bedroom itself is big enough for a sitting area--we just have a couple old feather beds in a heavy-duty cover with some pillows for snuggling in front of the fireplace; and both bedroom and bathroom open onto an enclosed-from-the-backyard patio with hot tub. The thing that really gets me though is that someone decided the room needed a wet bar (with sink, obviously) that's like two steps from one of the sinks in the vanity. Seriously, there's not even a door there. I don't get it.

I guess you don't want to wash your martini glass in the room that you poo in.

I think Renovation Reality recently featured a couple that was turning a bedroom into a walk in closet for the girlfriend. It had a chandelier and everything. There was an article in the SJ Mercury years ago about this really wealthy couple that built an enormous house, with a garage large enough for 20 cars underneath. It was so big they used a golf cart in the house to get around. They converted the master suite into a one bedroom apartment basically. It had a kitchen, laundry, and living room.

I drink martinis when I make twosies - I just prefer to wash my glass in a separate, dedicated martini glass-washing sink.

LOL - such a huge room, and really not used all that well for storage.

Why 3 chairs? Do they invite a bunch of people in there? Two chairs - TOPS - so you can tie your shoes at the same time.

Maybe it's for the rush of visitors they'll have when their neighbors hear about their coffee-on-the-crapper closet.

Heather from the Real Housewives of Orange County entertains in her closet/bathroom/dressing area. She had one of the other ladies over for champagne in her closet/bathroom/dressing area. Her house is probably at least 10k square feet.

That's not the type of entertaining I was thinking that you would do in your bathroom/dressing area......

If a person has a lot of kids, I can see creating this suite within a house.

I guess you don't want to wash your martini glass in the room that you poo in. But the toilet is in a closed-off room (from the vanity sinks) with the shower and tub! Besides, washing the martini glasses is clearly the maid's job

I am sooooooooo non-fancy. Our closets are in our "master" bedroom (one for each of us), and our "master bath" is actually a 3/4 bath (shower but no tub) that a previous owner added on in the 1960's. It's a little less than 8' x 8'. Our "master bedroom" is about 12' x 15' - so it's the size of fancy-schmanzy closets!

kitten - I think you could describe our situation exactly the same - although I'm not sure our bathroom was an add-on. I think it was original to the 1958 house. It was remodeled in the 70's, because the cabinet was different. When we just redid the bathroom last year and removed the vanity, we found green shag carpet underneath, so the tile floor was likely added in the 80's. It looks like 80's tile. And it isn't 8x8, it is actually 8 x 4.5. You have to stand north-south to dry yourself, or stretch.

We added a "master suite" to our house about 10 years ago. Love it. We have typical (for here) ranch house. We added large bedroom/bath/walk-in closet.
- Bedroom is large 18,by18 or so. King size bed, and area where we each have our own computer desks, and TV with futon couch for viewing - Large garden jacuzze tub for two, can watch TV! - We built what we thought was huge walk in closet, but somehow it is now full of stuff. I beileve the more room you have, the more junk you keep.
Our bedroom is just off the kitchen, so not to far from the coffeemaker.
It was great when we had teenagers living at the house. We had our side and their side.

Is 26x36 the whole house, the whole upstairs, or the bedroom?
