I just realized we have several of our neighbors to the north on the board, and they all seem to be heavily interested in US politics. That's probably why it's so high.

LOL! The EE board may be full of drunks, but they're the harmless happy kind. I couldn't see them getting a felony conviction. Misdemeanor drunk and disorderly in public or something, sure. Public indecency, sure. Felony... doubtful.

What a joke, no on asked me for my ID when I voted. How many times do you suppose each of the Romney supporters have voted? How many people who voted for Obama are actually alive?

In order of decending personal preference, I'd vote for....
1. Obama ( I'm a Democrat )
2. the Librarians ( that's a third party, right ) ? And books are good....
3. Romney, because he really isn't moderate enough to make me vote Republican. If his father was running, I'd have to say I'd maybe have a 30% chance of voting Republican.

There have been some good ones today. ;D I found the following on Google images. Uncle Sam 2012 edition: I think it's more fair to say we're intrigued by Americans' cult-like interest in US politics rather than the politics themselves. Remember: our elections are over in four weeks. Start to finish. Yours run for (give or take) three years. And the real kicker: as far as anyone outside the US is concerned, your two major parties are nigh indistinguishable from each other.

I'm going third party. I know people think that's a throw away vote. I refuse to keep voting in the same problem time after time. When you vote for Dems or Pubs that's exactly what you're doing.
Think about it, nobody was happy when the Pubs were in office, so they voted in all Dems. Now it appears to be going the other way because nobody is happy with what the Dems did either.
Yet, the other countries will say how stupid us Americans are. . . . Can you blame them? We keep voting in the same exact problem . . . yes different party, that's about where the differences lie.
So I'm doing what most will call the throw away vote . . . . . but at least I know that I won't be voting in the same old problem.

Beags, I'm voting for Johnson. More people than ever will be voting third party this year. I don't think it is throwing away your vote, I think it is sending a strong message to both parties: more and more voters are fed up with you. I think the day will come when we do have an elected president from a third party.

Whatever. I'm only slightly embarrassed to admit that I don't even know who the prime minister of Canada is. You guys do have a prime minister and not a president right? I will be really embarrassed if I'm screwing that up. The point is, I don't really care who you guys elect. I don't even know which parties you guys have up there, except that even the conservative ones view health care as a human right. I consider myself a fairly typical American when it comes to my general disinterest in the political goings on of our neighbors, so to me it seems weird that you guys actually follow our politics somewhat.

Wow, 5 ineligibles so far out of 78 votes. That's almost 6.5% of the respondents. I'm shocked it's that high. You didn't know we had that many Canadians here? I have to say that this thread is hysterical!!! Thanks.

Romney, because he really isn't moderate enough to make me vote Republican.
By the time the election rolls around you won't even recognize Romney. Read an article this morning which said that he's decided not to repeal 'all' of Obamacare. As the debates take place and polls begin to show what voters are thinking, Romney will change his positions to flow with the tide.

Logged my vote against the bigger threat, twas easy.
The next sign that Romney is running scared will be when he begins to detail the "tax loopholes" that he plans to eliminate. Might have to be prior to the first debate, or it will cost him.

Some Canadians do. Some don't. If I had to guess, I would say 95% of Canadians could name Pres. Obama as the current US President, and 60% of Canadians could name Mr. Romney as the Republican challenger. However, fewer than 20% could tell you what party Pres. Obama represents, and fewer than 10% could do the same for Mr. Romney. Consider that US elections run hard for (roughly) 20 times as long as Canadian elections, your major network media coverage of elections is anywhere from 30% to 70%, whereas ours peaks at 15% for all but the final few days leading up to the vote. And finally, you're ten times our size. Hence, it's fair to say that there's roughly 600 times as much broadcast coverage devoted to US elections as is devoted to Canadian elections. Plus, let's not go overboard. There are 6 "I'm ineligible votes" out of 101 thus far. That 6 comprises all non-Americans and any Americans unable to vote. It's not exactly an overwhelming wave of foreign interest.

No, Dezi. When a thread is put up as an announcement (as this one has been), it will show up twice. It shows once in the thread in which it originates and once as an announcement. Both are actually the same thread.

I've made the thread an announcement, Dezi. On the P&M board it will appear both in the announcements section and in the main board listing.
It's annoying, and there are hacks that prevent it. But it really isn't worth the trouble of installing them.

Don't you guys have your own broadcast networks though, or do you get a lot of American TV? How much time do Canadian broadcast networks spend talking about American politics? I know that ours almost never mention Canadian political news.

Yes, yes, and about 5% depending on how "interesting" the political news is.
Things like Biden's gaffes, the Romneys' horse, etc. get zero Canadian news coverage. The RNC and DNC might get five-minute news blurbs. Most of the news comes from TV and radio stations that don't respect national boundaries. Stations local to Boston, Detroit, etc.
