It's a great pity the right of free speech isn't based on the obligation to say something sensible.

You're preaching to the choir, Willing Sniper, but this particular choir respects the right of every individual to make his/her own decision with regard to spiritual belief.

[qoute]Prayer works, but you are asking the wrong question IMO. In my belief system we are all individualized pieces of God part of the whole which is God. So energy. I like that I am god.[/quote] ;D A blob of energy aren't you? Nice one, Sniper. Even the Bible agrees to the God possessing the qualities of Yin and Yang. Perhaps God also possess qualities/emotions of male and female?

I'll accept that on your word, Ahamb. That's not what your post read like, to me. There are people in the world who have attached themselves to all sorts of things. Nobody here said they were the first and only being to hold a given belief. Because a serial killer holds the same beliefs as you do (and some have), that doesn't make you in any way like the serial killer, does it? No, it does not! Let's not be making that sort of comparisons in future. To be honest, actually there was a poster who said something about Satin loving him, that is what got me thinking about it... Weird huh? I guess some men *really* appreciate those satin bed sheets.

Who said anything about you Sniper? Here is is mmhmm. Nothing personal, was reading and I thought, hmmmmm, that is all. I tend to think Satan believes in me. I'm one of his good works as an Atheist sinner Translation for Aham, since he's seeing what he thinks his there instead of what Loop actually wrote and intended. She said I think Satan believes in me. I'm an Atheist sinner and as such I think Satan can count me as one of his good works. She explains her belief - I am an atheist. But the majority of it had to do what she believed Satan believed. (If Satan did worship himself I think we would still call that Narcissism not being a Satanist.)

This is such a good thread. PLEASE don't mess it up by attacking others' views. Our job titles don't include judging others. It's interesting and I'm learning so much about religious choices. This is what a thread should be.
All the quotes just seem to add mud to the discussion. IMO quotes are for those who are unable to think for themselves - whether temporarily or permanently. Just my personal opinion, given with respect intended.

I am missing what was so controversial about Aham's post. Satanism, Satinism, LaVeyan Satanism, etc, are all just another religion.
Nothing posted in Ahem's post was disrespectful or an attack on another poster.... What did I miss?

I didn't think it was either, Arch. Also, a few more on here weren't either. It's no different than the debating on Politics or whatever. There's gonna be a difference of opinions, all the way around. Some people are just a bit too touchy, I would think, on this subject and need to realize it's a prayer thread, which everyone is going to be offended here and there. I haven't really seen any personal attacks.

I could explain it to you but then I would probably end up offending you so I'm not going to bother. Yes femme, people are super touchy about their beliefs it seems.

have we met? I think so... Apple right? Or is it Just Apple? Either works. I'm just joking with you Archie. It just seems that its pretty much impossible to not offend someone when it comes to this topic. Its like... Ginger: " I believe in God and because you don't you're gonna die a fiery death in hell, sucks to be you eh" na na na na na." Maryann: " I don't believe in God and I question your intelligence for be leap of faith/logic it must take to believe in fairy tales." Not much to say after that.

All prayers have already been answered, depending how one sees this seemingly strange concept. The answer is there before the asking,is my belief. I do also believe there is some truth to healing by thought,as we do not really have much practice,- in a manner of speaking we are simply unlearned from an early age. One could take it from "God will provide Or the universe/creator has provided"

Also I would like to point out something to all the atheists on the boards that are promoting self indulgence, and “respect” for others. Your ideals aren't anything new; in fact a charismatic young man in the 1960's by the name of Anton LaVey started a LHP "religion" based on these very ideals... These weren't new to LaVey either, Hamburger. It is common for cults and religions to appropriate long-running ideals and symbols -for instance the appearance of the 'Golden Rule' in countless religions; it lends credence to the notion that different religions are just different expressions of the same thing -that thing being inherent to all humanity.

The Golden Rule is often attributed to Jesus but in reality it has a long history, and a great number of prominent religious figures and philosophers have restated its reciprocal, "two-way" nature in various ways. Perhaps its just social common sense?

The Golden Rule is often attributed to Jesus but in reality it has a long history, and a great number of prominent religious figures and philosophers have restated its reciprocal, "two-way" nature in various ways. Perhaps its just social common sense? Yes, exactly. In that respect, Jesus is no different to Anton LaVey, mentioned earlier by Hamburger, they both offer a repackaging of certain ideas that existed for a long time before either of them. Perhaps the more tenacious of fundamentalists will try to assert that there is something unique about their religion -something that allows it to be distinguished from all the rest and so promoted as the correct one, though an objective glance suggests otherwise.

Hmmm... Prayer. What does it mean to me? It means someone is to busy, tired, or lazy to really help.

I'm sorry, could someone please point me to an Atheist on this board promoting "self-indulgence"? Or any of the other ideals this so-called "Lavey satanism" promotes?
