Ok. Sorry, what reputation were you refering to? I was not aware that she had one. I can't remember which one but one of the Popes years and years ago combined the story about the prostitute and the story of Mary Magdalene. It has been almost impossible to untangle them ever since. I believe it was Mary of Bethany (the other Mary).

One of the topics they are covering this year is chastity until marriage - I wonder how she will be able to cover that section ...
I think you and your wife should offer to take over that part. But what do I know?! I'm Jewish!
ETA: Bunnysmom raised a very good point, perhaps this woman was married, and her marriage was annulled. By the Catholic church.
Seriously, you're so concerned about this, why on earth haven't you talked to the school principal or priest?! I would certainly start there, if this was a concern for me!

Ive been scratching my head about that too Tenn... talking to 9 yr old 's about sex seems really strange. Id be more upset at that being taught in the 4th grade classroom then what the teacher did or didn't do in their personal life. If the teacher in question teaches chastity until marriage yet her students know she's unmarried and has a kid and the students know how to add one and one..... gasp!

I guess I was in 5th grade when school did the first sex ed, but I'm sure there were 9 year olds in the room and since a lot of girls get their period early it seems a good time. I had already had all of those talks with my mom at that point, but I know a lot of parents didn't.

I think you're going to drive her out, Foodiedad, and be proud that you're saving your daughter's chastity. I predict that you have either guilt or preoccupation with chastity issues in general, and your going to make this woman a target of your own problems. If you are not careful, you're preoccupation with chastity values in the 4th grade will probably drive your daughter when she is older into behaviors opposite ( how can I put this delicately ) those that you wish to achieve. You seem to have some issues which are spilling over into less than nomal avenues. Girls need training bras in the fourth grade. That doesn't mean that some lessons taught in the fourth grade by ANY teacher on the planet will keep your DD "chaste until marriage." Maybe you had a lot of tigers in your tank before marriage, and maybe you're worried that that will spill over.....you need to get some help. Your kid is going to pick up on your obsession with sex before marriage if you are not careful. This will cause a lot of problems down the road. Seriously, the least you need to do is talk with her pediatrician about your worries, and the most that you should do is get some counseling for yourself. Wow.

I thought I posted something but it didn't appear. Apologies if this is a repeat post.
FoodieDad, if this is such a huge concern for you, why haven't you addressed either the school priest or the school principal? I know you got a pat answer from the principal, but did you push him on it? Or call him back or ask him for an appt? (I know we don't always react well "on the spot".)
If I want more info on issues at my children's schools, I don't go to a message board. I do my homework, and then I do my best to take it "to the top".
The fact that most of the posters here do not agree with your POV is besides the point. You are paying for a "service", you feel that that "service" is compromised, and you want answers.
So why aren't you trying to get those answers from the people that count, rather than from us here?
That's the part that I don't get.

I'm pretty sure foodie dad would have an issue with the teacher using marijuana.

You know, I pay extra to send my kids to catholic school, just like foodie dad.
The second grade teacher has never been married and I'm pretty sure she's a virgin. Frankly, I think she needs to get laid.

I think my daughters third grade public school teacher was a virgin at forty something, and from how cranky she was all the time, I am damn sure she needed to get laid!

I remember having a teacher in third grade when I attended a private christian school who got married during the school year. Years later I couldn't help but think that she wasn't getting laid at home because she was the biggest b*tch year round.
As far as the teacher goes creepy e-stalking aside regardless if she was pregnant at 17 or 18 she finished high school, got her degree and is now a teacher at the ripe old age of 23 which I think she should be commended for. Who knows what her support system was like or if she had one but regardless that couldn't have been easy.

Frankly, I think she needs to get laid. I went to Catholic grammar and high school in the '50s and '60s. Some of the nuns should never have been in the convent let alone 'teachers'. A few of the nuns were given to the religious life by their parents. The parents paid dowries to the convents to take them in.

I don't understand how someone who sinned, if that's such a big concern, by having premarital sex is so concerned about someone who had premarital sex teaching his daughter about chastity. If he and his wife couldn't or wouldn't wait, then what makes him think that his daughter will wait ? That just seems weird to me.

That just seems weird to me. not to mention why he's so interested in her sex life. seriously in 4th grade I doubt any kid is thinking that their teacher had sex outside of marriage. at that age the opposite sex is still icky. and, as I mentioned before, it seems hypocritical to find fault with a teacher that did the same thing he and his wife did. the only difference is he and his wife had better birth control.

I know. That's scary to me, as well as how he looked up her teacher and figured out that she was slightly underage when she conceived her kid. Not only is it overkill, it's creepy. I used to be married to someone very much like that, and he doesn't have a relationship with our daughter...... She doesn't want him around.

That's not fair, guys. We probably drove him to look up her age with all of our questions. As long as he isn't stalking her on Facebook, I don't find anything creepy about trying to figure out her background.
But you need to be fair, too, Foodie. I think that is what everyone is asking. Give the teacher a chance. If your daughter has good role models at home, she will be fine.
Have you considered praying about this? That is a perfectly serious comment. Sometimes we forget that God arranges stuff His way, not ours. Maybe God wanted you to encounter an unwed mother to show compassion. Only you and He know.
Best of luck on sorting this out.

As long as he isn't stalking her on Facebook, I don't find anything creepy about trying to figure out her background. It just shows no matter what I can't/won't win in some people's eyes in this thread - They say, "Maybe you're wrong about her age..." I figure - "Yeah, that could be it - perhaps I am - let me search and see what I can find..." I find the information I found, I post it, and I am called a creep, an asshole, and other names... I am - despite how others here have portrayed me - I am not running to the school with pitchforks and torches to chase her away. Again, my first post asked How am I supposed to reconcile, "Respect yourself, your body, and no sex/children until you are an adult, plus teenage pregnancy is ABSOLUTELY THE STUPIDEST THING YOU can ever do" with the fact that her teacher is supposed to be a primary authority figure and role model?
