I know several people who were that early, but I was 13 or 14, and my daughter is an athlete and very skinny. There is a correlation between weight during early childhood and puberty. Since my daughter has always been underweight, I'm thinking she will be a little older than 10. Although I'm thinking I should start clueing her in.

When your parents had "the talk" with you - what was it like? How did they do it? What did they say? (This could either be sex or getting your period.) I'm 60. We were shown a movie about periods in about 5th grade and again in 7th grade. I had no idea what was happening when I woke up bleeding. As for sex, since I've never married, there's never been a need for the "talk", according to my mother. My sister said she got the "talk" when she came home from her honeymoon.

My mom tried to give me " the talk" just before I got married. I was 33 and had been living with my fiancé for over a year. Um, thanks mom.

I wonder what my mom has thought about my life. While I've never married, I've had two 15 year relationships. Does she really think nothing ever happened?
She knows now when I visit Colorado that I have stayed with my ex. I guess it's okay because he's an ex? ;D

I was raised with literature and honesty, so I always knew where babies come from, but at the same time, it was a very Roman Catholic household, so some items (masturbation, for example) got missed. I think that every family needs to address the basics in the best way that they can. For parents of kids in high school, and of those heading off to college, there is Dan Savage. Have any of you watched "Savage U"? It is the calmest, sanest sex discussion out there. Watch it, and then watch it with your teenaged kids if you think it's appropriate. Actually, your teenaged kids are probably watching it already. The first season just ended 6/19/12 on MTV. It's probably the most responsible programming on MTV in like, ever.

My daughter is pretty naive, and not "boy crazy" like some of her friends. She is so sweet, I just don't want to break her - you know? Your daughter is likely telling her friends "Yeah, I've got Mom totally snowed"

No kidding. I taught elem and the was at least one girl a year that started. We'd be doing warm up exercises and all of sudden, some girl from any of our classes, not just mine, would come running up to me with a panicked look on her face. I'd tell her to go straight to the office ASAP. When her male teacher would ask me what was up, he'd get THE LOOK, and that was all he needed to know!

Just be wary of his non-TV-ready stuff. Informative and correct (experts used when needed) but definitely not anywhere close PG-13 and possibly more than you want your kid to know!
