DIL had a miscarriage. Apparently she was carrying twins and they don't know if she lost one or both. As much as I wished they would take responsibility, I did not want this. We would have made it work. Pray for their recovery from this devastation and help us recover.

3cats - so sorry to hear. Could possibly be a vanishing twin, which isn't uncommon, and leaves the survivor just fine. hugs.

3 Cats: Oh NO! As much as we all have an opinion about them having more children, I think it is safe to say that no one wished the loss of a child on anyone. The first time I became pregnant I was horrified at the thought of having a child and then I miscarried and I felt even worse. Praying for you and for them. Please keep us updated.

Oh 3cats .... how awful for her. As you said, the situation may not have been ideal but losing a baby is never easy. Keeping you and yours in prayer. hmmmmm ... well, interview went well .. then the day went to shite .. .long story with school problems all topped off with a $300 parking ticket from a cop with attitude Just got back from the Boston BeerWorks ... I was SO not in the mood to cook ... and a LARGE Blueberry Ale makes things seem a bit nicer.

I have been taking some time off from the whole proboards thing for a month or so now. I had started posting more on the YM side and found myself becoming snarkier and snarkier and didn't like that in myself. However, I think that next month I will try to join back on on with the whole controlled spending thread. We have had a crazy expensive month so far. License tabs- $300, school clothes for the Boy $200+, down payment on braces $700 and that was all just in the past week! Fortunately through years of learning thanks to this thread, I was prepared for it and it didn't cripple us like it would have a few years ago. But I still need to get back on the wagon. DH and DS started playing Warmachine (a miniatures game) and I have had to put them on an allowance because I discovered that they had spent $1400! in the past month on that crap. It's mostly DH and his damn addictive personality. Snuck up on me with a lot of $25 to $35 purchases and little things here and there. Fortunately they have all of the paints, carrying cases, storage containers, etc that they should need now. From this point forward it should be much cheaper but geez louise did my head about explode when I did the math. So anywho- I should be back next month if you all will have me.

Got a text from Money Squirrel she has no power since 5:30 yesterday. Lots of wind and some rain. She just recently lost her land line. I sent her a text at 8:30 this morning and got a response at 11:30. So sounds like she is hanging tight until the storm is over. I know she did some cooking ahead and she made a cake so she could have some stress food. I think this qualifies as stress for her.
I'll have to check back later I want to know how Honey's interview went.

DIL lost the other baby today. She is recovering at home and not working at the moment. The kids start school next week and I will be watching them if she goes back to work.

28/31 NSD
I visited with moneysquirrel yesterday for about an hour and she was so calm and laid back. If I was just a few hours away from a hurricane's visit I would be stressing big time. She knows me so well, she knew i would be watching the news intently so she called to calm ME down!
Now my only stress is to wish some of that rain could be shipped up here, Today the high was 107*, yesterday it was only 105*. The humidity is about 10-14%. Tuesday night we had a heat lightening storm that started a wildfire about 20 miles west of town. Then another lightening strike started a fire about 16 miles southwest of town. This afternoon I could see a huge smoke plume from my front steps. It looked like what I imagine a volcano would look like. It was terribly dark with a pinkish orange base. It was so dark because that part of the forest had been dealing with pine bark beetle infestation for the past 10-15 years so there was a lot of dry dead fuel to burn. The really sad thing is that the terrible drought has fried up the farm ponds and the helicopters had to fly to a reservoir about 30 miles away for water. I think there were four slurry bombers flying around doing their thing. It is still burning and the town stinks from the smoke. The fire five years ago took 6 months before before my A/C furnace filters didn't come out black.
I just saw another thunder and lightening storm about 20 miles east of town!. I am willing to bet that with all that bluster there will be NO moisture in those clouds!
The really good thing about about all this extreme heat is that I'm not willing to go shopping. So all this "Not Spending" caused me to save enough to pay for my new recliner with cash and not dip into savings at all. I'm still getting used to how it "sits", and the cats are getting used to a new smell.
I just got a call from kcgal and moneysquirrel texted her that the neighbors across the street got power back. Perhaps she won't have to wait too long for power.
3cats--your family is in my prayers
Sheila-- you are always welcome!
Honey--juju going your way.
Dakota-- hows the moving going? Well I hope!
AZmom--glad to hear the vacation went well.
I may not be around much for a while. My computer is going into the "intensive care ward" in the next few days and I don't know when I will get it back.

Got another Money Squirrel text: Her neighbor across the street has electricity so she is able to power up over there. Her yard is a mess and she lost some shingles and has already left a message for the roofer. Her freezer stuff is still frozen at this point. She may see if she neighbor has room in her fridge later today. I am texting her because it takes less juice and I didn't know the situation. She said she'd check in later.

Hi Everybody! I used to be Ombud and I'm back. Since logging off a few years back, I went to work for Weight Watchers [but effectively laid off end of June], got another granddaughter [Tasha is 8 going on 9 and joined our family this year], and -- as of this morning -- am experiencing extremely tight times. For instance, I have around $200 to cover my ATT bill / food / Starbucks for the month of September [that's after paying all the other bills so I guess it's not that bad]. I would have been better off but my DD's car [remember, she moved back home with 3 kids after a foreclosure / separation?] needed serious repairs today and she is broke [still]. So I covered the repairs but now I'm broke until she pays me back. Or October. And my car windshield is cracked. Need a new one. Are we still doing this the same as before?

Now off to read up on how everyone's doing ~~ - 3cats - sorry to read the news
- Honeylicious ~~ fingers crossed for a great interview
- Sheila ~~ amazing how expensive back to school can be. GS1 is in cross country, marching band, track, bowling. School said they cap after school expenses at $600 [so does that mean I can get a break in the spring? DD will still be here as she is back in school too]

Hey Ombud! I remember you! Yep things are just about the same here, lots of quiet times though as we have less drop in traffic than on MSN. Are you still in the ClayCord area? I'm there once or twice a month, usually to get to the airport! Welcome back! 3cats- sorry to hear about the DIL miscarriaging. I know that no matter the situation the loss of life like that is difficult. sheila - good to have you back! I won't comment about the YM and snarkiness What grade is the boy in this year? Today was a spend for gas, oil change, tire rotation and dog food. All necessities but a spend none the less. Tomorrow I'm hoping that my mom is covering lunch since she recruited me into driving family to the beach for the day. Gotta get back to work! Since I'm taking tomorrow off I need to finish a new video for my website, get some graphics orders to little blue eyes and submit a new article (Forbes this time) that I promised for Friday. At least I washed the car, swept the garage, did the dishes and caught up on laundry a little!

Ombud welcome
SES- Moving day is the 18th, so we have some time. Still waiting to hear on the appraisals for both houses, but not worried about those really. Tomorrow I'm off and so is my mom and my MIL is retired, so I'm taking them out to lunch then we are going to pack up all the decor in the house. I hope we can get everything off the walls and all the knick knacks packed. If we are lucky we'll also get the unneeded kitchen stuff packed. Then we'll basically have furniture, clothes and kitchen stuff we are using. Well except for Mini-D's toys which we will pack at the end (we've already packed a bunch of them, but what is left are his favorites.)
No spending today.

I brought my lunch today for once, mainly because my back is killing me and I don't want to walk to find lunch. So pb & j for me. I hope the babies approve. I did buy donuts for breakfast but that was $2 instead of the $6 I usually spend on an omlette (again, didn't want to walk). I'm planning on spending my weekend on the couch with a heating pad (which we bought yesterday so that was a spend). So hopefully not to spendy. Blue will be ripping up the linoleum in the nursery to prep the floor for the new wood next week. If it's really hot I will go swimming. That might help my back. Other than that... laziness.
3cats - so sorry about DIL losing both. I can only imagine the hurt. hugs.

Slowly getting my check list done before the beach today. Car is just about packed (need to add my camera equipment, cold water and the dogs), I sent off my graphics requests and am getting ready to shoot a video.
Then the rest of the day will be tanning time and dog wrangling!

Money Squirrel called. She is cleaning up the branches and twigs that landed in her yard from her neighbors tree. She has a call in about her roof but she thinks it might not be enough damage for insurance to kick in. Still has no electricity. Not to much of a problem because she goes across the street to recharge. She spends the days at her house and the nights at her brother's. He only lives about 10 minutes away. She said the flooding a is in a more rural area and miles away from her house. She is taking it in stride and just waiting until she has electricity and her land line fixed. Supposedly goes back to school Tuesday, which is a in -service day. Good planning.
Good new is Kansas is getting rain and has since yesterday noon. Bring it on. We need it.
Meanwhile back at the ranch,SES has forest fires about 40 miles from town. It is so dry there, It's not close enough that she is overly concerned at this time. If you recall is has been much closer to to town in years gone by.
3 cats: Sorry to hear about the babies. That is not something I would wish for anyone to go through.

Fire Update--The fire 25 miles to the east has burned about 95 square miles, the fire 20 miles to the west has burned about 75 square miles and evacuated one small (very small) town and the fire about 15 miles south has burned about 125 square miles and evacuated many ranches and businesses and a mine. It also jumped highways to the west of town and another place to the south of town. Both of the jumps have been contained, thank goodness. If we can make it to midweek both the temperatures and wind are to drop. I don't think I am in any danger at all, I just have to deal with the stinky, smoky air.
ETA: the fire to the east has burned north and crossed the state line causing the evacuation of several small towns.
We need rain (or snow) so very badly! maybe the Reservation to the north can arrange a rain dance.
However, I will be doing NO shopping. Walmart is in the next section to be evacuated and I have no need to go anywhere else.
I did cancel the testing I was going to do early next week because the students who were going to test were evacuated last Wednesday evening until who knows when and that kind of stress would not have them doing their best work, so all the staff in my office agreed to delay everything one week. Thank goodness! I am sure the college evacuation will be over by then (positive thinking here)
Hope every one has a wonderful, and frugal holiday weekend!
