mizbear, dakota--congrats on your good news. 3cats--i am sorry about the loss of your cat, and i'm not sure how to respond about the pregnancy. honey--thanks so much for sharing the debate posts. looks like you beat me to it (and i'm so sorry for forgetting to tell you it was being published today. it crossed my mind when they were interviewing me yesterday and then, well, it went away). also, good luck tomorrow. and i have a few ideas for your business if you want them.
interesting updates here at my house. for starters, we have taken in yet another abandoned cat. i'm trying to rehome this one since she needs to be indoors and we can't keep her due to the husband's allergies but that's not going so well. we'll see. she doesn't have a tail so i think that's making people hesitant. second, the child starts kindergarten on monday. i'm both happy and sad. and third, i am waiting on some potentially good news regarding turning a series i wrote on my blog into a properly authorized book. if it goes well, i may faint from excitement.
i've given up on tracking NSD for the rest of the month. it's pretty much impossible.

Rocky Mtn Saver: 12 CSD/NSD's I should be able to get the rest of my CSD/NSD's this weekend, as we are going camping yet again. I have lots of personal and business things I need to get caught up on, so I'm hoping for a relaxing but productive trip to the woods.

mrslynch - fingers crossed you get that good news!!
Honey - ditto for you!
So I got an email from a publisher who found me online and wants me to take their copy test and be put on their roster. They said they'd get me six full length book projects a year to copyedit. If they were 400p books, each project would get me $1250. Obviously I'd set aside money for taxes and retirement savings, but still, that puts me well on the road to being able to freelance fulltime and keep the kids home. Woohoo! Now, to not mess up the test... (and I realize I shouldn't count my chickens, etc, but I'm just excited I've had three people in the past week who found me rather than me harassing THEM for work)

Thanks Rocky! I'm also excited this could give us a chance to "practice" while I'm on maternity leave, splitting shifts watching the babies and still getting our work done, etc. But we'll see what happens!

No spend yesterday, CS on Tuesday and NS on Monday. Sunday was a spend we went to a Titanic exhibit, which was cool and then out to a nice lunch just the 2 of us.
The good news is we are eating out of our pantry until we move. So our grocery expenses this month will be really small, just milk and fresh produce.
Any suggestions for things to pack last and unpack first besides the below 1 set of sheets per bed pillows cleaning supplies Vaccum Fridge/Freezer items Toiletries A couple changes of clothes
I'm going off now in search of the list I know Honey has on her blog.
By the way buying a house is expensive. I know our closing costs will be lower but we've spent almost $2500 between earnest money, inspections and appraisal fees.

dakota: I always leave out a couple of cups, bowls, a few flatware. Invariably, I'm searching for something to put water, cereal, etc in the next (or last) mornings! I also pack a suitcase to keep in the vehicle/hotel/whatever with me, just as though I was planning to be on vacation for a few days.

Honey- Thanks I found it and printed it out. I'm pretty anal about packing and moving. When it was just me and I didn't have as much stuff, I listed every item in every box. For this move we are doing more general categories, good china, serving bowls, pots & pans etc. DH came up with a 3 digit numbering system for the boxes, the first digit ID's the room or area of the house it goes then the last 2 are the individual boxes ID and we have a spreadsheet that has the contents and special instructions. That way if I pack 3 boxes for 3 different areas we can easily ID where they are to go. And we are staging the boxes by area once they are packed. Then as we get boxes packed we are going to print out labels with the area they go to the contents and any special instructions to put on each box in addition to the number system (Since our helpers aren't as invested as we are ) Rocky - That is a good addition. I think I will just put our camping picnic set on that list so we don't have to worry about separating our dish set. It has reusable plates, bowls, glasses and flatwear in it as well as cooking utensils, salt & pepper and a few other basics, like dishtowels.

dakota: for the camping picnic set idea, that's perfect! Regards labelling things, we also got ourselves a roll of string and some card-paper to label the furniture by room as well. Wrote the room name on the card-paper, poked a hole in it, and tied it by string to as much furniture as we could anything that wasn't going into a box. It was very helpful when we didn't have to personally direct Every. Single. Item. That. Came. Thru. The. Door. I still have those bright green labels tied to a couple of bed legs, though! ETA: because I realized that we labelled EVERYthing! ;D

HELLO! Goodness you would think I would have more time on my hand sitting around doing nothing while all the kids are at school but I feel like I haven't had a second to breathe. I had two kids home sick yesterday and the baby is still home sick today. Started with sniffles and a cough and now has progressed into an ear infection (first my son, then the baby) So extra money being spent on Dr. Appt and prescriptions. AND we finally saved enough money to get braces for my daughter. I feel so grown up. She went in today to get pics, molds and spacers. she will get started on the top teeth and headgear on Sept. 4! 3 Cats: So sorry to hear about your cat HUGS to you and your 9th grand baby. I don't even know what to say. Honey: Been praying for you. Great news about the second interview, I will keep praying. LOVE you moving list, it helped my move go so smooth. Dakota: Yeah! So happy for such a quick turnaround. Rocky: We went over our vacation budget by $200. It's easy to do with a family of 5. We decided to take the baby to a movie, eat out one extra time AND we bought an extra crock put and cast iron skillet because we didn't have an oven in our condo! SS: You never cease to amaze me. I hope you are feeling better soon. This sickness has made an ugly slow run through our family. I am so, so done. Red: That's great news about the freelancing work. Your maternity pics look amazing. You are so beautiful! Mrs. Lynch: Praying for faint worthy great news! Sorry if I missed anyone. AND some exciting news around here I had a second blog post featured on BlogHer you can check it out here if you wish anotherhousewife.com/?p=2894Payday was yesterday and DH and I sat down and went over our "spending plan" and even with the braces we were able to put 10% of his check in savings! I was so, so close to staying in budget at Costco yesterday. I wanted to get in and out for under $100 but spent $102 and some change... So Close! ~Happy No Spending~

Honey - yay! you can do this woman! Let the VP know you have a hoard of virtual strangers who think you're more capable than the entirety of the US Senate (which isn't saying much actually....) azmom- I wish I were a kid again and could just sleep it off without worry! Yesterday I hosted a teleclass (virtual education basically) and had to mute my own phone 4 times to cough while the students did assignments. It was not fun to be sick but the class was awesome! This morning I finally tackled the PILE of paper that I'd moved all over and finally hid in my guest room. Recycled a bunch, sorted for filing and paid bills. Felt good. Also deposited a client check and sent off a several thousand dollar proposal. It's for someone I know really well and who is super motivated to get this work done so I expect to get a deposit so we can start working together in the next week or so. And EEK less than a month to go until Miami! Super excited too.

Honey - sending lots of luck your way! That's a good step! Blue's company took months to finally nail down an offer for him, so I hear you on things taking forever! (not that it'll take months for you!)
Turns out the pumpkins in my garden are watermelons. Whoops. Thought that plant had died but I guess not! And I have three pumpkins growing out of my composter. Go figure.
azmom - aww you make me blush. Thank you. Right now I feel very not pretty lol. Hope your kiddos all feel better! And congrats on the BlogHer article! How do you get noticed by them?

And today someone contacted me for proofreading. This is just unreal... Figures it all happens when I will likely soon be unable to work for a time. I'll do what I can for now!
Happy weekend, all! Stay safe out there! (crazy shooting here in NYC - so glad Blue doesn't work in the Empire State Building anymore!)

wow red seems things are really picking up on the freelance front for you.
Mini-D most likely has strep. I'm taking him to the doctor here in a few. My dad had 2 stints put in today to reopen some clogged arteries, he came through surgery fine and should home tomorrow and able to referee soccer games by Monday. DH & I will go see him when DH gets off work.
Today was a spend I went to u-haul and picked up a second box of the plain wrapping paper and a set of dividers for a dish barrell so I can easily pack our glasses.

Just dropping by to say hello. Looks like I'll be back in September, have a few things going on in my crazy life, but I'll save that for later. I did want to share something I spotted this morning.
I've gotten a few spam emails that use the first and last names of ladies I know from WIR, but the email address is not theirs. I'm not sure if this is an account hack on their end or someone somehow using my facebook friend names to try and trick me or what. So far I've only noticed 2 people involved, but my spam is set to auto-delete after a week so I'm not sure if I missed some. I just wanted you all to be aware since both of the names are WIR friends. I messaged the two people on facebook, so if you didn't get a message it wasn't your name. I did want to bring it up so that others can check their spam.

Got SO MUCH accomplished today! Worked around the house all day and got a lot cleaned up and organized. No spending at all Tomorrow I would like to measure my cabinets for modular shelves from Ikea to go on my birthday list. I'm wasting so much space in certain cabinets that shelves will maximize my storage area. I'm going out once this week for business but otherwise shouldn't have many expenses this week. Oh, except getting an oil change and balancing my tires.

Update: 20 NSDs 2 CSDs -- Had a very busy week including the meet the teacher night. I was slight wiped out for the rest of the week after that. Yesterday was a spendy day but most of the other days were NSDs. Not too sure what today will be but I currently have no plans to leave the house.
Honey -- Wishing you good juju for the second in-person interview. I know you will do well. I also know that you are adjusting to your new student -- hoping that this year's experiences will erase some of the memories of last year.
Can't remember what else I wanted to comment on. Will try to check in later and more often.

Had a somewhat spendy weekend as we bought birthday gifts for Blue's sister and brother and two of his cousins (begrudgingly for those two as it was no planned and we have never done so before but there was a party and he felt obligated blargh). Will have to up our gift budget for next year as Blue's sister is expecting baby #3, which I'm totally psyched about as she's only 3 months behind me and my kiddos and hers will hopefully be good friends growing up.
Now to transfer funds out of the gifts fund to cover said birthday gifts (at least I have a fund!)
I'm also going to start Christmas shopping for the kiddos in our lives. Get it done now so I don't have to later when I have my own kiddos to deal with. All adults we give gifts to will be getting framed portraits from the newborn session we're having done, so that will be easy. Just need to figure out sizes and start buying frames when they are on sale at Michael's. No one expects gifts from us this year so anything will be good. Oh, and I'll probably still bake mini banana breads for our cousins cause they probably won't want photos so much.

I had 2 NS and days 1 Spend. Friday we used a GC to go out to dinner so NS there. Saturday it was packing and a BBQ for me. DH had to stay home with mini-D who had strep. Then last night I met 2 girls I went to college with for dinner. They are both divorced and have had a lot of struggles over the years. After dinner the 2 of them decided to go to the hotel bar and get drunk on a Sunday night. That made me so thankful for the life I have. I came home and hugged DH & told him that I was so glad I have him.

another NSD on Sunday - it helps that I slept half the day! I was up until 7am reading since I couldn't settle down to sleep and then slept until noon.
The garage is looking so much better! And I've been cleaning up the house and catching up on chores like laundry and the dishes. So much still to do!
I'm heading to Florida pretty soon for a week and so working on the packing list and getting everything ready.

Hello, I know I have been MIA this month but I plan on doing some serious tracking in September. I am still adjusting. I also decided to start another blog. It will focus on weight-loss and my work-outs. Right now I plan on keeping it separate from everything else I do and anonymous from my friends (excluding you all) and family. Right now I just need accountability so I needed somewhere to write down those thoughts and have a place to give quick updates. Here is the link if you want to check it out theincredibleshrinkinghousewife.wordpress.com/ If you do let me know what you think of the premise. RED: I just opened a BlogHer account, anyone can and I sometime add blog post from my blog (no double writing) onto my personal profile. I average about 4 views per post! There are a great number ways to network and get your name out there but I don't have time for anyone - which is why it is so awesome to have them select not one but TWO of my random post. All see you in September.

Today is another no spend, focusing on food from the pantry that can go with me to Florida and made my own trail mix today: sunflower seeds, granola, raisins, reeses pieces, and almonds!
FINALLY have a release date for the article - it's coming out in the New York Times this Sunday and I did my fact and quote check today. Just a TINY BIT nervous lol. I don't know why, I've been in Forbes and Washington Post and had over 50 submissions in the past 8 months alone. But it's the NYT! And I want to know what picture they chose!

azmom - thanks! and i love the new blog title!
startsmart - I might actually have to buy the NYT this Sunday!
gardening tips? This year my garden got taken over by grass, I'm guessing from the compost. Next year I want to plant my plants and then do SOMETHING to stop weeds/grass from growing. I just can't keep up with it all, and I'm sure I'll be less able to do so next year with two babies. Any advice is welcome! I read that if we put cardboard and mulch over it over the winter that might help in the Spring... so we might try that.
