Honey- GOOD luck! Prayers and good thoughts coming your way!
I've strung together 2 NS days in a row now. As long as I don't end up spending anything today.

Okay - getting ready to leave for the interview ... very very nervous .... Oh ... and I meant to tell everyone ... I am working on starting a small business for myself ... this is something I could continue on the side when I do have a full time job.
It would be helping local real estate agents with clients who need help getting organized and/or cleaned out of their houses because they need to move or are in a short sale situation.
If you have used any of my organizational tools in the past or if I have helped you with a process for getting organized in any part of your life: Dealing with death in the family, moving, estate planning etc .... and you feel so inclined .. I would appreciate any/all recommendations or feedback you would care to share.
You can send them to me at quiltinglioness@juno.com
Thanks in advance and I will let you know how the interview goes.

Well ... my first reaction is that the interview did go well. There were some really promising comments made by the HR person. However I have felt that other interviews have gone well also and then didn't hear back ... so fingers crossed that I get a call back early next week.
Thank you all for your good thoughts, prayers etc.

Update: 15 NSDs 1 CSD
Just poping in with a quick update between errands/chores to say hello. I am back in school with a vengence as you can see with my numbers. So far this week it has rained every day as the bell rang for dismissal. I didn't have to stop anywhere on the way home from school so I was able to pick up several NSDs.
Honey-- Hoping that the person who interviewed you will recognoze what a gem you are and that the job is tailor made for you.
Dakota -- Glad to read about the house selling/buying. When is the big moving day?
3cats -- So sorry to read about your lost. '
start -- I wish I had your energy

Saturday was a no spend since I stayed at home and worked then crashed. Today will be a spend because I've got to fill up the car with gas, then get a few groceries.
Woke up Saturday with a scratchy throat and headache and it's only gotten worse over the weekend. Most of today has been sucking down tea and watching Bones on the couch. I'm heading out to clear my head up a little and get some fresh air.

Honey - hoping to hear good news!!
We spent on food and gas this weekend as we were travelling up to MA for my shower. Had a great time, got a lot of necessary items for babies and a lot of fun stuff too. Feeling a little more prepared for them now!!

Ok ladies, I have a question...
Now that vacation season is in swing or just about done, how did everyone feel they did/do about staying on budget while on vacation? I find it soooo much harder to say 'no' while on vacation! Not always big things, but little things like unplanned shopping or meals out. How do you all deal with the problem? Any strategies to deal with vacation budget-busting temptations??

This year was a little odd for us. We'd anticipated spending a LOT of money on vacation (Alaska cruise) so comparatively we spent very little up in Maine. We kept joking that we had to spend another $4k. But our view generally is that vacation is to be enjoyed, so we should enjoy it! we did some grocery shopping for breakfasts and snacks, which helped keep costs down, but we definitely enjoyed our dinners out, although none were terribly expensive (not by design, just stuff was pretty cheap up there). I bought a few things (a haunted railroad station from a Halloween village - I'm starting one; some Christmas ornaments that I found cute; a Sea Bag [made from recycled sails]). But really it was a very low-budget trip for us compared to what we would have been doing. That said, we are now planning a long weekend in Vancouver for next spring to use up our plane tix that were supposed to get us to Alaska, so that trip will cost money. So really we'll get two vacations out of the original Alaska budget, and probably STILL spend less than we would have.
I realize this probably isn't helpful to you at all lol.

We did okay. We tent camp so our lodging costs are low. We ate breakfast at the campground every morning and this year all but one day had a picnic lunch, which was good, because it rained every afternoon and we ended up eating dinner out most nights instead of cooking at the campsite like we planned. Some of the attractions didn't take as long as we thought they would so we ended up going a few extra places than we planned for and so those costs were a little higher. We do tend to treat ourselves a little more to treats or souvenirs when we are traveling. We ended up about $100 higher than I expected because of all the dinners out.
Moneysquirrel- September 18th is moving day! Less than a month.

Rocky - I tend to budget for the big items and then take out cash I can use indiscriminately while on a trip. Of course when I travel with blue eyes he tends to treat for coffee and drinks and such.
I just booked my next conference and I got direct, round trip flights for $250 (after a $25 credit), the condo is going to be $200 for 6 nights because I'm sharing with 10 friends and I reserved the rental car which is $200 - or $30 each when split 7 ways.
So including the tickets to the conference it's looking at $1000 for 7 days in Florida. The condo has a full kitchen and we have a car so I'll likely have breakfast and lunch prepared at the condo.
The only other "major" expense will be $30 to go snorkeling on the reef - the rest of my time will be spent at the beach or relaxing at the condo.

Honey - any news on the job?
Spending update: I went grocery shopping on Sunday and also got some gas for the car. But no spending on Monday thanks to feeling sick and today I'm probably going to stay in as well.

I think I'm still underestimating how much 'fun money' cash I need to take with me when I travel. I'm great at budgeting for tix and rooms and stuff, but it's the impulse buys that get me. It's never terrible -- this trip it was things like books from a great used bookstore and wine from a winery we visited, that kind of thing. I've been trying to be more accurate with my 'fun money', but I'm still coming up a little short regularly. But I just realized that yesterday was a CSD, so I'm up to Rocky Mtn Saver: 11 CSD/NSD's

3cats - number 9?
So I finally got the info on my raise for this year, and it's actually not just CoL. Score! Should add about $80 a month which will come in handy with babies on the way! Contemplating having Blue up his 401k contribution by 1% but I fear that might completely negate the raise. Maybe I'll wait until spring when he gets HIS raise (hopefully). In any event, glad to have received one of the highest raises at the foundation this year after years of getting token raises. Plus they're going to throw me a baby shower next month. Woo cupcakes!

3cats- do you mean that your not so dear son and daughter in law are pregnant again? Do you have 8 grandkids now?
red- congrats on the raise - instead of 401(k) contributions you could funnel that $80 into a "kids only" savings account. I'm sure with doctor co-pays, wellness visits, diapers and all that... stuff you'll put it to good use! Especially with twins - one doc visit and twice the cost from what I remember with the boys! Oh my stars, the boys are 15. I'm going to crawl under a rock and cry now. I'm old.
rocky - it's *really* hard to estimate everything you want to buy on vacation. I remember a memorable trip to visit Firebird when she took me to a used bookstore and the budget was OUT the window! I nearly had to buy a new suitcase too which would have been bad as well. A lot of the time I try to find one item that's really special instead of little crappy things (books don't count, I'll always buy books). Last year in Florida I found a beautiful blue and white glass manatee ornament in Key West. And, just for fun, a plush sea turtle in Key Largo where I went snorkeling. I'm really surprised I didn't find anything in Sedona this spring except a thousand or so pictures.
Despite the fact I'm heading to Florida in less than a month I'm already thinking ahead to my trip in October. I have so much I want to see and do in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, I'm wondering if a week will be long enough. Luckily I should have free places to stay for most of the trip - family I nannied for live in NJ close to the train station and there are several members of my networking group I could stay with in the city. Ah, trip planning, I love it!

start - We've been putting money into the "Baby Fund" all year but maybe I will just keep shoveling this into that. Or a 529 for them. College is only 18 years away... Thanks for the input!

As of this moment I have 8 grandkids and 2 great grandkids. Number 9 is due in either march or April. And he had the nerve to quote Psalms 127 to me. It doesn't matter that they have to have 2 jobs each and two of the kids who are living at home working. Let's populate the earth even though it is over populated now. She is 40 and I asked about the risk of birth defects? We will wait and see.

Great debate, ladies! Gotta side with MrsLynch on this one though. It's not a black or white issue and some teens are responsible enough (like Jana was) to use it properly and learn great money lessons from it. And it can always be taken away if the teen doesn't learn their lesson!

Found a web designer who will redesign both my editing site and my baby blog for a reduced (and extremely reasonable) rate. Turns out she has triplets and is a softie for other multiples moms. Sweet! Can't wait to work with her on making each site unique!

Very cool Honey & MrsL. I was like Jana, I had a card, but never used it. My mom was actually a bit peeved at me when I got back from a trip to Europe in high school and hadn't gone parasailing because I didn't have enough money left. She said it would have been okay to use the card for that. 3cats- Hugs At least you'll have a cute baby to cuddle? Anyway I've been so wrapped up in getting everything squared away on the houses, that I haven't been paying attention to my spending. I don't think I've spent much at all this month, but I honestly am not sure. We close on the 18th on both houses, get possession of the new on the 18th and relinquish possession of ours on the 21st. So we will have a couple days overlap in case we don't get it all moved in one day. So moving day is 26 days away. Luckily we have a ton of boxes. My assistant works part time at a Hallmark store and saved 4 days of boxes for me, which was about 30 nice sized boxes, then DH was able to grab a bunch of heavy duty boxes that text books were shipped in before they hit the recycling bin and someone DH works with moved recently and is going to give us all their boxes. So hopefully we'll have enough to pack in. If not my assistant said she can bring us more from her other job.
