On behalf of suzi and all of the gals here, WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! If you have never clipped a coupon, or even if you have been using coupons for years, we'd love to have you join us. We are a crazy, fun-loving, and very friendly group of gals just chatting with one another about how to save big money using coupons. We are willing to help anyone, at any level, in any way that we can. Don't think that you have to read through the pages and pages of posts to join in - most of it will be old, out-of-date information anyway. Just go to the last page of the thread and introduce yourself. Tell us what area of the country you're from and where you shop (grocery stores, national chain stores, Target, WalMart, etc.). We'd love to have you join us on a regular basis, so don't be shy - just jump right in, have some fun, and save a ton of money in the process!! Since we are trying to foster a sense of true community on this thread, please try your best to keep your fellow couponers in mind when you post. Here are some suggestions: NEWBIES/OLDIES: If you post a HOUND ALERT requesting coupons from others, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE also post which insert/where the coupon can be found (Example: 1/2 SS) so that we can find it easily without having to research it ourselves. ALSO, if you need the coupon for a specific deal, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE try to remember to post the deal with your HOUND ALERT so that someone who may have the coupon(s) can decide whether they want/need to do the deal before sending out any of their coupons. THANKS!! POSTING ABOUT A DEAL / HOT COUPON: Some people get overwhelmed by the number of posts and only have time to skim the posts for the information that they need the most. If you are posting a deal, please post something that makes it stand out like "CVS DEAL ALERT" or if you are posting to tell us that there is a new, hot coupon available, please post something like "$3/1 WHOLLY GUACAMOLE IP ALERT". We want to make this thread as fun, friendly, and helpful as possible. These suggestions will save EVERYONE a lot of time when they are trying to "catch up" and read through past posts. Okay, now let's have some FUN!! ;D

Nathan from WUC did his first transaction tonight at CVS. I don't know if I had anything to do with it, but here's the story.
A couple of weeks ago he posted a vlog (video blog) at Walgreens. At the very end he pointed out the CVS across the street but admitted that he had never shopped there. Since all his drug chain vlogs were at WAGs, I just assumed that that was the only drug chain available to him.
I posted and gave him a little crap (in a nice way), telling him that I WAS SHOCKED that he had a CVS but did not shop there. I think I also posted something about it on the Grocery Challenge. I mean, how can you call yourself Mr. Coupon if you have a CVS and don't shop there!!
Anyway, Nathan is no longer a CVS virgin. It will be interesting to see how long it takes before he is rarely shopping at WAGs.

It has been reported second hand that if you used the $3/2 cleanser and the BOGO Body Wash P&G Qs, your $10 rebate will be rejected.

It has been reported second hand that if you used the $3/2 cleanser and the BOGO Body Wash P&G Qs, your $10 rebate will be rejected. That stinks! I have a rebate ready to mail out today. I'll probably hold off to get something else. You ladies have been doing great at CVS but nobody's mentioned shopping at Rite Aid this week. There are oral care booklets out which make buying Crest toothpaste and Crest mouthwash MM's when combined with MQ's. Crest is on sale for $3.00-$.75 MQ-$1.00 RAQ=$1.25 and nets a $3.00 UPs, limit 2. I've been very busy this past week spring cleaning my house. I'm down to the laundry room and kitchen and hope to be done by this weekend. I also hope to have my new washer after using all my HI giftcards. I have my nephew coming over to help this morning. I pulled a muscle in my neck this morning and hope I can doctor it back to normal. Dancin: I made your cheating beans recipe a second time and will have to double the recipe from now on. It is a big hit at our house and DH and DS would like to have more leftovers.

Finally. This was a decent week for fresh veggies. I was able to get sweet corn, broccoli and asparagus all at good prices. Fruit was not bad either. Bought 2 cantaloupe and cherries. Of course, I got the slaw mix at Safeway and bought a romaine for a bit more than I like.
Just booked myself a FREE breakfast out for 8/8.
Got my ads for the Thur grocery sales here. Strange. NO $5 Friday deals at Safeway.

There's no way it's been enough time for someone to send in the rebate and have it rejected. Not that it couldn't happen, but it would be the first time I've heard of P&G rejecting a rebate for coupon use. Remember when they used to do that "spend $50 on P&G, get back $120 in coupons" thing? They would flat-out say that the $50 could be before coupons.

emhalf,
I sent mine 2 weeks ago based on RA sale. I have not received any rejections yet. You bet I will be talking to P&G if that is the case.

I already mailed my out but still how would I know that before hand? Where on that rebate did it talk about coupons and what ones I can and can't use to get the rebate? I have actually done NBPR rebates that clearly say the amount needed to spend is more than X amount after all coupons but that rebate didn't say anything like that.

Like I said, it has been reported second hand. Someone on WUC saw it posted on another site and it is being argued among posters, so there is still some hope that they will come through. I just sent one out yesterday and have one to send out to my mom's addie. I'm holding off on that one. No need to maybe waste a stamp.

They would flat-out say that the $50 could be before coupons.I sure do. They did not offer those booklets for 2012. I wonder if it had to do with the lack of popularity. In late 2010, after we had all submitted our receipts and received them the "hard way" (for2011), they later offered them on Facebook just for liking them. I was able to get (6) booklets in all. My fav coupon in that book was the $3/1 Swiffer. It did not specify what Swiffer it was for, so I called P&G and asked if it could be used on the refill pads and/or liquid, and they said that it could. This was around the time that they had had problems on EC especially with P&G coupons so I did not want to assume its proper usage or have a cashier question it (which none of them ever did). Since I had (6) booklets with (3) $3/1 coupons in each one, I was able to stockpile that stuff like crazy at CVS when they had it on sale for $3.99 and giving EBs after you bought a certain dollars worth. I felt as though I had hit the jackpot. I'm sure I used several Qs out of that booklet, but the only other one that stands out was a $1/1 Gain dish liquid which made the small bottles free several times before the coupons expired which equaled (18) free bottles for me. I like the Dawn better;but hey, for free, I'll like the Gain too!! ;D

Welcome Busymom! Your name says it all, doesn't it? I remember those days well.
Dancin, beachbum and constanz22: Thanks for the heads up on the $5 EB for the CVS beauty thing. I do remember it coming from the red machine but I also remember getting one immediately on my receipt. Guess they changed things up.
I'm still going to send in the Olay rebate form. I usually cover up the coupon deductions with an overly large address label. Will let you know what happens but I didn't have any problem with the Olympic $10 rebate and I used all kinds of P&G q's for that one, too.

Hi friends, long time lurker, first time poster! Dancinmama has invited me to post over here a few times but I was prepping for a wedding, so I had zero time. Now that all of that is over and done with, I can jump in on the fun! It's just me, DH, and our puppy for now. We're new homeowners and newlyweds planning on paying down our student loans and then tackling having a family. I shop mainly at CVS, Shoprite, and Weis/Mr. Z's. I lived in FL for 3 years where there was no coupon doubling and very little savings to be had in the grocery stores, so coming back north has been a big jackpot for me! I stockpile all of our HBA items and as much grocery items as we can. Last week at CVS was pretty good for me, I got the free Stayfree maxi pads after the $2 coupon and a rain-check for 2 more because they were out of stock. I also got CVS coupons out of the magical red machine for $2 off any CVS bodywash and $2 off any bar soap which I redeemed for the Yardley and a bottle of CVS bodywash. I am pretty well stocked now on soap items so unless it's no OOP, I'll probably just pass it up for awhile. I haven't been to the grocery store in the last 2 weeks because we've been so busy, so it was nice to eat up some of our stockpile and create room for new deals . Tonight I'll be getting some basics and doing a little couponing, but not too much. I haven't found an ad in several weeks that I was excited about! I'm also teaching my aunt about couponing and stockpiling so we're working together to come up with scenarios and helping each other out. I have been reading here for the past few months and while I consider myself a pretty good couponer I don't match up to your levels! But I'm here to learn and help as I can. I do work full time so I'll check in sporadically

I am doing stockpile inventory this week and creating an inventory list on my computer so that I can tell at a glance what/how much I have and what I might want to get if I have rewards to burn.
In doing this, I realized that I should probably beef up my Ziplocs stockpile and RA is having a pretty good sale starting 8/5. They are BOGO/Get $5 in UPs when you spend $20. I will be able to add (12) boxes to my stockpile and only burn $10 UPs (net) of the $45 in UPs that I am holding.
$12.87 (6) BOGO @ $4.29 7.38 (4) BOGO @ 3.69 $20.25 1.67 Sales Tax $21.92 Subtotal - 15.00 (3) $5UPs - 5.00 (5) $1/2 Ziploc (7/15 SS) 1.92 OOP --> $5UP
Losing $10 in UPs to stockpile $40.50 in product is not too bad.
I'll still have $35 in UPs left (from the second Home Improvement GC deal) that I will need to spend by 8/15. Since the ad previews are up, I guess I need to see what else will be a good deal that I need to add to my stockpiles. I'd do the Ziploc deal again, but I doubt that my store will have enough stock to do that.

I had my first two CVS couponing excursions this week and I can see what you mean by their savings. One - $1 off hair accessories, 50 cents EB, BOGO so two items totaled almost $10 and I paid $3. Two - $1 off crest, $2 off hair products, 20% off purchase netted me toothpaste (on sale), crew hair gel, and shampoo (on sale) for dh Bad news - My guess was WAY off in household/grocery spending per month. In making the new spending plan after DH's raise i went back 3 months and itemized all spending into excel spreadsheet. I had done this a few years ago but once our income rose I didn't really keep track much. We are averaging almost 800 dollars a month!!!! Now this includes groceries, household products, makeup, shampoo, etc. pet food - everything; but it was still shocking. My goal is to get it to 600 and maybe lower. I went to the store this weekend which included meal planning, list making, coupon checking and could not find ANY coupons for what we needed which was almost all meat, cheese, produce. So I just shopped what was on sale for the most part. Our grocery store had organic chicken on sale so I bought a bunch for example. I then sorted my receipt by spending and saw that it broke down like this: 80 - meat, 70 produce (35 organic, 35 non organic), 40 gluten free and specialty health items and the rest on misc. I'm making a spreadsheet with items in it so I can see which items to buy at rock bottom prices and stock up a bit. On the plus side this will last us a long time and the meat maybe for the whole month. I think it will take me a few months to get a handle on this but if I can save on CVS stuff more and learn to stockpile sale items better, maybe I'll make some headway. We are so blessed that we do have the money, it just seems wasteful.

We are so blessed that we do have the money, it just seems wasteful. If the meat lasts you for the whole month, that would be awesome. Like you, most people just do not realize how much they are actually spending on groceries, household products, HBA, and pet food. It can add up pretty darn quickly - especially these days. There are so many items that most of us here haven't had to pay for in a very, very long time either because we already have them in our stockpiles or because we can "buy" them for free by combining a sale, coupon(s), and/or reward(s). It saves more money than a lot of people realize. It doesn't happen overnight, so don't get discouraged and let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Here's a question for you Safeway shoppers out there (Vons, Kroger, Dominicks, etc.). They are having their buy $75 get $10 off your next shopping trip promo again. Is the $75 before q's or after?

Yup, the $4/$20 coupons scan without a beep! I buy from tylam2000 ($1.48 for 5 coupons) and you get the coupons emailed to you right away. Just print and shop!
Just stopping by to report a couple good finds. I found clearanced Huggies Slip On Diapers (size 3) at Walgreens today for $3.19 a package. There's a $4 coupon in the monthly coupon booklet (adjusted down to $3.19 each automatically) - so FREE diapers!
Its also been reported on SD that there's a $1 August monthly UP on the Lanacane. Its $5 this week with a $5 UP (Limit 1) so with the monthly UP, it becomes a $1 moneymaker!

As per usual, I have checked out my local area bloggers. NONE are really remarking on anything on sale at the natl chains. One did NOT even mention either of the natl chains. Oh well. I can use any extra $ for the week stocking up at Aldi or the bread outlets. One did have a list of the $5 Fri specials-NOTHING for me.
Checked my J4U and deal matches at Safeway. NOTHING!!!
That 6 lb bag of chicken leg quarters I bought Tue was 6 pieces. I’ll probably get 9 servings (6 dinners & 3 lunches) as the thigh portions are HUGE and 2 drums = lunch.
Got a 20% off email coupon from Kohl’s BUT it is only good Fri-Sun and I HAD planned to shop there today. By by Kohl’s. I do NOT need/want rack prices.
My best CVS was down to only1 bottle of the vitamin I needed on Tue (on sale BOGO). Store mgr said he ‘might’ get more Wed but I will check my close CVS today as I have a $3 coupon I NEED to use (will be 0.79 + tax after q).

I am sorry with all the questions but I have another question. Some of the deals say 1 per household but I have gotten more than 1 EB for the repeat purchase in some instances. If at the bottom of the receipt it doesnt say limit reached, can I keep on doing the same deal? For example, Herbal Essences deal, it is supposed to be 1 EB limit but my receipt does not say limit reached. Last week or the previous week (cant remember which), I did the garnier deal (spend 15, get 5 EB) twice and got EBs twice.

I have been buying $10 off $10 purchase coupons from ebay. I have not had any problems. I bought a whole bunch of stuff for my new place (going through divorce). The only caviat is you can only do 1 per customer, so I either go to different cashiers or differnt days. You can get 10 of the coupons (so total $100 off but cannot be combined) for $3-5. I am going to try the CVS coupons too. I wasnt sure about those because they are issued to specific cards but I guess they found a way around it

I actually had one from the big red machine for something I didn't want but it got stuck to my other coupons. The girl scanned it and it went through no problem. When I saw it I got all embarrassed and told her that I hadn't bought whatever it was so that coupon needed to be voided. Her response was that since it was a generic coupon she didn't care. It really is strange how those coupons go through without a beep but a coupon for my card with the card number right on it will beep like it found the unibomber when I try to use it for what is clearly the exact item it said.

It is a big hit at our house and DH and DS would like to have more leftovers. rubyslippers: I am so glad that your family likes the beans. They are sooooo much cheaper than buying Bush's and don't take too much effort to dr. up. Thanks for posting the Crest deal. It was completely off my radar, so I REALLY appreciate it (which is what this board is all about). If DH wants to "get out", which he often does and we go across town, I'll definitely look into doing this scenario: $6.00 (2) Crest 2.50 Fillers 8.50 -5.00 UP (Home Improvement GC) -2.00 (2) $1/1 (Oral Care booklet) -1.50 (2) $.75/1 (7/29 P&G) Pay sales tax and get exchange my $5 UP for (2) $3 UPs. NOT BAD AT ALL!! I also like the fact that there are a lot of different sizes and flavors of Crest to choose from. I'd like to see if I can find some that doesn't expire until 2014. What do the oral care booklets look like (size, colors on the cover) and where did you find them? Do I have to have a separate booklet coupon for each Crest that I buy?

The oral care booklets are small booklets (similar to the allergy booklets from earlier this year)found either in the front of the store next to the ads or in the pharmacy.
There are also 1$ coupons for Oral B, which makes the Indicator TB free - which are on sale this week 3 for 3$. Buy 3 OralB Indicator TB, use 3 1$ Oral care Q and get back 2$ cat (if your store has a catalina machine). But using 3 1$ booklet Q may also depend on your store.

Okay, so to do the Crest deal I am going to need (2) coupons from the oral care booklet. I don't know what the allergy booklet looked like cuz I was probably out of RA when people were using it. I am going to assume I'm looking for something about the same size at WAGs monthly booklet.

They have been located near the front on the same (back of) the display that holds the ads in my stores. DON'T FORGET there's a $2/2 Reach TB coupon in there and a $2/2 on coupons.com (if it's still available), getting them all free AND they are part of the "spend $30, get $10 Up" deal. I did a combination of Reach TB's and Visine (also almost free with 20% discount, $2 in ad Q and $2 MC/IP/tearpad) for almost NO OOP and got a $10 Up.
