There are lots of things you will do as a parent that will be "good enough" parenting and not the best option. The TV may be on more than you like because you are sick. Your child may end up eating only mac and cheese for a day because you don't want to fight with him to eat his vegetables.
It is a myth that everything you do in life will be the best thing for your child. Sometimes you settle for good enough. Frankly breastfeeding for a year is hardwork. I've done it, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize how hard it can be without the support and help I had to do it. I am actually less inclined to go the extra mile to breastfeed this baby. I will do it assuming she has no issues latching, but if I have to exclusively pump, forget it.
I want women who want to breastfeed to be able to do it as long as they want. Until our society provides the support they need to make it happen, then no amount of saying "breast is best" matters because our actions as a society just don't back that up.

So, we aren't talking about a lifetime decision - we are talking about 2 days. I see it as the relatively privileged pushing an agenda on women's bodies and their choice on how to feed. It is not helped by the fact that a billionaire is the one pushing poor women around either.

I think that breast feeding is a personal decision. It should be based on the mother, the child and what works best for the family. If I ever could have a baby- I can't breastfeed- I take too many medications. I was not breast fed- I was lactose intolerant, so I took soy based formula (until I got hold of some lemon-lime gatorade when I was 3 months old- the pediatrician told MommaBear to give me that once or twice a day and forget the formula since I didn't like it anyway). Most of my cousins tolerated breast feeding very well. But a couple of us- not so much.
Of course we had an unfair advantage- my great aunt was one of the local hospital's head OB nurse and LC.

Wait - mizbear - did you just say that you were fed gatorade as a baby instead of formula?
