Just a quick check in while my computer, rather the internet, is working. Seems that whenever we get a day above 105* I lose my internet. Of course, this hot weather sure prevents spending. I will spend tomorrow, some of my friends are meeting for an early breakfast in a very air conditioned cafe (NSD- using my allowance) then stop for a few groceries. Stay cool everyone!

Students - I talked to the hosting representative this week and explained the current situation to her. She said she appreciated my letting them know and agreeing to still take the one girl from Germany. I let them know that once I am working again I will let them know and be open to taking a mid-year transfer student. I must say I was very nervous about this conversation - and feeling as though I was letting them down. But I do feel a LOT better now that the matter is resolved. Updates - Post your numbers this weekend and I will post a re-cap on Monday. dakota - Glad to see you are making progress on getting the house ready to list. I do have one quilt project in the works - just waiting to receive some of the materials. As for the canning - I don't strain my sauce. Sometimes I will peel the tomatoes before cooking them - more often than not I cook the entire tomato and use a stick blender to smooth out the sauce just a little as I like my sauce chunky. And using the stick mixer it will catch a lot of the loose tomato skins that I can discard. startsmart - I see that like me you also are not a fan of white walls .... YEAH!!! mizbear - Fingers crossed that the sale goes through. *********************************************** Question of the Week:With all the bickering and double talk that seems to come from Washington D.C. as well as our own state capitals – what one thing would you tell the President, or your Governor if you could. Challenge of the Week:Go online and get the e-mail for your Senator or Governor (a full listing and contact information can be found at www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml ) and send them a message expressing how you feel about a particular issue. To motivate you here is a scary statistic: They estimate that less than 1 in 100 people who feel deeply about a matter will actually take the time to write. So your one message can carry the weight of a 100 basis points.

Personal update:Just to share - I am sick as a dog. I started feeling "punky" Thursday night. When I woke up Friday morning I was running a fever and had a wet hurtful cough. The kind where when you cough it feels as though there is an army of small men with large grit metal sandpaper are rubbing the inside of my breast bone. OY ... I really think being sick during the Summer is the worse. But I hate feeling as though I might just possibly be bringing up a lung.. :-(

Honey- HUGS
QOTW- I can honestly say I have been spoiled in my district. Our state and federal legislators have made themselves very accessible. Most of the ones in our area have blue collar backgrounds and get right lippy when they get behind a cause. ;D
COTW- We are currently at this time fighting for a new bridge, keeping our postal processing center, and fighting over our new hospital as well as a few other issues.

Honey - so sorry you're not feeling well! Somehow it's always worse in the summer when you want to be out in the fresh sunshine. Hope you're feeling better soon.
I finally updated my blog with more pictures of the master bedroom project! I should be starting on paint for the headboard today (and it's going to be a bear, I know it) but other than hanging more pictures and the baseboards the room is just about done!
Been trying to catch up on the lawns since they were growing out of control but there's an issue with my outside outlet and every time I try to finish mowing a stubborn patch it blows the circuit breaker. So I'm going to hack it down with the string trimmer and look into replacing that CB the next time my dad is here. It's times like these I wish I were working at the electrical contractor since I could pick one up at cost from the warehouse.
Another project I'd like to finish today is painting the bookshelf shelves so they can go back in. So many coats.... and the AC grate cover is just about done too. I need to give the screws a quick coat of paint so they match but otherwise I think I can get that installed today.
Trying to stay inside today since it's heating up again (a week of 70 degree weather was a nice break!) and I have plenty of work projects to do. If I get really motivated I'll go back to sanding the ceiling in the hallway and prepping it for paint. That's the next project (mostly so I can put pictures back up - these blank walls bug me!) because it's going to be another few months before I'm ready to empty another bedroom to work on those ceilings.
Sweat equity is good and all but lots of hard work!

Update: 10 NSD 5 CSD
Managed to get a few more NSD lately but that has mainly been due to the fact that we have been under heavy storms and rain the last few days. Some areas of the city had over 10 inches of rain within a 16 hour period. I decided that with several streets being flooded for periods of time that I would stay home and try to get some things done around the house. Too much at one time for things to drain immediately.
StartSmart -- I like your room. I think that it close to the same shade that I use as an accent color in several rooms of my house as well as my sofa. I used a basic gray as my wall color and the red works well with it.
Honey -- Glad that you made the decision and sorry that you are feeling under the weather.
dakota -- Good luck on the house. I know this has been a while in the making. When does DH go back to work? I know that I seem to be returning earlier and earlier.
mizbear -- Good luck with all you have going on. I noticed that there are several items that fall into this area.
redwagon -- remember to rest as often as you can as you will have several years ahead of you with much running around.
azmom -- Continue to enjoy your vacation.

Yesterday was an NS, DH & I had a date night and used a gift card for dinner, then came home and watched a DVD. Today was a spend, DS has a b-day party tomorrow and he wants goggles for his swim lessons, so I got him some, when we bought the present.
Honey- I know how you feel. I am so congested and my head feels like it is ready to explode. I got mine from DS. Today I laid down with him and he fell asleep on top of me.
Money- DH goes back for math camp next week. If it for the 8th graders entering, and it is 8-11 M-F. Then he has a week off and then a week of prep and kids come back the 2nd full week of August.

Rocky Mtn Saver: 7 NSD, 6 CSD (<$5). Yay, got caugh up on NSD's! Camping wasn't quite as rainy as I'd feared, but we did have to deal with a pesky bear. I had been really thorough on collecting, sorting, throwing out, locking up and camoflauging all our food, but our friends next door had the thrill of listening to the bear locate and slurp up their watermelon while literally resting against their tent at 4 am! Mizbear: Congrats on selling!!

Well Saturday was a CSD and Sunday was a NSD which was great, I think staying in really helped. I did get out and go swimming at the gym and had the pool completely to myself at 3pm. I think so much better in the water! Today I've really got to clean up in the kitchen and living room, it got really messy after having company Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I think I'll just continue to work from the kitchen table and do the work in 5 minute bursts p.s. Did we have a volunteer for captain this week? I'll need to check page 1 but if you're willing let me know!

Rocky Mtn Saver: 7 NSD, 7 CSD (<$5). Not much new to report today. I need to be pretty frugal until the end of the month to reach my NSD/CSD goals. I always have trouble keeping up the NSD's in the middle of the month. I guess it's like Tuesdays... no light at the end of the tunnel yet. ;D

Very exciting news today - one of my latest articles was picked up by Forbes! I originally wrote it for the US news but then they changed what they wanted. So exciting!
Other than that not much to report. I need to take Wilson back to the vet since the antibiotic didn't clear up his skin problem. So we're now looking at more trial to find out what the underlying problem may be.
Working on painting tonight so I can get my headboard back into the bedroom by this weekend. I am so so so close to being done!

I think I am supposed to be captain this week. Sorry guys. I was stayed home sick Monday & Tuesday and spent yesterday catching up on work.
I read an article about curbing spending by going through your current belongings and "shopping" from them. So that leads to the QOTW?
QOTW: Do you think that would work for you to curb spending? How often do you purge your belongings?
COTW: Clean out a junk drawer, jewelry box or closet. Let us know if you found something you forgot you had!

Rocky- I apologize for crashing your camping trip- but that watermelon just looked sooooo delicious. QOTW- I try to clean out the closets once every 3 months because I tend to collect clothing. It's worse with mom here- so I may start doing this more often. However I can't say it helps curb my spending because I usually find that half my stuff is in poor repair or doesn't fit properly (I will wear the same couple of outfits for 3 or 6 months unti lthey are in dire need of replacement. COTW- I am in the process of still paring down now. I can't say I am finding things I forgot- but TBear is having a ball raiding my castoffs. And my ex-SIL is taking broken jewelry to make costume jewelry from.

I'm in Heaven! Two days in a row less than 90*. (Both 88* and 89*) Wonderful break from the 100* plus streak we have been having. Of course, I have only spent three days this month. Well, two days I used my allowance to buy an extra bag of ice. I could have avoided Walmart if the cats didn't think they needed to eat. I truly hate going into that store.
Has anyone contemplated stocking up on foods that will have price inflation due to the decimation of the corn and wheat markets? I think we have a few months before it hits and I might think about stashing some lower cost meat in the freezer. Maybe a few pounds of flour. I was commenting to a friend that I was glad seafood wasn't dependent on grain foods, when he said "We live in the middle of the "American Desert." How will all that seafood get here without fuel. Half of the corn crop is used in ethanol production."
Then I realized how stressed the cattle herds are. Many of the ranchers around here are denying the wildfire fighters access to their water ponds to fight the fires. The drought is so severe here they need all the water they have for their cattle. We have had so many small grass fires around here already, I am not looking forward to August and September.

Update: 14 NSD 6 CSD
Just a quick visit before I run some errands. Today will be a spend day since I am meeting a friend for lunch in addition to the errands. Trying to get as many fun things done in my last few free days before school begins for me next week. I finally finished with all the annual medical appointments and tests (both annual and others).
I really have made an effort to get to the gym this summer. I hope that I will be able to maintain that routine once school begins. I will have to switch to going after work which is a bit more difficult for me than going first thing in the morning.
Start -- Great Job!
Mizbear -- Hopefully the developments of the last week will eliminate some of the stress you have been under.
Dakota -- We have several days of teacher meetings plus a few more of orientation for different grade levels. Classes begin in the middle of the month. Lots of little things to do before the students hit us full-force.
Rocky -- You are really getting into the swing of things with all the NSDs you are racking up.
I need to start for the errands soon before the heat gets too bad and before the afternoon rains begin.

Pointy, I wish I could say the same! Rocky Mtn Saver: 8 NSD, 10 CSD (<$5). I don't think I'll have enough NSD's to reach my goal by Tuesday, but I'll come pretty close.

Saturday was a spend day for a haircut, some things at Wal-Mart and lunch. Thankfully I finally have goggles for the gym so I can swim without my eyes getting red. Sunday was a no spend And I probably came out ahead since sbcalimom unloaded a bunch of dry goods and freezer stuff before her move! Still putting it all away but 2 bags of chocolate chips? awesome. Today will be a spend, I have a chiropractic appointment, need to pick up prints at Costco, and need to pick up 3 black picture frames to complete the photo wall. So close to being done!

Friday was a spend and so was Sunday, but I think Saturday was an NS, I can't remember doing shopping. We cleaned up the locker and then I had to go to church (I was recently elected to the pastoral council and we had to go all services this weekend to make sure people knew who we were.) and after that we watched the Olympics.
VENT- DH's car wasn't working this AM and boy was he a grouch when I called home to see how his day is. I hate the beginning and end of the school years, I'm going to send him to the guest room until he gets over the fact he gets 2 months a year off work.
Hope everyone is doing well. We've had 5 showings in just over a week so at least we are getting some traffic.

NSD28/31
I am posting from the public library. My computer us really acting up whenever it gets really hot and I can't access the internet, everything else works fine. Baffles my computer guy. He may have to take it into his shop and I will be computerless for awhile. I didn't realize how addicted I am to my computer.

July Final Update: 17 NSD 6 CSD
Hope all of you are doing well. I had a few very days since I return to work tomorrow. I tried to do all the last items on my list prior to my return to school. Managed to get most of them done and the others will get done as I can.
Ladies -- just a reminder to backup all of your important documents on a flash/ portable hard drive. As I was waiting for my new computer to arrive last week the old one crashed. I am very grateful that I am in the habit of backing up my documents. I have been doing it more frequently since the computer was giving me major problems hence the reason for the new one. BTW, I was able to get the old one started but all of the documents were deleted.
