Well, we had a pretty good closing today.
It was triple witching Friday, so some big name banks had their weighted rankings weakened in the indexes due to large stock repurchases, in the last qtr, while some internet stocks gained weight in the indexes, but we had a good close regardless.

We are well within Dow 25,000 next week.
Depends on whether the Republican Congress has the cahonas to finish the tax bill and pass it.
House is first to vote on it.

Today we bounced above 26,000 again.
Up a whopping 1% on the DOW at 2 pm eastern.
Our three retirement accounts all performed worse than the DOW, S&P 500 and Nasdaq percentage wise yesterday.
Hopefully today they gain it all back and then some.
I am thinking they issued some big redemption numbers yesterday, as some investors pulled some gains off the table after last week.

It has been over six months since I posted here.
It has been a strange year to say the least.
We pulled $25,000 out of our retirement and personal accounts in the first part of January for various things we planned to spend on until September, for things above our actual living costs.
And yet, even though we did not pull at the market top, until yesterday our accounts and stock portfolio was again at a new all time high, without any investment changes on our part. 
I know with all of the things going on with Trump world it sounds like the end of the world, but the monetary bottom line is, life is good. We do reinvest all dividends so that is part of the increase, but the dollar value is still ahead of the high mark earlier this year. 
Unless we see a dramatic market pullback, I think everyone will see huge monetary payouts on your stock funds year end distribution.

I agree the indexes I follow don't appear solid. That could change but trying to guess when is like trying to hit the lottery. One thing I like to do is watch the etfs SPY and IWM. If they start hitting lower lows and lower high or if the 200-day SMA is breached I might get more concerned.

The stock markets seem to be at a crossroads this month.

Market gyrations are high due to many issues.
Is the market getting toppy and needs a rest after such a large surge covering years of growth in the markets?
Are rising interest rates going to slow the economy down, hurting many industries?
Are the democrats going to regain the House and hurt Trump's economic growth plans by controlling the Houseand fight him on all issues?
Are tariffs going to plunge us into a recession?
Today the DOW is up 450 points.
NASDQ 194 points
S&P 500 50 1/2 POINTS
All after a sell off last week.
New reporting period just started this week and so far, reports are good, which leads to speculation that business are still reaping a strong return on a still improving economy.
My personal feeling is, if Democrats fail to gain the majority in the House in the fall elections, everything will still go off as planned and we will finish with a new record high for most averages this December. Right now tariffs and Fed interest rates are kind of like "white noise". They are out there, but will not hurt the stock market, unless the Fed really makes a strong statement on future rate increases in early December. I do not think they will make a strong statement for more than two or three increases in 2019.

Look at it this way. Even if they raise a quarter point three more times, we still will be well off a historical interest rate level.

S&P 500 has to reach 2,686 for a major support area to trigger a positive market move to the upside, but if it holds above 2,600 this week I think we will advance towards that goal.
I thought it was interesting that all three indices closed where they did yesterday.
This is not a dead cat bounce imo.

Up 8.26% in after hours trading.

Based on some stocks now announcing their quarterly results, I am thinking we are going to see a swing in the markets upward.
Earnings this week are good.
Hasbro of all stocks pushing $100 a share up $12.48 a share after reporting this morning.
PG, Kimberly Clark, Coca Cola all saying some positive news.
Pinterest and ZOOM  went public and were a hit, and have even climbed from opening day
Lyft looks like it has found a base and climbing from the lows, setting up Uber when they go public.
Anyone with extra money who are gun shy to specific stocks might want to consider some Index funds right now. I think we will be well rewarded over the next four to six months.

Wow.
Facebook and Microsoft reported good numbers yesterday and are being rewarded.
3M reported bad numbers and getting clobbered.
CMG reported good numbers and down over $40 a share, but stock was at $700 so imo, that is people cashing in on a stock that was up 64% since the first of the year

Yesterday Alphabet reported slowing revenus and is trading down 7%
This morning GE reported better than expected numbers and is up 11% in premarket trading.
Stock markets want to go up, but traders are nervous.
Produce outstanding results or get punished......

Appears like we are in one of those typical late May corrections, and from the looks of the "trade war" news it may continue well into June.  Dow down 286+ at the close, and off over 440 at the worst earlier.
