Hello everyone sorry i havent been back to update you all but here is one. I am feeling good. Tired but still hanging in there, since you all send me good vibes of prayers, well wishes and good thoughts. so here is my update.
I finished chemo on Sept 20. From the scan that was done the doctor said he felt the chemo had done its job in killing the lymph nodes and shrinking the tumor. It was suggested that i do radiation to finish shrinking or killing off the tumor and then letting the body take care of destroying it or eating it. So i started radtiation Oct 17, i have to do 28 of them, i do them daily except weekends. I am so thankful that i went through chemo fine, and it looks like radiation is going fine also, no side effects. I have a pet scan scheduled for dec 6 to see what is up, and a doctor appt for dec 13. But talking to the radiation doctor she said that the radiation will light up the cancer for a month so not so sure they will be able to tell if anything has been done with it or not. But that is my story and i am sticking to it.
We have changed my PET scan to dec 20 and my doctors appt to dec 27.
Again you guys have no idea how much i love coming and reading your postings, you guys rock in case you didnt know it.

So far (knocking on wood while i type this) i have no side effects from radiation, no red skin, no burns, no dry skin. I have not lost my swallowing reflex (good thing for texas that i havent) ok ok i will behave. The drs thought i would be radiation is being done on the throat area. I am eating more through the mouth. the drs are also concerned that i might get scar tissue buildup, but that is somthing we will check later. I must say that i am really feeling good. I hope to feel good for many many many years to come. But remember i am treatable but not cureable, so i guess i will always have cancer but it maynot always be active, so i am hoping it goes dormaint for many many years.

Hello All,
I have an update for all my wonderful friends here. Yesterday was my last day of radiation, i am all done with 28 of them. I go for a Petscan on dec 20th and see the cancer doctor on dec 27th. I am hoping the petscan shows us that the tumor is shrunk so that my body will take care of it.
I am so thankful for all of you guys posting here for me, I was crying when i left radiation because it was the last one and i dont have to be poked, prodded or told to lie still for almost a whole month. I tell you these last 6 months have been a roller coaster and a half. But i am still here and hope to be for many days, months and years to come. Everyone is so great here, if i could hug you all i would.

Patricia, you are a strong and down to earth woman...I known you will beat this and see your beautiful grandson become a mischievous teenager. My mom had breast cancer, then a few years later melanoma (thanks Florida)...she is still here and almost 80, and as feisty, beautiful and full of life as she has ever been. You be strong...this too shall pass. |
