I know my brain is sometimes faulty, but what is the difference between .50/1 and $1/2? Isn't that the same? Or is the .50 q off 2? Then I understand perfectly.

I prefer the 0.50 cents off 1 since my grocery store doubles but I don't think any stores in CA double. My only guess is, it is to use at a store that counts the number of coupons and you can't have more coupons than items. In that case it would leave room for a store coupon to be stacked with the MC. Other than that I got nothing. ;D Dancin if you want them just let me know.

There was a post on AFC (FINALLY) about the rumor that WAG is doing away w/RR and adding a loyalty card. Not a bunch of happy campers. Can someone watch HCW? I am ‘banned for life’ there since I told a former moderator she was an IDIOT if she though all WAG stores operated like hers did, welcomed couponers and had a well trained staff inc managers who knew their ads and what they were doing. marvholly: I'd be glad to check to see if they have any buzz on the HCW WAGs forum and will report back. ;D ETA: So far I don't see any buzz on there about it. If the mod was Irishlass, she stepped down last November.

The Wags card was tried in a few areas (mine being one of them), and I thought it was a bust since they took it away again (YAY!!). I hope it does not come back to stay.

Regarding WAGs: Someone I know who I consider to be a very good source, as they see ads/store mgr order sheets months ahead (due to a friendly manager encouraging special orders) noted that the manager was seeing a stop to RR deals as of September. This 3rd confirmation from a store management/ordering level makes me believe that the rumors are not rumors but an unfortunate fact.

WAGS: I've quit shopping at WAGS since EC aired but yesterday stopped in to see if they had the Ecotrin. I did two deals but my question is this. Can you redeem the RR at any other stores? Will Kroger or Walmart take them? I don't see anything I want at WAGS and I hate having to worry about not using them in time.

Well, that will almost entirely end WAGs shopping for me, but I haven't been shopping there much anyway. I think I've only done RR deals on three items so far this year (NasalEase, Refreshers, and Ecotrin). And how long do you think it will be until RA follows suit by ending their UPs program? I predict that CVS will be the last to drop their rewards program, but if the other two have dropped them, why would they/should they continue? I knew that it wouldn't last forever; this could be the beginning of the end.

My coke rewards is offering a subscription to All You for 333 points. Thought some of you might be interested. I haven't been on there in awhile so not sure if they are offering it regularly or if it's a limited thing. I may do it if it's still there when I have enough points. The coupons are usually pretty good in it and I liked it when I used to subscribe. Thanks for the tip! I might get that. I usually get free coke coupons and whatnot, but I actually like pepsi products better. Hahaha, I remember that. I use HCW, but I mostly limit myself to a couple of grocery store forums, where the mods are pretty great. I can't venture out anywhere else because of how over-moderated it is, and how easy it is to get your wrist slapped over the stupidest things. I think the drug store forums are the worst because of how much traffic they get.

I'm actually watching the first episode of the new season of That Show I didn't get 15 minutes in before I noticed the first questionable purchase. She had some free coupons for vlasic pickles, apparently up to $3.50. You could very clearly read the word FREE on it, so it was not just a coupon for $3.50 off. The two women picked jars that cost $2.99 so that they could get .51 overage on each of 20 jars. I know we've probably all run into an occasion where a cashier might take off more for a freebie coupon than the item costs, but to expect to get overage on each of 20 coupons is crazy. Sigh. The woman was pretty obsessed anyway. She's so insistent on a zero total that she doesn't even take her wallet to the store. She ended up with $1.58 overage on her transaction, so she wandered around the store until she found an item that cost EXACTLY $1.58 so she wouldn't have to pay anything.

I just assumed that the entire board was moderated in the same way.

I see one of these stores disappearing in a merger within the next 3-5 years (probably RA, but WAGs lost express scripts and seems insistent on running off customers, so who knows?). I will also enjoy my rolling while I can. Next week, I will roll the $2 ecotrins into FARR goodies hair thingamabobs that are $2 with $2 RR and I will be buying the Brainstrong at $10-$4 MC in WAGs vitamins "save $100 booklet" and get a $10 RR or use my four $2/1 IPs when I run out of the other for a nice solid MM and roll the other two FARR products from this week into next week. I turned the .99 Refreshers RR into comet cleanser this week, arizona tea, sunflower snack packs, cream cheese, eggs, and some other odds and ends I needed, I plan to do the same with all the others I am holding. My sister gets the military discount, so on Thursday she will take her discount, combined with the BOGO on the Banana boat, use $2/1 MC, and the $2 IVC from the skin care booklet for almost free BB sunscreen, she is also using her discount to get more of the FARRs like youththeory and technu, for a slight profit as well. Might as well enjoy the rolling while we can, it doesn't seem like that stupid show is going to leave until they ruin the couponing for all of us.

I forgot to tell you guys about my great buy yesterday. We went to the Mushroom Festival at one town over and we shut the place down. As we were walking out there was a stand selling 1 lb. containers of strawberries and they asked me if I'd like to buy them for a $1 a container. Heck ya!! I am waiting for my pie crust to cool and am making a fresh strawberry pie for our Memorial Day barbecue. Everything else is cooking right now - beer can chicken is on the grill and homemade beans are in the oven. constanz: You're a lucky dog. Looks like you're the only one who got the $1/2. Oh, how I miss those strawberry stands! And the mushroom festival!

I can't believe they have SunDrop in CA now. It's been bottled in the Carolinas forever, and in the past was pretty much impossible to find outside of the mid-atlantic/midwest. I'm going to tell my mom she can quit packing it in her suitcase when she goes out of town Great job on your yardsale constanz. I sold some stockpile goodies on ebay this week to get ready for my move, and netted almost $40 I know it's probably the wrong time of year to ask, but is anyone collecting box tops for education? I'd love to pass on what I've collected and get rid of them before I have to finish packing. emhalf, I have some. I could probably get them out in the next week if you still want them.

I am hoping that we can make it an annual event. BTW, between DS and his GF, DH and I, the fresh strawberry pie is ALL GONE!!

Hello All! Just checking in. I see that many pages have been written since I was last here but not too much in the last few days. I guess I missed all the deals last week. Work has been tough. The recession has caught up with my company and they've made lots of changes, none of which are profitable for me. Last week we got a memo about Internet usage and how you can be fired if you use it outside of lunch and breaks. So there goes my research and reading time. It used to be that as long as you got your work done, they didn't mind you doing some personal stuff. Honestly, I'm not getting any more work done by not using the Internet. It just stresses me out more because I'm less prepared for shopping and I know I have more work to do when I get home. So I guess I'll be posting less these days. But I'll still be checking in as much as I can. I CAN do it from home but once I get home the last thing I want to do is jump on a computer again. Sprouts deals this week: I joined the mailing list a while ago and this month they sent me a coupon for a free protein bar (I forget which, never heard of it) and $3 off meat! I can't remember the specifics of the coupon but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to use it on the 100% grass fed, organic ground beef I saw last week, as long as it's still on sale. It was $5.99/lb. (regularly $6.99-10.99) but I'm not sure if that was the first or last day of that sale. Or I could just use it on the $2.99/lb. regular meat too. I signed up with two e-mail addresses and I'll have to have DH sign up too. They almost always send a monthly coupon for a free thing or two. Last month it was a free pint of Chiobani yogurt and a free bag of Garden of Eatin chips (reg. $3.99 ea.) and I got two of each free.

I'd roll IF I could break even or make a profit in RRs or I'd find items that we needed that I probably would never be able to stockpile for free otherwise. Since my store restricts RRs to one RR item per person per day, it is a big hassle just to get them, to say nothing about trying to roll them, which is another reason I don't shop that much at WAGs these days. I wouldn't be at all surprised by a merger either. It might just be my RA, but I can't understand how that chain stays in business. Don't you have to stock the shelves if you want to sell stuff?

I'm thinking about trying to grow more food. I can do it year-round, so why not? I saw an article about a guy in London that grows $1,000 in food a year on his 6'x9' balcony. I was inspired. I don't know if I have enough time or enough of a green thumb for that. The plants I have now are barely growing.

RE: the death of the drug store rewards It's sad. Those are some of our best deals. They were just GIVING stuff away years ago, including profits. They still are, it just is not the 6-7 items (or more) each and every week that it used to be and the "for profit deals" are more rare so it just takes a little bit more time and patience than it used to. And as much as I have whined over the lack of being able to stockpile food items at my grocery stores, I have to admit that as far as stockpiling is concerned, it makes a lot more sense and is much more cost effective to be able to get non-perishables for free. The savings from those stockpiles will remain long past any obtained from buying food. I am REALLY disappointed in those couponers who betrayed us all by participating in Extreme Couponing on TLC. What did they think that they were doing? I can't blame people at all for jumping on the couponing bandwagon, but advertising what we do to the entire nation through a medium like TV dumped way too many couponers on the market at the same time. Did they give any forethought as to the consequences of what they were doing or was 15 minutes of fame worth it to them? I knew that the advent of the drug chain rewards was amazing and wondered how long it would last, but there is no doubt in my mind that that show is directly responsible for the pullback that we have seen. I believe that a lot of the participants probably already realize that they have slit their own throats. But trust me, no matter what happens with the drug chains, looking for rock bottom prices and using multiples of the same coupon to stockpile has always been and will always be the most cost effective way to shop, with or without doubled coupons and with or without drug chain rewards. Couponers who have become spoiled in recent years will drop off thinking that the fact that they can't get so many things for free as often will no longer make it worth the effort. Not true. Those who stick it out and work through the changes until we arrive at a "new normal" in couponing, while working to increase their resources for free inserts as others leave them behind, will reap the benefits because they will still have the coupons with a lot less competition to get the deals. Every cloud has a silver lining. ;D Personally, I do not plan to change a single thing that I am doing and have been doing over the last 2-3 decades.

Dancin Moderator was Irishlass and even though she is gone I am still banned. I have bought a few other things (RR & not RR) at WAG this year but I do pass a bunch of WAG stores every week so its real easy for me. Now, I generally skip Target since I only pass 1 regularly and the parking lot there is as bad or worse than Walmart. I don’t have Rite Aid but I am REAL close to 2 CVS mgrs so I would hope to get a heads up IF they change BUT, at least around me, CVS should get a BUNCH more business. Many CVS here are within ½ mi or less of WAG stores.
Note: I have >4 decades of being a coupon shopper. I remember when there were NO bar codes and very few coupons had expire dates.
Sam Rumor is it is coming back for ALL of us and NO more RR in spite of many posters hatred. Has my closest 2 CVS mgrs dancing if true.
Misspt I should give my 40 mi away friend a call. She does most of the ordering for her WAG store. Will try on Thur. Am totally booked up today. CVS is REAL happy about getting ExpresScripts-banners on all the doors.
Ruby I KNOW my Albertson’s (Jewel) takes them (until 7/1) but never tried anywhere else.

My sources in the marketing world don't think that drug stores are losing money from their rewards programs. If anything they chuckle that people use the rewards programs and think they "beat the system". Not to say people here don't manage to get the occasional freebie or even a MM but that is far from the norm. In fact Walgreen's is doing pretty good with it's front end numbers. It still made a decent profit in spite of losing scripts.
Just a thought.

As a matter of fact, I still have several $.40/1 and $.50/1 coupons for various General Mills cereals, that have NO EXPIRATION in big block letters on them. I was getting boatloads of inserts back in those days from a recycling center and no expiration is no expiration, so I clipped and saved every one of them. ;D Cashiers would use the cash register like an accountant uses an adding machine, looking at the price tag on the item and entering it in without looking at the keyboard on the register. The same thing applied when you handed them your coupons. And despite all this new technology, I swear, checking out was faster in those days.

I'm sorry to hear that EC is coming back. However, I think it has already done it's damage. Folks that were going "all out" as a result of that show have learned that it does take some time/effort. I've noticed that even WAGS has stock on the shelves for their RR program. I was actually able to find the Ecotrin 2 days after the promo started. Imagine that! So, I'm hoping that even with their new season, getting the deals will be easier to obtain--especially since the show primarily focuses on the supermarket arena. I've never been able to save more than 70% there using q's but I think that's pretty good since this is a HCOLA and all I have is Raley's and Safeway. Not exactly the bargain markets. My average grocery store savings is between 55-60%. That's the combo of sales prices, reg. coupons, store coupons, and the J4U Safeway program.

Dancinmama: I do have the .50 Coffeemate q's. Do you want them?
If anyone got the Zevia natural soda q's ($3 5/20 SS) and isn't going to use them, I'd love to have them. PM me and I'll send my addy.
Thanks in advance.

I forgot to add that you can save a ton of money even if you don't get a lot of inserts. My source dried up a long time ago so I only get two or three. They're usually from the local paper and they don't always match the ones in the San Fran Chronicle. But I refuse to pay $3 for that paper. I've found that I can get a lot of IPs that are high value by following myfrugaladventures; and, of course, you guys are super generous. So, although, I could only do the Ecotrin deal once, I still made a $2 profit. It all helps.
