HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE GROCERY CHALLENGE GALS!! On behalf of suzi and all of the gals here, WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! If you have never clipped a coupon, or even if you have been using coupons for years, we'd love to have you join us. We are a crazy, fun-loving, and very friendly group of gals just chatting with one another about how to save big money using coupons. We are willing to help anyone, at any level, in any way that we can. Don't think that you have to read through the pages and pages of posts to join in - most of it will be old, out-of-date information anyway. Just go to the last page of the thread and introduce yourself. Tell us what area of the country you're from and where you shop (grocery stores, national chain stores, Target, WalMart, etc.). We'd love to have you join us on a regular basis, so don't be shy - just jump right in, have some fun, and save a ton of money in the process!! NEWBIES/OLDIES: If you post a HOUND ALERT requesting coupons from others, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE also post which insert/where the coupon can be found (Example: 1/2 SS) so that we can find it easily without having to research it ourselves. ALSO, if you need the coupon for a specific deal, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE try to remember to post the deal with your HOUND ALERT so that someone who may have the coupon(s) can decide whether they want/need to do the deal before sending out any of their coupons. THANKS!! POSTING ABOUT A DEAL / HOT COUPON: Some people get overwhelmed by the number of posts and only have time to skim the posts for the information that they need the most. If you are posting a deal, please post something that makes it stand out like "CVS DEAL ALERT" or if you are posting to tell us that there is a new, hot coupon available, please post something like "$3/1 WHOLLY GUACAMOLE IP ALERT". We want to make this thread as fun, friendly, and helpful as possible. These suggestions will save EVERYONE a lot of time when they are trying to "catch up" and read through past posts. Now let's have some fun!!

SaveinLa mentioned the J4U produce price. I got that one a week or two ago. Love those produce J4U prices. They gave me a $2.99 price for a 3lb. bag of organic granny smith apples so I will buy those this week. Dancinmama: I'll have to read the thread on the couponing. The article you shared is typical, I think, of a lot of guys attitudes. At least in the past, I know they were embarrassed to use q's. My DH no longer is as he is well trained. I've been the coupon fairy to many men standing in line at the grocery store. I'll see their carts in front or behind me and start pulling q's for them to use. They always say, "thanks, I should do this". Many are surprised at how much they save. I tell them to sign up for the store's rewards card, and if they have an email account, the J4U program. Those two things combined with q's can save anywhere from 50% on up. Strategic shopping! I leave them with: "If you saw 50 cents on the ground, would you pick it up?" Most say, yes. I then say, "that's exactly what this piece of paper is: money!"

Dancin posted this article in the April thread from a non-couponer. I liked your points in YM, dancin but I think most of this dude's arguments are kind of dumb and whiny. 1. Buying the newspaper and clipping coupons is too complicated, wahhhh... 2. Companies only put out coupons to get you addicted to their products, and I have no self-control. 3. Even though the companies are trying to get you addicted, they'll make you buy more than one of their products, and the products might suck. Then what will I do with all the stuff I don't want? Guess the guy doesn't have any friends/family/neighbors/co-workers/food banks who might not have the luxury of worrying about a weird aftertaste. 4. Generic will often save you money so it's important to comparison shop, but overall, no, you will not save just as much. Why spend $1.50 for that generic brand toothpaste when you can get a name brand for free (which I did this AM)? And how on earth does anyone shop at any chain store without having one of their loyalty cards? Most grocery stores require them to get a sale price (even on generic brands), and you don't even have to give them your real information if you're concerned about identity security. 5. A lot of coupons are for junk food, so there are some families out there who will never get good use of them. But most families will buy treats occasionally, or at least use normal brand toiletries or cleaning supplies.

We would get the Sunday newspaper no matter what, coupons or no coupons. The inserts are a bonus. If people don't want to eat junk food, then don't buy junk food. Last week at Meijers, I bought 8 bottles of Kraft dressings which should last us through most of the year. I had 4-$1.00 off produce when you buy 2 dressings. I got a bag of potatoes and some Vidalia onions for free, so coupons aren't only for junk food. I haven't noticed groceries going down in price, so if there's a good sale, coupon, etc..., then I'll buy more than one item. Has anyone seen a bottle of ketchup for $.25? Last year I hit a sale and had coupons to buy 10 bottles of Hunts ketchup for $.25 each and now I am down to one bottle. I wish I would've bought more. The writer's reasoning is flawed.

I was able to stock up last week on quite a few grocery items. I got store brand ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce for free (actually, .22 overage each). I got store brand mayo for .50. I combined a deal, .88 per item WYB 8 items. Coke 2 ltrs were included. I found hangtags on the Coke for $1 off WYB 2 Coke and $4 of meat, produce, frozen, bakery and deli. I got some really CHEAP food, including bacon, bagged salads, frozen veggies and bone-in seasoned chicken breasts.

To me, let people believe it, then there will be more for the rest of us who know those "editors & writers" are full of BTW, I just score 6 free sticks of deodorant because of coupons and loyalty cards Not to mention 3 free bottles of diet coke, 3 cans of starbucks refreshers, 2 bottles of salad dressing and 3 diabetes testers that I plan on donating...that guy can shove it hehe

After what has happened in the past, I was reluctant to post the link to the article and start the thread on YM; but as it turns out it seems to have been a better way to start a discussion on the topic. Even if the thread is short lived, I am hoping that it may encourage some YMers to give it consideration and perhaps even join us here on the GC. Not having to deal with all the drama that has been created by the same YM coupon naysayers in the past has been extremely refreshing.

REFRESHERS at WAGS: I noticed several of you guys were going after the refreshers that are free after coupon this week at WAGs. HOWEVER, I wanted to let you guys know that the week of 5/13 they are supposed to be .99 giving a .99 RR!!!! That coupon expires on the 19th, so I am going to try to get my store to order me some of those for that week. HTH

twinmama, Glad that you can use the info. If anyone has the Qs from the machine for the POM wonderful juice, the smaller sizes are 1.50 this week and will be 50c with the Q (Q has no size restriction). My Safeway never had the blinkies, but I do have a rain check. If you happen to have any to spare, I could certainly use them; if not, no worries. dancinmama, I don't drink juice, so I mailed them all to my DH since he loves the POM wonderful and he has a SW store. Sorry. I will keep looking and if I find more Qs will send them to you.

Unfortunately, my WAGs no longer allows multiple transactions due to a couponing group that was coming in every Sunday morning from out of town and wiping them out.

I can't find many deals I want to do this week. I was a coupon fairy in Target today, but that was about as much exercise as my coupon holder got. I have a CVS next to my work, so I will go and get the free Colgate tomorrow. There is a deal at Meijer where if you buy 2 boxes of Always or Tampax you get a $5 gift card, and they have a MIR for a $10 gift card wyb $40 worth of PG products. So, with $1 off 2 coupons, you could spend ~$44 and get $30 in gift cards if you buy 8 boxes. It isn't the lowest price for them, though, so I don't think I will end up doing it.

For those of you AZ, IL, CA, KY, NV, & NM....CVS has Jose Tequila 750ML on sale for $10.99 plus an instant $2 rebate (page 2 in my ad) making it just $8.99...That is about 50% off our Base Exchange price!! So I will be buying 2 bottles of my friend Jose, just so we can enjoy some margaritas this summer (maybe sooner )

Speaking of the free colgate at CVS...I got a $1 off any toothpaste from the red scanner this AM. I wasn't going to do the deal, but that changed my mind. I also got $1 off any deodorant, so I was able to use a tube of Ban as a filler too.

There should be a $.50/1 Colgate TP coupon in the inserts from today. There is also a BOGO speedstick coupon in today's inserts that auto deducts 3.99 at CVS. The deo is 2/$5, use a $3.99 BOGO coupon and $1/1 CRT for .01 OOP for two deos. The refreshers you asked about are the starbucks refreshers that have a "free" coupon in today's pepsico insert.

If you shop at Costco, I think it is a little better deal there; but not for you unless you're going over to SM anyway. The last time I was in Costco, the price was $19.99 for 1.75L. Not too long ago, I was able to get 1.75L handles of Stoli's vodka at Costco for $17.49 ea. This is DH's drink of choice (on the rocks with an olive, skip the vermouth). Can you say stockpile?

Has anyone actually tried the Starbucks Refreshers? I was able to pick up (6) tonight at Safeway. I didn't realize that they are energy drinks. When I got home, I popped one open. I think they are kind of gross, but I know that DS and his very sweet and beautiful DGF will love them.

I think you can do better at some point in the future. Stayfree and Carefree have been free after coupon a couple of times a year. I got free ones last week at CVS, and I have what feels like a lifetime supply after only 4 weeks of couponing, so I this is an easy pass. What I do need are razors, and I think I can do something at CVS with the $5 EB deal on Gilette and the $3 MQ. Will check when I grab the colgate tomorrow!

Just remember that they are non-perishable, so don't pass up a chance to get them for free. If you find that you are getting low on storage space, you can always donate them to a woman's shelter or a food pantry. Razors are a tough one these days. Back in the day, they used to be huge MMs quite regularly.

The cheapest Venus in the blue package is 7.79 for some and 8.29 for others and is giving the $5 EB. Use the $3 MC, and you have a free or nearly free razor. Limit one, though.

I am so jealous of that deal, I am speechless........and a lot green with envy............ That is one of the things that I love about California...the alcohol deals in this state are AMAZING lol...I am thinking about doing this wine deal at Von's too...buy 6 bottles @ $4.50 plus 10% as $10/6 bottles electronic coupon from Just4U...it would come out to around $15 for 6 bottles... about $2.50/ea...sound good to anyone??? I am sooo jealous of these deals! I was thinking of doing the CVS TP deal for a second but I really don't want to jump back in at the moment and I realized it isn't actually DH's fav like I thoght. He really like the colgate luminous tp and it regularly goes on sale at shoprite for 0.77-1.00 so I will wait and get it there for free. If I am passing a cvs and have the b1g1f coupon on the deod I may still do that but I am still not sure. I will have to think about it. I had fun this weekend at JCpenny's. I haven't been in there in a while. I got a bunch of Liz Clairborne for him pants for DH. They were really nice cotton flat front Khaki's. (I think the west coast call them Chino's) I also got a few Docker's brand in a simaliar style. They were all priced $13. That was the best price on them I had seen in more than a year and DH needed some new ones pretty bad. It was a nice experience too. the place was quiet and low key which was nice for me.
