Hey all believe it or not but my baby girl turned 4 today! She is so cute, smart and head strong. I didn't do too bad since we came in under $50 for the going to McDonalds for ice cream sundays and playing, then McDonald's again for dinner for 5, then we went to Chuck E Cheese (only to play games NOT to eat.) We all had a blast.
FP: I am bummed about having to pay $410 for my shoulder. It is crazy how much things can cost, 45 minutes of PT, a cortizone shot and the doctor visit. And that is WITH insurance, although it is a solo plan so not the best coverage....
red: I always say make plans for your life and God laughs at your while throwing you a curve ball.....

It seems like God's Plan and my plan never coincide. He always has something better for me.

Update: 11 NSDs 2 CSDMK -- Four already! I remember when you were posting on your way to have her. Hope your shoulder feels better. Spent most of yesterday at the French Quarter Festival. Free music and yummy food. Definitely a great day -- good weather, music playing for blocks at several stages, street performers and the usual group of unusual characters. Only spent on food and public transportation -- good old streetcar! I have been spending most of my time correcting papers as several major projects were due recently. The majority of the most detailed one are done. Most of the others are not as complicated to correct. Only a little more than a month left of the school year.

Rocky Mtn Saver: 7/30 NSD, 5/30 CSD (<$5). Had a CSD yesterday, probably will again today. I'm still working on Accounting homework, so that has to remain my focus until the final project is turned in next week. The journalizing is all done, I just need to analyze the financial statements. Good times!

Mitten - can't believe she's four already! She was our first thread baby lol.
Had a pretty unspendy weekend, considering. Cheapest bachelorette party ever! Go me for good planning!
And I got a freelance project, which is happy news. Now I just need to stay awake at night long enough to do it! Luckily it's quite short so it shouldn't be a problem as long as I do an hour or so a night before crashing into bed.

Rocky Mtn Saver: 8/30 NSD, 6/30 CSD (<$5). Free lunch, baby! LOL, I'm eating lunch at a campus event today, so I'm calling it on spending any money for the rest of the day. I have a meeting directly after work today, so I have no time to buy anything else anyway. I'm putting off one purchase I need to make until tomorrow, because, darnit, I want my NSD! ;D ETA: By the way, I got rewards of 50c per gallon off my fill-up this morning by using my Safeway card when I've been picking up prescriptions for myself and my mother!! Woo-hoo! I drove on fumes until every drop was gone in my tank before I filled 'er up. ;D

MK- omg I cant' believe she's that big! For the newbies, MK was our fearless leader even 4 years ago who posted before going to the hospital to deliver lol - such dedication! today will be a NSD, I'm in the middle of a ton of client work which just got derailed when I got the opportunity to contribute to the Washington Post!!! y'all have no idea how excited I am, just sent off my piece and I'm giddy over here. Now if I can just get the New York Times.... edit: omg, I am so glad that I submitted before I looked at the numbers for this publication. Not only is WP #6 in circulation in the US (half a million) but it's #3 in online readers (8 million people!!). Just dang.

update; 15/30 NSD, 15/30 NEO, $350 in savings. I got another $100 in savings for the month so far. I'm doing good on that count. It seems that the only time I can't get a NSD is when I don't eat out. So far I have spent $26 for the eating out spends. I guess that is better than the $90 I would have spent if I didn't count the < or = to $5 a day eating out. So I guess I have saved $64 so far this month but that is in with the monies that I have put in savings.

Update: 12 NSDs 2 CSD
Picked up another NSD yesterday but not today. Today I got a haircut and filled up the gas tank. The gas was definitely needed as was the haircut.
3cats -- you are definitely making progress. I remember those first few weeks you were with us. Now you are rocking it and have your savings in the growing stage. Great job.
Start -- congrats. You seem to be getting the kudos in your professional field.
Rocky Mtn Saver -- I see it didn't take you long to get into the habit of NSD and doing everything to avoid spending. I remember the great story of SES coasting down the hills to avoid the gas stop in order to get a NSD in my early days on the old board.

Late night ahead. One of my leads is ready to work with the larger team and I'm stuck putting together the proposal alone. It'll probably be a very big engagement which is lovely because I get the referral commission plus my fee on top! I am dying to get this closed asap because now I want to spend some extra time in NYC!

I had almost forgotten my "driving on fumes" story, the things we will do. I'll repost the story if I can find it.
Found it!
PT Cruiser 2/2007 You all are CORRUPTING me. I have 24/29 $0 spend days and I only have one day to make it 25. Coming home from work the low fuel light started blinking. I told my car "you are a PT Cruiser-so cruise!" then I kept coaching it every block. Then the emergency bell started to ding (less than one gallon, I think) I wanted those 25 days sooooo bad. I made it home without any gasping noises. But I still had to get to work tomorrow. I cleaned out my purse of loose change, I even emptied the gunk from the vacuum, raided the junk bowl in the kitchen, raided my quarter stash-still not enough. Then I remembered the parking change stashed in the car! I only need one gallon to get to and from work for one day. I "cruised" the four blocks to the service station ( 4 blocks all downhill), then pumped one gallon into the car went inside and counted out $3.19 in change. a NO SPEND day was achieved!!! I still have 17c . All that grief and drama for a smiley. I haven't pulled a stunt like that since prehistory when I was in high school. I'm just glad no one I knew was around. I know where I will be first thing Saturday morning. As I said you all are corrupting me, getting in my head and not letting me spend. So I guess if I do get my 25/29 days the cake (or is it the present?) I'll share it with all of you.

Why so Quiet?
It's the 20th and we have 4 pages? That's really slow!
Informal questions of the week:
1. Favorite drink (does not have to be alcoholic) of all time: 2. Place you want to visit anywhere in the world. 3. Coke or Pepsi? 4. What career you wanted as a kid. 5. Top splurge if you had no debt, bills were paid, savings in the bank and $1000 tax free

I've been quiet because I've been going to bed at 9:30pm lately lol. And fairly busy at work.
Answers:
1. Diet coke. I cannot live without it. Caffeine-free is a poor substitute. Looking forward to a real one in November.
2. I really want to see the Pyramids at Giza. A little rough over there still though. Gonna be a while.
3. Coke. Diet. Duh. lol.
4. I wanted to be an editor and work in publishing. Here I am!
5. What to do with $1000... hmmm... Not enough for the camera I want. Get an Alaskan Malamute, perhaps. Or travel somewhere. I do love my travel. Speaking of which, Blue and I need to plan our vacation this summer, now that we cancelled Alaska. Still bummed about that but looking on the bright side - babies!

My favorite drink: Iced Red Rose Tea, what else except hot Red Rose Tea. Place to visit: I have always wanted to visit Ireland and kiss the Blarney Stone. coke or Pepsi: I am a Coke person when I don't have Red Rose tea. Career: In high school I wanted to be a Navy Nurse. Then I wanted to be my own boss. I still have not found the "place in the world" for me. Top splurge: The only thing I want is to get my place done and it will cost more than $1000. If I could get the kitchen done, that would be a plus but I would have to insulate the other room first and then my kitchen.

running all over the place today to get ready for the next trip. Here are my answers : 1. Favorite drink (does not have to be alcoholic) of all time: pomegranate frozen margarita 2. Place you want to visit anywhere in the world. Fiji 3. Coke or Pepsi? Water 4. What career you wanted as a kid. My mom tells a convincing story that I wanted to decorate cakes at the grocery store but from a young age I was going to be a doctor. That lasted from about 7 yo to 20 yo. 5. Top splurge if you had no debt, bills were paid, savings in the bank and $1000 tax free I would take the Cadillac on a roadtrip to San Diego with the top down and stay in hotels on the coast

Hey All, I have been super busy lately but had a sobering must get back to menu planning moment this week when we tallied up our grocery cost. Back to budgeting but will need to increase our budget to eat healthier. DH is starting to tackle on health problems that loosing weight would benefit him. Today we were supposed to go to DH's young cousins Grand Opening for her Vegan Bakery. I try to support her and her sister as much as I can because they are so super sweet and awesome and plus their mom died 2 years ago BUT DS has come down with a trip to the urgent care case of viral hives!!! He is miserable and I feel horrible for him so we are staying put. Because I am home I will play along and answer the questions. 1.) Favorite All Time Drink....I don't know_I drink a ton of water and I love it. It's my go to drink so I'll be boring and say water. 2.)Place You Want To Visit: Europe 3.) PEPSI!!!!!!! 4.)I wanted to be a Prosecuting Attorney for the State and moonlight as a writer. 5.)$1,000 Splurge? Not enough for a Romantic trip to New York so I a weekend road trip to San Diego and a splurge on a fancy hotel, food and baseball game! If the babysitter is free that is MK: I too remember you on the way to the hospital to have your baby! That is too crazy. My baby was 6 months old when I started and she is a couple months away from being 5!!! CRAZY!! That says a whole lot about the friendships on this board.

So much goodness to share! I am totally excited to be heading back to New York for a few days to network and grow my business. I get to speak on a panel in front of 350 people! Plus some new clients have signed on in the past few weeks which helps. Blue Eyes is great, I can't wait until we can get him moved out to California! Tomorrow I still need to finish mowing the lawn (it's taking me forever!), clean up around the house and finish packing. Much to do

update; 17/30 NSD, 17/30 NEO, $350.00 in savings. I got my hair cut today but that is in budget. What wasn't in budget was a stop at the McD's on my way home. But that is okay because 17 out of 21 days of not eating out or spending +-$5 is doing great for me. Next month I am not going to count the $5 and if I spend it, I spend it. Knowing that I don't have to will probably help me not spend it. I do like the extra $85 that will be in my savings for not eating out so far this month. I hope I can make it to the end of the month. The $130 will help build my deck so I can sit out there and sip my morning tea while watching the sun come up because I get up about that time.

1. Hmmmm- depends - I would have to say V-8, canned coke and sprite or Sierra Mist are tops- there is also Jack, Green Apple Pucker, jose cuervo, and scotch..... 2. Scotland, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Canada (and probably some other places) 3. Coke (as long as it's in a can) 4. A firefighter, a state trooper, a nurse and a Marine (yes all at once) 5. A date with a certain tall dark haired handsome construction super from Canada
I go to see my BFF J and her Mom for the first time in 20 years. We had a ball. I am one of the 3 "adopted" daughters in the family.

update; 18/30 NSD, 18/30 NEO, $350 in savings. We had our get-together today and I didn't spend anything. My DCUZ paid the bill and DSIL left the tip. Next month it is DSIL's turn to pay and my turn to leave the tip. We had a good time. We are trying to talk DSIL to come to the family reunion with BRO's kids because they are still very friendly with her. We will see what happens in June.

Way to get a NSD, 3catslady! I finally got another NSD today. I'm up to 9/30 NSD and 6/30 CSD (<$5). Friday's spending was just some plants for the garden and Saturday was dinner and a movie with friends. No major spending all around, and I have a week left to reach my NSD/CSD goals for the month. Tomorrow won't be NSD but maybe a CSD. I need to buy some party supplies for Saturday's superhero movie marathon day. That's much more fun than finishing my accounting class homework.

azmom - we're trying to plan out meals a bit more, and I'm trying to make myself eat sandwiches I bring from home for lunch. The nausea is a bit better this week so hopefully it works. Buying lunch daily really adds up. So I meal planned this week and had a doozy of a shopping trip yesterday, but we should be good for a while except for milk and eggs and juice. It's crazy how easy it is to lose track when you're just winging it every day!!
Had a great weekend at my cousin's wedding, but exhausted today. Not much spending other than gas to get up there and back. And the groceries yesterday. all budgeted. Another wedding this weekend but it's 20 minutes from our house, thank goodness. And I think blue can wear his suit again without dry cleaning it. That gets expensive on a weekly basis lol.
Need to finish editing a chapter on my freelance project before I crash into bed. Thankfully this book is fairly well-written so it's going well. An interesting look at hip hop and urban youth. It always helps when the topic is interesting!!

I'm not tracking this month, but really need to start again. It just seems like our spending is out of control, it doesn't help that mint.com is messed up and telling me I'm $3000 over budget for groceries this year. I've gone through and manually added it all up and we haven't even spent that much this year.
Anyway tonight is a leftover night for dinner and then I'm making homemade cleansers and giving my bathroom a good once over to see how they work. DH would have a fit if he knew how much I spent on the borax, castille soap and essential oils (The majority of the cost was the essential oils and you use a few drops per batch, so they will last a long time.) But this means no more dangerous cleaners in our house.

Today is payday and I am going to get a NSD- I should get like double brownie points or something! We are going to try and start eating more healthy. The only problem is I really don't know what that means yet except for more fish and chicken and less red meat. Plus we will add more veggies and salads as sides. I'm having a hard time finding recipes and meal planning. I mean I have enough recipes in my back pocket for a week or so but after that it will feel like we are eating the same thing over and over...HELP?
Red: It's crazy how fast our budget spiraled from just winging it. I will be the first to admit that I kind of loved just going to the grocery store and buying what ever I felt like for that day. DH has had a few pretty good checks but Summer is coming and he will be making half of what he has been (hopefully). I got carried away but we have a couple more good checks to regain our self control and start being wiser.
Dakota: Oh- let me know how the homemade cleaners work out. Come August I will have so much time on my hand (all of my kiddos will be in school) and that is one thing on my list of things to do.
Injury Update: I have been doing a walk run/program up to 2 miles and then take two days off and then walk/run...It's so boring and slow but I am committed to the very slow program to avoid injury. My calf muscle is still tight and I'm thinking of having a deep tissue massage. Any thoughts on that?

Sorry I've been MIA lately. After my boss said my hours were going to go down at work, things got really busy, and I've been working full hours. I also got info that they're trying to approve a permanent position for me ;D. I'm not sure when I'll find out for sure if that's happening. My DH and my puppies have been keeping me busy after work. The weather has been amazing, so we've spent most of our free time outside.
Honey- I was thinking about you today. How is the job search coming?
Start- You never cease to amaze me!
1. Favorite drink (does not have to be alcoholic) of all time: Good strawberry lemonade 2. Place you want to visit anywhere in the world. Australia 3. Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi, but I prefer water to pop 4. What career you wanted as a kid. Writer 5. Top splurge if you had no debt, bills were paid, savings in the bank and $1000 tax free I honestly can't think of anything. I would probably put in my baby savings account.
