'When you think nag & moan, we think, inform to reform.'. Hmmm................after indulging in serial monogamy for about 40 years,I find that,at last, Ive learnt to admire you girls from a safe distaance(for the most part! ),so althougb I was taught about the reformation at school,Ive managed to avoid such an indignity, and if I want to leave my beer cans under the sofa, then thats where they'll be........................................ PS my computers playing up a bit, so if im not always about being my usual probing self, youll understand..........(God wouold! ) anyway, love to all, as usual..............eggy

If this be true for the most part, Egg , we women have done our job well! About those beer cans? How would you like living in the wild with the giraffe? They don't mind where you store your empty beer cans..

opposinguthor=egginbonce board=religion thread=21140 post=1069658 time=1338663644]Exactly, he knew it would work because he knew God(read the Gospel of Thomas thread on here please) was working through him. Since there really are only two books that reference JC historically, and they both say he was of divine birth, and they are of “opposing” religions.. It’s safe to say there is a reason that he knew why god was working through him…
I think Islam mentions JC, but JC hadnt read the Koran or the NT, so that cant be the reason..............would it be safe to say that God is working thorough all of us,even you an me, not to mention myra hindley and peter sutcliffe?...............what do you think? [/quote]
I think God works in all our lives, yes Eggy, however, the Messiaha was just a bit different... As per the rest of the post...

Hi Ham.................now we get to the nub of thematter...is god present all of the time? The Muslims often say in their threatening way, that Allah is always everywhere, and there no escaping his 'justice'.they use the word justice, so they can then go on about the bonfire which awaits the unfaithful. similarly, the christian god is also said(by christians, at least, to be everywhere, also,so tho u ffelt that the 'rest of the post's stupidity spoke for itself, the question of 'where was God when Mr Sutcliff went a wandering with his silver hammer?',is particularly relevant to the matter on hand................(I did use that example to brightly highlight the thing,I must admit;also to illustrate that all isnt 'guiness and oysters' in Gods world, tho if it was preented to the unfaithful and yet to be converted i such a way, the takeup rate wud drop a bit....) REgards to you,Ham ,on this (too early) morning, and hoping that all your hopes and wants materialise(I find, that as a cynic, that the less I hope for, the more my hopes materialise)'blessed are those who want nothing, for they shall not be disappointed' PS...........if you could have ONE wish granted, what wud it be? eggy

Your philosophy on hope would give me a sad.. I like what my written word says.. Blessed are those who hope is in the Lord. Why is that, Egg you may wonder? Because we believe God will supply us with our every need when we do so. We learn to be content in every situation in life and trust God to give increase as He sees fit for the plans He has for us. We know God will never forsake us, even when the world around us appears to be crumbling from within.. Sometimes a believer goes prodigal and create their own hell on earth, and goes sleeping with the pigs.. But we eventually experience our V8 moment and come to our spiritual senses and remember.. That -->'In our Father's house is everything we need that pertains to life and godliness'. God always knows where we are anyhow and remains on the lookout, because He's all over the place at the same time, knowing all things concerning his own and every other matter in the earth.. He is amazed at the plot of man against the other and allows derision to set in. God knows any man who tries to figure out the game of life, without him, will continue to circle the same mountains in life, over and over again.. The chaos we see and read about in our world? It is man doing what he feels is right in his own sight. Derision has set in folks. Everybody's right and nobody's wrong. If I could have one wish granted, Egg (I know your question was aimed for Ham, but I'm buttin' in with my own answer.) My one hope: That every man would be made well by the power of God in every area in life. Spirit soul & body. Egg. I will pretend I did not see your last remark for fear of leaving visible and painful bite marks!!

'like what my written word says.. Blessed are those who hope is in the Lord. Why is that, Egg you may wonder? Because we believe God will supply us with our every need ' I likie the sound of it;I really do, and there are lots of things that (to me, ),make that seem a bit hollow;the one that comes immediately to mind, is my friend Paul, who spent most of last year painfully dying from bone cancer(secondary to prostate);he was devoutly religious, owned nearly nothing, and regularly said that all he wanted was not to be dying at 64. At his funeral, there were all thse hymns that he would have liked ,all 'praising the Lord' for his goodness and mercy(luckily no trite remarks about Him moving in mysterious ways!!!),etc etc, and I felt that poor Paul had been hoodwinked right up to his death, and that his god showed him no compassion and no mercy................. For myself, as I said, I'd have been unhappy at my predicament, but I'd not have been expecting help from god,as said help clearly isnt forthcoming.................if it had happened to me, at least I could say that I deserved it for a life of self-indulgence and hedonism, butit happend to the guy next to me who spent his life 'praising the Lord'........................tis confusing for this poor soul................so much so that Im off to the fridge to open a beer! (gosh.a heartfelt post from eggy...............now theres a thing.........................normal service will be resumed as soon as possible! ;D) love to all.back lata.............eggy (all there is is inebriation...)

My brother-in-law's funeral was today, a true christian and believer, the church was packed out, that funny little man dressed in funny clothes was in the pulpit telling us about God and Jesus. He said that God was slow to anger, well i was sitting thinking (i do think occasionaly) if he lost his temper more easier then we would not have had people like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot doing what they did, and all the other bad people in the world. My mother was god in our house, fast to anger and not very tolerant, we would not dare do anything bad or sinfull, what we had was a good and serene household. God could have taken lessons from my mother, he would have learned a thing or two. He never did, so we end up with a bad and sinfull world, that is what you get when you have a weak god. What is he doing with all his time, playing cards with the angels and St Peter.

I suppose, Jack, that many of us have tales like yours and mine, and draw the same conclusions from them(as have you and I), but there must be some way in which the faithful are able to incorporate that sort of thing into their belief structure,as its all too common an occurrence.....................I cant see how, myself, and Im not (I hope), being too confronting in asking how....................having said that, it doesnt fit into MY view of things either, or it wouldnt be so bothersome, so ,as they say, Ive come out the same door as in I went......................

I will get a bit more into this later i'm going to be moving some posts around the site that have more historical facts in them.. Thanks for your word Eggy.. My wants are fulfilled because they are simple.. God, Family, friends and the right to fight for freedom.. ;D Hope you are well too my friend.

Hi Ham............youre gonna have to elaborate on 'fight for freedom',I think...............what enslaves you, that you ,must fight to be free of it? For most(all?) of us, we are only enslaved by our ignorance(tho it sounds trite),and the fight (such as it is), is not a worldly fight....all worldly fights could be just expressions of our desire for knowledge(of self), tho we usuallly dont see it that way................. I have always liked the idea of a 'simple' life;but it has been outweighed by hedonism and self-indulgence,which has its attractions, but carries with it some blindness to reality, and sometimes I feel thatblindness is too high a price to pay for a ticket to materialism.....................ho hum.time for bed.wishin yer well, as usual...............spk sn...........eggy

Eggy says. For most(all?) of us, we are only enslaved by our ignorance(tho it sounds trite),and the fight (such as it is), is not a worldly fight....all worldly fights could be just expressions of our desire for knowledge(of self), tho we usuallly dont see it that way................. Ha but Eggy, don't they say that ignorance is bliss, i married in ignorance neigh on sixty years ago, and with all honesty it has been bliss. We have fought occasionally, and as you say, not worldly fights, just the occasionally little skirmish, and in our blissful ignorance we have learned a lot. We have learned that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, but then we knew that before we got married, so it could appear that in all that time we never learned much. Just lived in blissful ignorance, they also say what you don't know can't hurt you, so i suppose that is what they mean living in blissful ignorance. Does that make sense to anyone, it doesn't to me.

sorry to hear of your loss...
the question of where is God with all this evil in the world is a valid one...i would answer with the question, is this God's world?...i believe in creation, so i believe He made it...but is He presently ruling over it, my answer would be no...
humanity rejected God and His involvement long ago...He is allowing what humans asked for...

thats rather trite, ktunes, and how does one 'reject god'.............how does 'god' allow such rejection in his all encompassing creation? How can you just make up the answers yourself, and find that enough? how long ago is 'long ago'? how can you be so self-satisfied and moralising at your 'answer', even if it were so? Even if there were no other reason, someone with such a v iewpoint would be a good reason to avoid religion.......read some of the remarks by H2H, and Ham, who are(Ithink) both christian, and perfectly reasonable with it,and learn more about your chosen religion from them. wishing you a wealth of enlightening thoughts.............eggy

Hi Eggy, a few years ago you could have been right, but the amount of medication i am taking rules out beer or any type of alcohol. Mrs Jack does try and encourage me to have a tot of whiskey, brandy, or Jack Daniels now and again, she says just a tot now and then won't do me any harm. Now Mrs Jack is not very well know for getting things right, so i miss it out. Now has far has women are concerned, at my age, i find that women are only useful for doing the cooking, cleaning and laundry, Mrs Jack fills that bill perfectly, plus a few other use full little jobs. I was filling up with petrol this morning (gas to the Americans) Mrs Jack was sat in the car while i went into pay for the petrol. One of the customers, tapped on our car window and gave Mrs Jack a tiny booklet, 25p it said on the top right hand corner. Mrs Jack said if he thought he was going to get 25p from me, then he had another thing coming. Anyway the booklet was a religious one, entitled, Knowing God Personally. To cut along story short, it implies that we are all sinners, and the likes of you and i Eggy are destined for hell if we don't turn to god completely, and know half measures. So i will see you in hell Eggy, hopefully not too soon.

Thts not really much of an answer,kt............its nothing to do with being a believer,or not believing;its to do with formulating your thoughts;h2h and ham are believers(I believe!!), and ive had a perfecly OK dialogue with them for ages, without either of them resorting to 'if you dont believe, then theres no point talking about it.......' Theres no point in my rejecting the bible(or anything else), but a little objectivity wont hurt,Im sure............it doeesnt do such an interesting tome justice to dismiss it by saying 'its the word of god and thats that'...........Im sure god would feel the same if asked..... Christianity in its original intent/inspiration was probably 'the business', but it has spent 2000 years being adulterated by the faithful, and now, harbours as much nonsense as enlightenment;I'll bet JC would have a belly laugh, were he to see whats been done with it since his time..............and as for Father Jack......................'feck!!!!!! anyway................cheers,and may all your troubles drown in your beer! ...............eggy

The booklet the god botherer gave Mrs Jack this morning, quotes we are separated from god by our sin, so we cannot know him or experience is love. It also says, no sinner will go to heaven, they will be despatched straight to hell. It also says, everyone is sinful and that sin has it's consequences, it goes on to say that we may try and bridge the gap by doing good things, like helping others, and following the religion. It goes on to say our efforts will fail because we can't deal with the problem of sin. So what is the point of going to church, doing good deeds, if the end results is you will still go straight to hell. Eggy, i think we are travelling the right path without any deviations. ;D

I might be wrong, Jack but doesnt the story go.....'.He died for our sins';the idea being that we are free from sin because of what happened to poor JC?.............but also......'the sins of the fathers shall be visited upon thier sons'................dunno which to believe, but your particular god botherers seemed to subscribe to the latter.....John Cleese remarked that families are all about guilt, but it seems to me that christianity iss as well.Actually, ham or H2H..........if youre reading this.what do you think on the guilt thing?
