I was thinking about this last night. I do my best thinking while I am asleep. Years ago I worked for a drug store and a couple of retail stores. Back then sales like this were a big deal! Most of the items in the sale ad were ordered 6 months in advance. As a result of this I remember getting gobbs ofstuff that I knew we would NEVER sell. We used to have Hoyle cards on sale every 3 months or so. They would send a case of each type of card. For the regular poker type playing cards I could never order them any other time of the year and we still had too many but we could live with it. But they had to also send us a case of pinochle cards too? I don't think our store stold 5 decks in a whole year and they kept sending us 40 every 3 months! Now most stores utilize computers to do just in time ordering for the stores. The good news for the stores is that they don't have people tripping over the 400 decks of pinochle cards in the store room. The bad news is that when they have a kickin sale and lots of people want to buy it they still are only going to get the 6 of something that they would normally sell in a week unpromoted at reg price. Of course it is more sensational to say there are lots of crazy people preparing for the zombie apocalypse by buying hundreds of bottles of mustard but I think the not ordering enough to meet expected demand during a big sale is more likely the real problem. Just my 2 cents. I'll shut up now. beachbum: That MIGHT be the case at CVS (I know for a fact that it is at WAGs), but I'm pretty sure that in much of what I have encountered, it is couponers buying in bulk. I went into Safeway for the free POM juice at 10:30 in the morning. There was none on the shelf, so I went up to customer service for a rain check. The gal wrote the rain check and then decided to call the produce guy to make sure they were out before she gave it to me because I asked for (10). The produce guy told her that that he did indeed have some. YEAH!! I went back to the produce department and he came out and apologized and said that they didn't have any after all. He was surprised because they had received (8) cases (64 bottles) in their early morning shipment, and they were all gone. I knew why. When I went to Target for the free IAMS, I was able to find (9) bags on the shelf. When I purchased them, the checker told me that someone had purchased 2 carts filled with them the previous day. Again, I knew why. In the above cases, it wasn't that the products were not ordered or received by the stores; it was a case of the store being wiped out as soon as the product hit the shelves. Also, on my coupon roundup I used to get 10-20 sets of inserts pretty regularly from two different ma/pa owned liquor stores. Now, I feel lucky if I get half a dozen. There's obviously someone or a few someones in my area who have jumped on the couponing bandwagon. On the one hand, I say, "Good for them"; on the other hand, I'm bummed because getting product has become extremely difficult. There is only one of each store in my area, so it's not like I can drive another mile and find another store. I've just accepted the fact that this is going to be the way it is for a while. If it's something I really need, I'll go out of my way to get it; if not, like I said, I'll let everyone else squabble over what's on the shelf.

I was able to get several inserts, but to be able to get overage on this scale at the commissary is super exciting for me, as this coupon has no limit of 4 on it. Thanks!

20% off frozen foods this week at Sprouts, but still nothing much that looked price-worthy. I'll take a look around for some coupons. They have a clearance cart now and this week I found two jars of natural, organic peanut butter for half price! It's still a lot for PB but it makes DH happy and even the regular peanut butter seems to be $2-$2.50 these days. I bought a few odds and ends but these are my bigger scores today.
2 Santa Cruz organic, natural peanut butter $3 (reg. $6) clearance, saved 50% 1 3-pack organic romaine 99 cents (reg $3) sale price, saved 66% 1 big tub Earthbound Farms organic spinach FREE with coupon from MFR (reg. $4.99), saved 100% Store-made chicken sausage w/parm cheese $1.99/lb. (reg. $2.99/lb.) sale price, saved 33% Wild-caught, USA haddock $3.99/lb. (reg. wild U.S. white fish $7.99/lb) sale price, saved 50%
Saved about $18 on natural and organic foods.

I pricematched cereal at Walmart yesterday and got 10 boxes for $10.00 after using coupons. I sent in for the $10.00 Kelloggs rebate, so free cereal. My question is, has anyone ever frozen cereal? I have a couple of boxes I'd like to freeze.

I have a couple of boxes I'd like to freeze. Freezing cereal would be like freezing bread. For the short term it would be okay. But most cereals have a pretty decent shelf life. I probably wouldn't do it because it would probably taste stale and no one in my house would eat it. Then again in my house that would last about a week so I don't have to worry about this though.

How is that possible when the P&G q's clearly state only 4 per transaction? Did they let the person do transaction after transaction? My Target is SO strict with q's now. They match each one with the product. I usually just place them on top of the product to speed things up. 973beachbum wrote:Freezing cereal would be like freezing bread. Sounds like my house! The boxes keep getting smaller, too! If it's not being eaten here, it's being "shopped" by DD's boyfriend. He's a poor grad student so it's all good. Sometimes I think I have too much cereal "in stock" (right now @ 9 boxes) but then it disappears from the shelves and I hate paying those high prices! I have two more $4 Kellogg's q's so I think I'm going to stock up on Raisin Bran at Safeway this week: $1.99 w/in ad q, so $1 box after my $4/4 q.

But, I will confess that I was eating a box of raisin bran that had an expiration date of 2 years ago. LOL. Tasted fresh. Finished that one. And got brand new ones recently. So, honestly, I would be surprised if you really need to freeze it. Just keeping it in a nice dry area will probably do just fine.

Leanna: Two of the cereals I bought was Crispix and I won't have to freeze it. The expiration is good for over year. I just have to hide it and remember where I hid it till the holidays. I have enough of the other varieties the guys can have for breakfast and I don't need to worry about those going bad because they'll eat them before they do.

They match each one with the product. I usually just place them on top of the product to speed things up. Different Targets are different. I haven't noticed any difference in the way that they handle coupons at my Target, in general; but there have been differences from one cashier to another. When DS's GF bought (8) bags of IAMS for me on the day the Qs expired, the cashier made her buy them one at a time. I'm sure other cashiers are not even aware of the quantity restriction since they don't beep on coupon #5 (I know from experience after having forgotten about the restriction shortly after they first started printing it on their coupons). The point is that in MY area, I have seen evidence that stock is being depleted and coincidentally it seems to be only on the items where a sale + coupon or sale + coupon and reward equal a freebie. It has to be other couponers scooping up the stock.

For those interested in the free zyrtec, I found some new Allergy Guide booklets at Rite Aid yesterday with $3 coupons. The only thing they restrict are the 3-ct. trial size.

Hey guys! I have a CVS/P&G question. I need $16.02 to finish the $50 for my $15 P&G Beauty rebate. I'm holding $8 EBs and have a $4/$20 coupon. This is my plan: 1 Olay Bodywash - $6.99 - $2 P&G coupon (3/4) = $4.99 + $2 EB 3 Olay cleansers - $11.97 - $3/2 coupon - 1 free body wash coupon = $8.97 1 Olay Body wash = $6.99 (free after coupon) My question is - since I have a coupon to make the second body wash free, does it get me over $20? Will the above transaction work? If so, it should cost $1.96 + tax, correct? I'm always confused on what "counts" toward a certain amount.

Mid, The rebate only counts the cost of the items on your receipt. The coupon will take the price off afterwards, so you should be good. I did a similar transaction today - Breakdown as follows: Olay cleansing clothes - 2* 3.99 - 3$/2 MQ from 2/12 RP Olay Bodywash - 2* 6.99 - 2*6.99 MQ from 3/4 PG - 4/20 -1$ off CRT adjusted to 0.98 Get back 2 ECB for the BW and use the receipt for 22$ towards the rebate. You have $25.96 here that will count towards your rebate. The coupons wont change that. I have had good luck with P&G rebates personally. I have not done gobs of rebates but they are one of the few that I have done for a while and they have always honored it from the receipt price no problem. I think my last one with them came back in less than a month also. HTH

Just a reminder... It's Starkist Tuna Pouch Friday. Like them on Facebook and get a $.50 coupon. I'm pretty sure someone posted it here last week and that's how I found it. This makes them pretty reasonable at Walmart and I like to put them in my work locker.

[/b] Same problem here with Target products on sale and the problem is exacerbated because it's the only retailer like it in my area--it's always busy. But they must also be getting more couponers because of their uber vigilance of late. Question:Has anyone heard from Jennysmom lately (aka JMO)?

Thanks Saveinla and Beachbum for the responses I've done one P&G rebate before and I was pretty happy with it, it came much more quickly than most of my other rebates. Hopefully this one will as well!

I don't know if you knew that, but if you are shopping in HD and find the same product somewhere else but cheaper, HD not only will match the lower price, but will give you 10% discount on top of that. Lena Thanks, Lena! I didn't know that!

Thanks for the Starkist link. I have such a hard time with Facebook. Please do post it again next week.
Thanks also for the Jill Cataldo link. I'm so glad she's doing something about it. I just hope the people who run the show will do something about it now. I feel bad for the store because they're not going to get their $12,000 in coupons back.
