Update 6 NSD!
Thankfully I've been kept pretty busy with work lately so no trips out. Also, I made a fantastic recipe from Pinterest that was free since I had all the ingredients (stovetop stuffing, chicken, bacon, broccoli and a few spices).
Today I did get out to drop off my water and electric/gas bills. I'm heading out in a few minutes for the gym since I need to work out some of the nervous energy I've got.
Tonight was fun though, as I worked on the projects I had lingering for a few clients I helped Blue's brother with one of his projects. Cute kid. We only devolved into one argument about who was the bigger nerd. Ended in a draw so we both lose lol.
Hope all are keeping up with the no spending or at least mindful spending this month. We're barely a week in so it's not too late to look back at your receipts and tally up!

Mitten - walking won't hurt your shoulder, right? that's always a good place to start. And I'm glad you're thinking of finding help. It's okay to ask for help!
Angel - glad the puppy is doing well!
Honey - sounds like you're making some great progress in some areas of your personal life. Purging the closet is always so nice! Still sending job juju your way!
So, Blue_wagon had his review today (had to go into the office, poor baby lol). He apparently was the top-rated tech. consultant in the entire company this year! I'm so proud of him! (also enjoying the raise and bonus, which will help us get into a better financial position for babymaking and raising). I asked him what we should do with said bonus - send to debt or savings - and he replied "It'll all be going to diapers and formula anyways" lol. He's worked SOOOOO hard this year and I'm so glad they recognized that, both verbally and in his paycheck. I'm also going to encourage him to open a Roth 401k and put some of the raise in there. Can't forget our long-term goals!

Honey: So glad to hear from you! And no I did not enter the decision to let the house go lightly at all. I thought about it for a year before I acted on it.
Red: Walking will not hurt it but all the paths are icy out so I am leary of going. Plus if I walk I feel like I should take the dog and that does hurt my shoulder. Also I have DD with me ALL the time and she can't keep up. Actually I am going to start doing the Wii again. The running and hulu hoop work well. It seems like the eliptical will agravate it. I am also going to check into a health club that seems affordable and has childcare. Then DD has a place to go and I can get into shape. Again need to check into it. If I go 12 times a month my insurance will give me $20 a month to go and DF's employer will give $300 a year for health clubs with no stipulations.
Angel: So glad Big Yellow is home doing well and it was less expensive then you thought it was going to be!
Start: Why don't you pay those bills online or have your bank send those checks? I don't think I pay any bills by mail anymore. The one or two I would I have my bank send the checks out, saves me money and less hassle!
Had a nasty dream this morning, one that is hard to shake it was a dream. Now I need to NOT be mad at DF since it DIDN'T happen. Don't have those often but YUCK!
Tonight I have my Autism support group meeting, we are going to a Mexican restaurant and a gal that moved to Florida is in town! Before that will take the dog to training and DS#1 to Karate.

Still at 1 NSD, yesterday was a CSD so I am pleased with that because I only bought groceries and was robbed at the gas pump!
I wrote a blog post today about friendships and now my kids are already out of school and I need to make a trip to Target. Crossing my fingers I only get out of there with what I need (I'm planning a baby shower for my sister and my DD needs supplies for a school project).
MK/Honey: Yea, the leg is a big bummer but I am trying to stay positive.
Moneysquirrel: No worries about me running too soon. I am determined to get back 100% healed. I am dedicated to at least 6 weeks in this contraption and then will go from there.

azmom- We need to get ourselves together with these leg injuries! I sooo want to do a meet up and all of us do a charity walk/run or something sometime. I am glad to hear that those who have ill children of the 2 or 4 legged variety seem to be getting better- I am sending lots of good juju/ prayers/etc. TBear/ZBear lost their second great-grandmother in less than 6 months and their 4th great-grandparent in 3 years yesterday. They left this morning. I was proud of DB this morning. Ex-SILs boyfriend called DB to let him know and he also let him know that SIL was not handling it very well. SO, C (SIL's boyfriend), DB, and SIL all came over and showed a unified front of support for the girls. On the other hand about 3am I woke up with a 10yr old trying to choke me with my comforter because she had a dream that I was going to die because I'm bipolar. She slept just fine after I told her the following: "I have no intention of going anywhere- God put me on this Earth to irritate people and I'm nowhere near done yet." If only adults were so easy to please.

Yesterday was an NS. Today was a spend. I never go out for lunch, but met a friend today and a salad and half a sandwich was over $10 OMG! It was good, but not that good. Anyway mini-D seems to be about the same as yesterday. He is really whiny and cranky first thing in the AM and then gets better as the day goes on. Hmmm.... that may be an inherited trait. Anyway just a quick drive by to hi! Honey - Good to see you. Sorry the job search hasn't been fruitful yet.

update; 6 NSD, 1 EOD. GF and I went shopping today and I bought her lunch. We go shopping about once a month and she usually pays but, since I got my income tax back, I decided to pay. She has the "millions" but I feel like a leech everytime we go out and she pays. This is the first time since last year that I paid. She says she doesn't mind so I let her. She always grabs for the check and I don't say anything. I think she might use it for a tax write off since they own their own business.

today makes one of my longest streaks ever 7 NSD and no need to shop! Actually I'll make money today because I returned a defective charger to Amazon for credit. They paid for the shipping and I'll get $18 back. I won't have a travel charger but oh well.

QOTW: Are most of your friends and family in worse financial situations then yourself, better or the same? Do you discuss money with them? If you have kids how are you educating them on money?
COTW: Learn something new about money, ask a friend or read a book, website, blog something about getting out of debt or investing.

AOTW: I have the odd thing where my sister's family makes WAY more then we make a year. I think she believes that we live paycheck to paycheck since that is what they were doing up until a year ago. The reality is no where near that. I have been able to put money away into savings most years and have a healthy emergency fund, retirement funds and investment portfolio. Financial insecurity is my biggest fear since both my grandmothers lived of social security and had nothing. All our parents are set and our friends seem to be doing okay but I know things are tight, or at least they are being frugal due to circumstances.
Now I will have to work on the COTW lol....

update 3NS/2CS
Morning all -- It is supposed to be 72 degrees here today; the 50s tomorrow and 40s on Sat. I hope to get outside and walk today. Today is my scheduled massage at lunch, so I don't know if I can fit it in today. The constantly changing weather in March. I did do Pilates this am when I woke up very early.
AOTW: Most people I know are in worse financial shape than I; mainly b/c of their choices. Now, I do have one friend of whom I'm particularly proud. She was laid off a few years ago, got a job at a lower salary and has still managed to stay on course with her financial plans. Now, my parents and a friend's parents are role models. Both sets are retired and before my friend's father's untimely death, both are/were living fabulous retirement lives as far as I'm concerned. It's funny, I was having a financial discussion about retirement with my dad on Tuesday. He is the one I talk to about finances.
COTW: I need to get the nerve to select and buy a good mutual fund for my Roth IRA. I am scared to jump back in b/c I haven't done so well with my Roth choices in the past and I'd like that to change going forward. The market has done so well this year, that I hope I haven't missed my window to get into a good fund.
start: Yeah on 7NSD! honey: good to hear from you. Sorry a new job hasn't panned out yet, but it will. 3cats: I think I want to take a page out of your book and buy gift cards the next quarter. Chase has 5% cash back on grocery purchases next quarter and from what I read on msg boards, gift cards count. Yeah. Angel: Yeah the Big Yellow is on the mend. red: Congrats on Blue having a fab year! MK: how was dinner last night?

AOTW: I know people better and worse off. Much depends on their chosen industries, layoffs, and choices made. I know we should be doing better with what we make, as far as debt payoff is concerned, and that's something we're both working on...
COTW: I need to look into opening a Roth IRA for Blue_wagon for when his raise kicks in. I already adjusted our budget a bit to give us a bit more wiggle room in household expenses (we always need something from home depot for our various house projects, so now there's room for that).
I continue to find it difficult to focus on both losing weight and paying off debt. I try at both and fail at both, whereas when I am doing one or the other I see great progress. Unfortunately, both are needed. Not sure how to handle that... I do know I am eating WAY more fruits and veggies and making healthier choices at lunch (bring in a wrap instead of hitting up McD's). I am working out more. And I have gained 7 pounds this year. As far as debt, we continue to learn about the costs of our house and our cars, and I am confident one of these years we will be adequately prepared. I called ahead to find out how much my 5k mile checkup will be, which I wish we'd done for Blue's CR-V. I'm learning... but still treading water.

QOTW- I have a lot of people in my family who are worse off financially- but it is their own fault. Supporting deadbeat adult kids, overextending themselves, burning the plastic up- that sort of thing. My cousin JL moved to the west coast to get away from her family's bad financial habits. My cousin M is also good with money. I finally got tired of cleaning up everyone's messes. My mother makes almost 3 times what I do (she made more than that before retiring) and never has any money- partly because she can't say no. I am already preparing myself for the possibility that I may have to make the decision to split company with her.
COTW- I have already started re-reading Personal Finance for Dummies, I am checking with some lenders about possibly buying a home, and I follow startsmarts business blogs. ;D For the newbies- even if you don't own a business- you should check out her blog- it applies to everyday life too. And I am looking into going back to work once the estate is settled regardless of how close I am to finished with my MT and how I am doing with my CH business. The doctors have said we will talk about it AFTER the estate is settled. I need to do something because DM is doing nothing and it is starting to grate on my nerves.
red- I am having trouble also right now on the weight loss front. I had great plans before DGM died of knocking the few debts I have out so quickly and now I have this huge pink elephant sitting in my living room. We will ge through this.

I had another no-spend day yesterday, so I'm up to 2NSD/31 days. Hoping today will be the same. After some volunteer work this morning, Im just helping some friends with their taxes in the afternoon. It's so wrong that I enjoy doing taxes!

Today was a CSD as I made a trip out to Costco this morning. Dog food, toilet paper, all essentials and under $60! I also have lunch at the house with my friend L as we discussed business and everything else for 3 hours. I love this time each week! We also do a book exchange Not planning on going out again today so I should be at 7 NSD, 1 CSD if anyone is keeping track.

FOUND MONEY!
I was finishing some last minute cleaning at DGMs when I found a tin with cash in it. First I thought it was just a couple dollars. Then realized it had $49 in it! DM agreed to put it away and not spend it! Victory!
And DB left a whole bunch of change on the floor that I had to pick up that he is not getting back. Like $5 worth.
Have to go back and finish in the morning because even though there wasn't much of my stuff or DMs stuff left- DB left such a mess it wasn't funny.

Update: 5 NS Days and 3 CS Days
Hope all are doing well. Beginning to catch up on my sleep but hope that this is an uneventful weekend so that paperwork will be caught up with as well as housework and sleep.
AOTW: I think on the whole my family members are doing ok. I don't do a lot of talking to my friends about finances. I do try to add some financial education into my lessons especially while the students are learning to use excel.
COTW: I do read some articles online but my time is limited so I don't do as much as I should.

Well, one more NSD today. I stopped for frozen yogurt, but I had just helped some friends file their taxes, so they treated me. Win-win! So, 3 NSD/31 days As for the QOTW, most of my family and friends are more or less in similar financial situations as me, I think, although we don't discuss money much at all. I think I'm generally a bit more money savvy than most, but that's mostly the result of hanging around in places like this.

QOTW-We are doing better financially than most of our family. We both come from families of low wage earners. My side also has the habit of making absolutely horrible financial decisions. My oldest brother has filed bankruptcy twice. I have tried discussing money with them before, sent them Dave Ramsey tapes, but usually I am just told that things are easier for me because I married a rich man and I forgot what it was like to be poor...uhm....ok! No I haven't forgotten about the times it was so cold in our house the fish tank would ice up. No I haven't forgotten how we didn't have money for to fill the propane and my dad would bring this big machine home from the garage that would blow stinky heat in our house. It is because I haven't forgotten that stuff that I have tried to improve my financial well being. I don't want my kids to ever go without heat.
Our friends are about the same as us. I don't usually talk money with them. I do talk money with my BFF. We have similar goals.

I didn't have good role models financially. Both my parents worked for the city and had pensions. They would purchase a new car every 5 years and take a loan out on it. They also had credit card debt although it wasn't a huge amount. Plus they never talked about money to my Sister and I. I figured it out myself. I knew I didn't want to live like my grandmothers. (I never had any grandfathers) My one grandmother lived on social security, didn't drive, rented an apartment. She saved when she wanted new furniture. While she didn't have any debt she also lived on peanuts but she didn't want anything either. My other grandmother made a lot of money and threw it away. I think she ended up declaring bankruptcy 2 or 3 times worked until she no longer could. While she did buy her house the IRS should have had a lien against it but didn't and my dad took title of it, sold it and then purchased a place for her to live in.
After an auspicious start to my morning it got better. DS#2 decided when he woke up he didn't want to potty in his diaper, so he moved it to the side and peed all over the floor in his closet (where he chooses to sleep) I am very glad to have vinyl flooring in his room but man the child has quite the bladder! DS#2's staff was scheduled to come over this morning and take care of him and DD since I had my Physical Therapy appt. Went there and everything I thought I shouldn't be doing was correct. So for 6 weeks I cannot do push ups, planks, elliptical, run, probably walk since I can't take the dog and anything else that hurts my shoulder. But I do have 6 strengthening exercises to do to build up the muscles around the one that is damaged. The gal said I had great posture in the exercises and was impressed. Apparently all the working out I have done over the years showed up there lol. I can tell my left arm is weaker in some of the exercises since I have been babying it for quite a while.
Then I went and got my hair cut (It's only been close to a year!) and a massage. Oh it felt wonderful! The gal knew I was going to go for a haircut so she knew I would be gone for awhile. I may have to do that more often where I have her watch both kids and take some time to myself. If my mom is watching the kids and I want to take some time for myself after doing an errand she gets nasty, but when I am paying someone that will be easier.
sapphire: Food was great on Weds. Margaritas even better ;D. It was great to chat with the ladies and catch up with the gal that moved to Florida.

QOTW: My parents are retired and with their Social Security and my father's two pensions, along with the occasional consulting work he does they are doing okay. I do discuss money with the and they are sending me some recommendations for investments they have found profitable. My parent's have have told me that they are proud of how I handle my finances and for taking steps now to prepare an estate plan.
My brother and his wife are now both working, but they have two children and live in a high COL area. I have not had many in depth conversations with them about money except as it relates to their daughters. My oldest niece is the Grasshopper and my youngest niece is the Ant. The older one seems to spend whatever cash comes to hand - while the other one prefers to squirrel hers away. So much so that last summer as the family was on it's way to a flea market - she came home with all the cash she had left with. Said she had not seen anything she wanted to spend money on. When my brother inquired just how much cash she had - she went into her room, closed the door and counted it. Boy were they surprised when she reported she had $175 in cash1 They took her to the bank to open an account the next day they could.
I do have one friend that I have talked about before - R. She and her husband (T) make more than twice what I do, no children and they rent. Yet it seems they also carry rather high credit card balances and she leases a new car each 3 years. She also has a "hobby" of purchasing estate and other fine jewels. It's hard for me to relate to her when she says casually she purchased another piece for "only" $5,000.
I have tried talking to her in the past about buying a house and keeping a car longer - but it doesn't seem to be something they are interested in. She did tell me a couple of weeks ago that she will be getting the opportunity to cash out some stock options in the Fall - $80,000. She mentioned the word "house" for the first time as well. there are times I find it hard to relate to her and T because of the disparity about our views on money.
COTW: I have already done this - having met with several financial advisers and chosen one. I am in the process of getting my funds from various old 401(k)s and pension funds to consolidate the money into this one account.

1 NSD..still...**sigh**
On the plus side I made pancakes from scratch for the very first time this morning. On the downside I am officially sick!
It's Spring Break so I think my plan is to make a plan and take cash out and whatever I spend outside of that cash will become a NSD because I want to do a few things with the kids that require a spending some cash. Nothing crazy just a few things to get us out of the house and enjoying this beautiful weather before its too hot to even open the door!
Hope you are all doing well

Update 8 NSD, 2 CSD
Friday was a CSD as I paid for my chiropractic visit but nothing else.
And today I fully expected to spend money today but nope! I took my camera out to the capitol to shoot and parked by a friend's apartment so no parking fees. Instead of getting lunch we ended up tasting some tamales that filled me up. And, luckily, when we went to buy tamales they had sold out of the ones I wanted so we got the last sames ones free!
It was tough to head straight home for dinner but I had to remember that I have the fixings for soup, burritos, tacos... plenty of food!
I will need gas in the car before I go out again but that's a planned spend.

update: $300 IN SAVINGS , 1/31 NEO, 10 NSD.I changed my goals because I only listed 2-3 NEO when I really wanted 27-28 NEO. My mortgage account had over $150 in it so I transferred $100 to savings. That account is only for mortgage payments. Maybe by June I will have enough in there to make an extra payment which will help with the balloon payment coming up in 3-4 years. The other $200 came from income tax refund. I checked with the gas station about their gift cards and I don't have to use them in any given time and they don't charge any interest. I am going to get one for December for $100. I haven't been getting any GC from any of the other stores either because I haven't been planning for it but, with income tax refund, I will get $100 from each of the stores that I did last year.

Update: 7 NS Days and 3 CS Days The last two days have been NS days but I have already spent today -- CVS had several items on sale that I needed or will in the near future. It could have been a CS trip if I didn't buy the few items that I didn't need at all. Dang gummie bears were there.
The oak tree pollen is everywhere and my sinus problems are going into overtime. I have been on allergy pills for over a week with no end in sight. Honey -- Thinking of you as you continue your search.
Start -- The pink flower in your photo (on your blog) looks like one of the Japanese magnolia tree blooms we have this time of year. Once the flowers drop it is just a pretty tree.
3cats - so proud of your achievements.

Very relaxing day so far and productive as well. I've: Cleaned off the kitchen counters Scrubbed the sink and cleared the drains Caught up on dishes Put up 6 cans of chicken stock Made up my bed for once Swept and cleaned one bathroom
Still to do: Clean and put away the crockpot Put away all clean dishes Put away all clean clothes Mow the lawn if it's dry enough Sweep and clean second bathroom Sweep hallway
Of course this means I'll need another movie series to watch.... I did most of my work this weekend while watching the original star wars trilogy on VHS. It helps the time pass!
Oh! And I finalized plans for the working vacation with my team in Arizona. I'm little kid giddy here about spending 10 days in Sedona with blue eyes! We've met in person before but this has been something we've talked about for awhile! So giddy. Can't. Stop. Grinning.
Gtg cookies need to be removed from the oven!

Glad to see everyone is doing well.
Today was a spend, I mentioned to DH that more under cabinet lighting in the kitchen would be nice and before I knew it he was leaving for Home Depot. With him either it gets done immediately or in a year. They look really nice. Plus I had a BOGO for Yankee Candle that expired today,so picked up some spring scents. I'll answer QOTW tomorrow, I'm on my phone now and typing is a pain.
