I bought a Norelco electric shaver for shave day. The item is ~ 5 inches in a tough plastic container that I need a stong knife to cut it open and it's packaged in an 18 inch cardboard box!!!
Some this packaging may be an attempt to prevent shoplifting.
Product Packaging Is Too Much And Too Hard to Open!!!!
[And leaves a large carbon footprint]

ok but how many norelco electric shavers do you buy in a lifetime. In the big picture there are many things that are worse than this.

It's not just the Norelco. All my groceries have too much packaging!!! I take my garbage for salvage pick up once per week and it's 1 dumpster full. Too much packaging

Yes there are worse things than this but I feel bad that the plastic I'm throwing out is going to be in a landfill for what like 100 yrs and each week I'm dumping 50+lbs into landfills...and it's the packaging fault!!!

Ummm....I have 1-3 bags of "garbage" a week - the rest (about 5-10 bags) goes into recycling. Just recycle and you're reducing your carbon footprint.
(note: This is only if you're really that worried about it - my city offers recycling pick up at my curb, so it's less stress for me to recycle everything possible).

I'm talking about the TOTAL amount [regular garbage plus recycling].
As 1 person I would like to have 1 small plastic bag TOTAL[garbage+recycle] per week as that seems ideal to me.

Then I'd have to say you need to buy/consume less stuff if you want to hit that goal.
Seriously. I have 6 people in my household with 2 dogs and it sounds like you produce way more garbage than we do.

Most of it is that... I eat a lot of food and drink bottled water- 750ml x 6 per day.

I totally agree that the amount of stuff required to package products is ridiculous. I just recycle everything possible.
We have a recycling bin and a garbage bin. We could EASILY get by with pickup every other week (saving time and money in wages and resources) but unfortunately this is not the case for the majority of people.

My other rant is that you have to use a knife to open up the heavy duty plastic packaging. I can't even get into my stuff!!

I think I would reevaluate what I was using if I were dumping that much garbage and recycling a week. There are 2 of us in the house and we do maybe a kitty litter container of recycling a week and at most a bin of garbage a month. We don't drink bottled water, the tap is fine or use a water filter pitcher. We cook at home for breakfast and diner most days. First look at what you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.

We have the same situation. Just for my razors with a few in the packaging is enough to fill a small garbage can. Then add the plastic on my paper towels and toilet paper. It's ridiculous! But that's all I can think of right now.

I resorted to putting 'garbage' into other empty containers to try to decreased the volume. The trash compactor I have is not strong enough to really compress anything. I've even thought about driving over the stuff with my car!!! [to compress it for less volume]

I take my garbage for salvage pick up once per week and it's 1 dumpster full. Holy crap. I have a family of three, one in disposable diapers and two dogs and we only produce about 2 gallon trash cans full of waste per week. But we take out the garbage much more frequently now because of stinky diapers.

I divide my trash into 3 containers... 1) burnable paper and cardboard etc. 2) plastic. 3) non-burnable. The burnable stuff gets burned in the fire pit. The plastic gets burned in a small hole on one side of the fire pit ( 5 bags melt down to about a 10 inch by 1 inch thick piece of plastic. The cooled plastic pie is put in with the approximately 1 Wal-mart bag sized non-burnables and dropped of in the receptacle by the door on the next trip to Wal-mart. What's the problem? Live in an area where there's more rules than garbage?

I live in an area where I can burn stuff. I'll get a fire pit. I was told that the bottoms of firepits can get so hot as to start a fire or ruin patio 'flooring'. My subdivision has no problems with garbage as long as it's in the dumpster...I just need to get the volume size down...I think I could do a weekly burning of garbage each week. Can glass be burned? I have 42 bottles+ per week.

You drink six bottles of water every day and you're worried about your carbon footprint? Are you effing kidding? Get a filter and a reusable aluminum bottle. That'll cut 42 water bottles out of your weekly trash. Then you can start eating real food, which should cut down on the packaging you throw out. Pretty much all food that comes in a bag sealed in another bag or box is processed crap that you shouldn't be eating anyway. Real food, like produce, isn't packaged. Meat is, but you'd have to be eating half a cow a week to fill a dumpster with food packaging.

I have well water and a septic tank. And bottled water seems the purest to me.
I eat 1+lbs of vegetables per day and ~2-3 lbs of protein[meat]per day.

You know that the vast majority of bottled water sold in the US is just tap water that's run through a filter and has a little flavoring added right? What brand do you buy?

Pelligrino MINERAL water
I like it because it's bubbly and has trace minerals.
If anything I should INCREASE my vegetable intake.. ummm... constipation.

Well eating 2-3 pounds of meat per day would do that to a person.

I just pile high and light. I don't know how big of a hassle it would be to use one of those store bought fire pits.

All water has trace minerals in it. And the water you drink everyday comes from a lake halfway around the world. It has to be shipped across an ocean, trucked to your location, where you go through 6 a day, and then chuck the bottles out. All the while whining about your carbon footprint. Again I ask, are you effing serious? If anything I should INCREASE my vegetable intake.. You're already eating 3-4 lbs of food a day. You don't need to increase anything. How many calories is that anyway? I mean, I'm a skinny freak who can eat quite a bit without putting on weight, but damn woman, there has to be a line somewhere.
