Say this title of this post is starting to pay off! Nothing like 30,000 layofss to the banking sector while the bank reports major profit hey. And it looks like the market players are starting to accept reality, well most of them as PPT is being summoned to get some 'cake' (I know some love that word on the board as what resonable type person would use such a word ) out and throwing more casino chips in to keep SUPER MILKER up and running.

Still lower than fall of 2009. If your small business is struggling look in the mirror.

It must have been the end of the world 17 years ago then. If we made it back 17 years ago we will do it again.
These recessions shake out all the riff raff. The strong survive and prosper and then we do it all over again.

17 years ago the highest rate was not even 12.5%. We are at the worst level in over 17 years. Actually longer. Since the recession of 1981, 30yrs ago.

So fellow Americans who had a company and were forced out of business are the riff raff?
And the TARP, TALF, Detroit Auto bailouts, Stimulus I, Stimulus II, cash for clunkers and other programs to save the economy are over.
Which means, according to you, without all that artificial stimulus we are in a slow recovery?
Feel better now?

Yes we are still in a slow recovery and yes the weakest companies are the ones that go bankrupt first.

And this employment news just in this morning. Planned firings climbed 59 percent from July 2010 to 66,414, according to figures released today by Chicago-based Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. Job-cut announcements were led by the pharmaceutical industry, which included drugmaker Merck & Co.’s plans to eliminate as many as 13,000 jobs www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-08-03/announced-u-s-job-cuts-jumped-59-in-july.html

The strong survive. Thats the American way. If you have a good education and if you didnt buy a house you could not afford you will be fine.
Sounds like your business isnt doing too good.

Re: Unemployment at a 27 year high. « Reply #2 Today at 6:37am »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I pay higher than most of my competitor's, but most of those Midwest transplants coming to Texas looking for jobs are listing previous wages of $20.00 or more an hour. We pay $12 to $15 entry level plus full benefits. In the past 2 years most kept on looking for higher pay.
This summer we have had at least triple the number of applicants over the last 2 years, and we are not advertising, nor do we have any openings. However the expected pay rate has gone from "I used to make over $20.00/hr" to "I will take whatever you offer" for most of them. We still take applications just in case we have unexpected turnover.

ADP reports 114,000 new jobs created in July not bad. That along with the weekly claims dropping below 400,000 suggests hiring is picking up again.

Yes this is a recovery.
It has been said since 2009 that it will be a sloooooooow recovery. That is what we are seeing. Consumers continue to de-leverage.

Well nothing is at a high, except for DEBT. As far as barbecued numbers on the old employment and the lack of undertsanding pushing nonsense is a trend all over. So while the melt continues enjoy some more fudging of the numbers.

I like the way they massage the numbers for the masses. 398,000 new claims 2 weeks ago 400,000 new claims 1 week ago GASP! claims went up! White house adviser to POTUS. "We can fix this, adjust the 2 week number up to 401,000" 401,000 adjusted new claims 2 weeks ago 400,000 new claims 1 week ago Now they went down, everybody happy now ;D

No. We don't need a link SBO. We've been discussing the revisions for many months now. There was one month without a revision, but I attribute that to the 'broken watch is right twice a day' concept.
